    Wanted to give some ideas on the FZ1 upgrades I did in case you're looking to add some of your own ugrades. The parts I use are specific to my bike (GoPro's and Throttle Lock are universal). If you have the same bike as mine it'll fit yours, but these brands also have options for other makes and models if you do the research. I hope this helps you with some of your own upgrade ideas! Please leave a comment and be sure to subscribe! I recommend these products.

    A good mod to do is 16/46 sprocket changes........17/45 is standard.....wakes the bike up nicely lower down in the rev range where the bike needs it

      @bgjames111 excellent! It's not that bad as long as you make a clean tape line, go slow with a fine tooth saw blade (die grinder with cutting wheels melts and chatters a lot) and then stage your sanding starting at like 180-210 grit and jumping up 500-1k in grit til you get to like 2,500 grit wet sanding. It'll look like a glass edge once you throw some polishing compound on the edge and wipe it clean.

    Thought I would come to let you know in case you already dont. I just found out myself.
    Various years (supposedly up to ‘14)
    Of Fz1s and R1s had stator rotor problems where the magnets come off and potentially destroy the engine.
    Yamaha now updated the rotor assembly but never issued a recall.
    Shame on them.
    So now Ill be changing mine.
    It usually happens from 15k miles and up.
    I only have 4200 miles on my 06 thank goodness.

      @@myname9252 I just started last year. Got a ton of traction with a motorcycle crash video I filmed and edited then TH-cam put an age restriction on it. I only have 300 subs, 148k views, no telling how many hours watched. I wanted to get to monetize but it's going to take forever and it's been too hot out to do any new videos! Lol. I got a Yamaha TTR125 for my son when he turned 10 6vyears ago. Doesn't ride it a whole year go out and kick starts on the 1st kick! This is my 1st Yamaha. Had a 1981 CB900F before this for about 6 years. I debated between the FZ1, Suzuki Bandit, a Kawasaki ZRX11 or 1200, and a Honda Hornet. Actually wanted the Hornet the most but have ridden both Bandit and ZRX a good bit too. I like the naked bikes. In the end in comparing 1 to another the FZ1 won, then just waited for the right deal, which was a fluke I even found it. Check out my channel for the motorcycle crash video.

      Totally agree about the fatty tire out back. My 1981 CB900F had such a skinny tire but I rebuilt the brake caliper swing-arm so I could fit a tire an inch wider in the back and it was still considered a skinny tire compared to the FZ1 beefcake! Great video. Thank you. Any tips on installing the Motodynamic tail light and front lights. Those parts just arrived for my FZ1 2009....including a tail tidy fender eliminator kit.

    • @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN
      @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tail light best tip is don't take the whole tail apart, you only need to drop the bottom of the tail to get into everything. The front lights are very easy the only real difference is how you wire the flush turn signals to always be on and flash when turning on turn signal, or they stay off and only come on when turn signal turned on (the way I have them). Just tie up and tuck the wiring inside the front half cowl when done wiring in the new turn signals. They come with factory wiring connectors, the same as the tail lights. The new license plate light ties right in to the factory license plate wiring as well. The instructions they give you for the tail light and rear turn signal setup I believe says to take the whole tail apart, but a video I found on TH-cam prior to my install had another brand getting installed and that guy didn't tear the whole tail apart. Saves a lot of time. Hope that helps ! It's very plug and play, I don't remember any real hiccups. Sorry I didn't have an installation video for these installs they were all done before I started creating my channel! Thanks for the comment and the question.

    • @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN
      @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN  ปีที่แล้ว

      @anthonyyoung925 there was no problem fitting them into the bars. The same brand, MZS, that makes my adjustable clutch and brake levers also makes a variety of bar end mirrors that would probably work well. I've looked at them in case I ever needed to replace the ones I have because I did notice the brand I have aren't available anymore. Our FZ1 is the best looking year and color and fastest too from what I hear ;) can't beat white with the blacked out tail!

    Hi great video and beautiful bike! So I got the cruise control you shared in the link. I have a 2006 FZ1 and I’m having trouble installing it can you help me out with some pics of how it connects to the bottom of throttle?

    • @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN
      @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @James Sargent once you pull the bar end and grip, slide the cruise control to the throttle housing then open up the throttle housing cover and look for an open area inside that you can run a screw through the cruise control plastic into the throttle housing without the screw running into anything. Just make sure you align the cruise control where it is most comfortable to thumb the control off and on before you install the screw. Your hand placement determines that. Once the screw is installed the cruise control can't swivel around then you slide the plastic washer on and reinstall the grips and bar end just make sure the grips aren't super tight against the plastic washer or it'll cause too much friction and the cruise control won't unlock well. There is an adjustment screw on the cruise control you are gonna need to mess with because that's what sets the tension strong enough to lock the throttle but loose enough to let go when you want to take the cruise off. I don't have any install pictures as mentioned in the video and description I wasn't doing install videos before I started using my TH-cam channel like I am now. Hope that helps and keep in touch if you have more questions!

    • @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN
      @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Richard Botha thanks! Yes you have to pull the grip to slide the throttle lock on. Very easy if you have air, put an air gun tip under the end of the grip and it'll puff up and slid right off. Do the same to put the grip back on!

    how did yo u connect the exup cables? ii cant find any documentation about this. with bike on contact should the flap be open or closed?

    • @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN
      @ShawnMartinNCBIRDMAN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @AlphaMuscle I put mine back on 7 years ago, the cables were on the exhaust and had been removed from the servo. It was easy to tell based on the routing of the cables which cable went to which connector. That's the best I can tell you but there is a exhaust maintenance guide at this link it might help you figure it out better. The valve should be near closed with throttle sitting no pull. The valve opens more as the throttle is rolled to allow more air theough as the rpm's increase. The baffle controls back pressure, increasing ho at lower rpm's. At high rpm's you don't need the back pressure so it opens fully. That's why at about 4,500-5,500 rpm the exhaust sound increases so much more than any other rpm interval. The baffle has fully opened.
