    just received mine, and it is by far the most longest and thick lep beam length and distance ive seen on any lep flahslights out there thats under 1000$

    Nice review! As always, your beamshots are excellent. As much as I'd love to get my hands on one of these big LEPs I can't help but acknowledge that it would be nothing more than a fat laser pointer... Fun, but hardly practical for me.

    Great review. Just like I have been saying on BLF, the LEP is not a flashlight, it's closer to a laser.

      Yeah I’ll rather go with my Mateminco mt90 plus.

      How is LEP "not a flashlight"? LEP is just a type of light source and that's it, just like LED is also a type of light source. I know what you are probably trying to say, it's a highly focused beam without spill at all? You are probably right but look, it's not the LEP to blame (because again, LEP is just a light source), instead it is simply that the design of the optical system is not zoomable! It's like putting an LED into a fixed optical lens system (something like a DEFT X?), would you say the same for DEFT X as well? On top of that, let's not forget that Maxtoch LA60 is actually zoomable! So would you think that LA60 is a "LEP flashlight" now?

    Good review. I now know what Charles Bridgetech has done to his thumb. 😉 I must admit that because I'm not too steady on my pins, that without any spill at all, I'd be base over apex all the time.
    The LEP lights are a fascinating concept. However, I don't really see myself buying one. Also for the cost of these things I might expect a better quality. Anyway mate keep up the good work. 👍

      Haha. Thanks mate.
      I wouldn't personally buy one either (outside of a review) since I no longer hunt, but great beam on it for those who can find a use for it. I'll be selling this off :)

    Everyone seems to pronounce this brand as MaxToch. Strangely in the USA it's Trademarked as Maxtoch, yet here in New Zealand it's registered as Maxtorch. This is why I chose to call it as such, but who knows the correct why to say it....?

      I wish, but that would require buying the other two as those two brands require a higher sub number to get anything for review :)

    At close to 3 million cd, this beast puts just under 3 lux or so on target at 1km. Whatever fraction of that that is reflected back to your eyes is even less. So, not useful at 1km. I need at least 20 lux on target. That means this light would be good for only 390m, but at that range, the diameter of the spot is too small to be useful.

    • @PiercingTheDarkness
      @PiercingTheDarkness  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That doesn't seem right, I was spotting animals at 1km quite happily. My BLF GT at 1 mil cd spots animals at 800m.
      This is my hunting guide which shows the range at which customers have been able to identify an animal. This is also not just eye shine, but the deer antlers and all - www.piercingthedarkness.co.nz/hunting-guide

    • @PiercingTheDarkness
      @PiercingTheDarkness  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mean just over 2 mil cd, right? Not 3. Maybe you mean close to 3km?

    • @mauricecatayan3406
      @mauricecatayan3406 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PiercingTheDarkness You're right. My mistake. Only 2 million cd, which means only 2 lux on target at 1 km, not 3. Even lower.

    • @mauricecatayan3406
      @mauricecatayan3406 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PiercingTheDarkness I'm just going by the standard equation: cd divided by distance in meter squared equals lux. Based on my requirement of 20 lux on target, I back calculated the cd I'd need for a given distance or the max distance at which a particular cd rating will provide 20 lux on target. Since the light is actually only 2 million cd, the effective distance I previously calculated, for my own preference, is even shorter: 320m.

    • @mauricecatayan3406
      @mauricecatayan3406 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PiercingTheDarkness Granted my requirement of 20 lux is quite high, as the recommended brightness for a living room is only 50 lux. Spotting for hunting might require substantially fewer lux, but for me, searching at distance, 20 lux is my requirement.

    Great review, will you be selling LEP's in your store anytime soon?

    • @PiercingTheDarkness
      @PiercingTheDarkness  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, I won't be since there's only a small market for them in NZ. Had a chat with a few guys over on the hunting and shooting forum and many said they'd never buy one. They cost too much anyway and for a small store it could be a bad decision. The Acebeam W30 sells for $459 in NZ. Most would rather pick up my Osram/Convoy L21B with the Osram LEDs for $150 :)

    Did you have to inquire for yours on the website before purchasing? If so, how long before they replied and how long was shipping?
    Thanks

    • @PiercingTheDarkness
      @PiercingTheDarkness  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I emailed them and received a reply maybe a week afterwards that they were happy I review it. Shipping was approx 3 weeks.
      Paid direct via PayPal
      I found their customer service a bit lacking though. I was interested in buying their rifle mount, bulk order, and was ignored when asking how much for 50pcs. Also asked my contact and same thing. Thought that was a bit odd.

      Already sold, sorry. I got rid of it a week after I uploaded this review.
      Definitely won't be reviewing another LEP, not my thing. I'd personally rather a good spotlight.

      1lumen reviewed this model also, their sample measured 2,763m and the W30 measured 2,291m. From that we can see it's quite a lot better. Maxtoch now have the L2KS which is better. 1lumen measured the L2Ks at 3,038m.
