Brooke, I think you have done extremely well managing all you have to do on a farm and having an active family. Unless someone have had a major health issue they would not understand the difficulty in dealing with the illness, medication side effects and the depression and anxiety that comes from not being able to do the things you once did. You handle your life with grace and positivity; I honor you for that. ❤
People have to live it to really understand it!! I know i live with chronic pain n fibromyalgia n pain pills n muscle relaxers aren't always the answer..It's day by day..
I have sarcoidosis, neuroendocrine CA, and diabetes. I so understand what Brooke goes through. It breaks my heart. I hate seeing people who suffer from chronic illnesses.
How small and sad are those who seek to hurt others with their toxic tongues. I 100% agree…let’s all put love and kindness out there and the world will be a much better place!
Please don't let other people upset you. I think you are terrific, you take care of the farm, your family, your animals. You need a break. I wish I had your energy. Happy new year.
Brooke, it hurts my heart that someone was mean to you. I’m so sorry that happened. You and Jason seem like the nicest people in the world. I love all your videos. Yours are my favorite channels. Happy New Year to you all! ❤️
Sorry Brooke, if it looks like we are going to have some serious snow, we do tend to make sure we are prepared. Living in Eastern Oregon, we don't want to go out during a snowstorm if we don't have to. Personally, we enjoy our wintertime. Happy New Year. We love your family and all of the precious animals. I don't believe we have missed a single video since we found your channel a few years ago.
Hi Jason, Brooke and MaryCarl, Happy New Year to your family!! My wish for ya’ll for 2025 is that 2025 is even better for your family than 2024! Elizabeth in Texas
I have cast iron fry pans and a dutch oven from the 60's. I used them over the open fire cooking our meal's while we were "hippies" living in our tepee on land we bot, to start " living off the land". Moving from the big city to the country on our 5 acres! My oh my, those were sure the good ole days !!
Jason and Brooke, you tried for that baby. You gave his last hours all you could, including love, care, safe space, and medical help as well. It's just life, life determines what is to be. It brought you both to him. He was so sweet. Your neighbor did right as well. He knew you are good loving animal people and just good in general. Thank you for all the videos!
Brooke, I am so sorry! I agree. We need to build each other up, not tear them down. That was a critical spirit, for sure. It's happened to me before, but I chose to forgive that person. Brooke, you are so beautiful inside and out. Be a duck and let it roll off our backs. I love yall! Happy New Year!
🤣🤣🤣 Maybe if I lost weight, I wouldn't be so hot natured!!!! Oh, wait, I've been hot most of my life even when I was skinny!🤣🤣🤣 At 71, I'm battling my weight and just a change in medication can cause fluctuations in weight and hot/cold body temperatures. Brooke, you are beautiful and I love your attitude about mean people!
Dear Brooke, no matter where you go, what you do, or who you are, there is some form of evil. In Christ, there is love and protection! My grandmother used to say that when people were giving her a hard time, they were giving others a rest. I loved her attitude and all the life lessons she taught me; l truly love and miss her. Hang in there!❤
I laid in bed and watched videos of all my favorite creatures and suddenly it was 12:15 am. So now it's 1:07pm on the 1st January. in Queensland Australia ❤ Love to you all. Happy New Year.
You guys are awesome 😎 people! I would love to be one of your neighbors!! I feel like when I watch your videos that we are visiting! So much fun. Love you guys! Patty from Georgia!
We always made sauerkraut in a large crock with an inverted plate set on top of the cabbage. The crock we used was one my great grandma had used Tried and true hand me downs. 😊
I always got the job of " stiring " when I spent the holidays with my grandma. I found her HUGE crock in the ground by the house we now live in ! I was putting up a bird feeder. WOW, their hundreds of $$$ now if ya can find one. I have a SUPER recipe for crock dill pickles, if you'd like. Jason, get those grapes started along your woodline, they are needed in recipe. 😋
What kind of hateful person would say something like that to you? I hope you blocked them because you certainly are one of the nicest people EVER! I am shocked to my core that someone could be so small-minded and mean? I could never asy something like that to anyone, unless they were being mean to a friend. THEN all bets are off and I can out-mean most people in that case. My motto is "What comes around, goes around" which is very true. Karma is spelled "HAHAHAHAHA". I would love to get your recipe for the Greek Chicken. I heard that Hoppin' John is the thing to eat on New Year's Day. I need to try the sauerkraut recipe, but I need to get the tops for the jars. Don't listen to hateful people. You and Jason are truly two of THE nicest people ever!
I lived up by Chicago until I was 35. I never had to run to the store if bad weather was forecast. My momma taught us all to keep our pantry well stocked starting in October. We were also taught to keep no less than 24 rolls of toilet paper at all times. lol
Idiots abound everywhere. Some of us, however, were taught by family or friends to have a properly stocked pantry and how to bake. - Always have dry powdered milk in the pantry (it's basically freeze-dried milk). Un-opened pouches of dry powdered milk are shelf-stable for years! Plus, you can mix with water to one's preferred thinness or thickness. - Always have bread flour stored in air-tight containers (yeast in the freezer is a bonus) ... so you can bake bread (for cheaper than at the store - with the added benefit of warming the house in the process in the winter). - Always have boxes of plain dried potato flakes (they're freeze-dried blanched shredded potatoes) in the pantry - not only for making mashed potatoes in a pinch, but for thickening soups & stews, as well as for adding to the bread dough. - Always have peanut butter in the pantry. - Always have canned veggies in the pantry. - Always have dried beans stored in air-tight containers in the pantry.
Love my cast iron. Loved Tony’s video 🎉on cast iron. Learned my Dutch oven is The Birmingham Steel. Wouldn’t take anything for it. My son is a plumber in Montgomery and I have asked him to be on the lookout for pieces I am looking for. He stopped at a yard sale and brought me a 14 inch skillet just before Christmas and I can’t wait to fry chicken in it. Brooke I have been on steroids since April and have put on 20 lbs. just came off them Christmas Day. Looking forward to getting back to my normal weight. I too have been diagnosed with autoimmune disease with PMR one of the side effects of the initial shots in 2021. You are a beautiful woman. Your heart is as good as gold. Thank you, Jason and Mary Carl for the love and care you give your animals. God bless you and your family. Happy New Year 🎊
I use a cast iron pan for home fries. They are the best made in the cast iron pain. I seasoned it with lard. No soap. I wipe it out while warm after cooking.🍳 😊✌🏻❤️🙏🏻🇺🇸PA
I grew up on sauerkraut. My Nana ‘s family was from Germany. She would make a Sunday dinner of roast pork with sauerkraut that simmered on the kerosene heater in the kitchen. She cut up a potato and tossed in, added caraway seeds and home crispy bits from the roast as it cooked. I would be sneaking forkfuls . lol.
My father used to put plain white bread in a glass of milk, and sometimes, he and my mom both would put cornbread in buttermilk and just eat it with a spoon. I will probably still be awake after midnight, but not just for New Years, but just because I rarely get to sleep before then. My youngest son is like Caden. Since he was little bitty, he would love working. He still works hard and seems always to be busy. I hope you all have many blessings in 2025.
I won’t be partying but will be up at midnight. I’m a night owl and never get to bed til after midnight or later. Love you all and wish you a healthy , happy and blessed New Year!!
Brook, keep in mind that when someone shares their negative opinion, what they have to say is their problem and NOT yours. Please don’t take on someone else’s problems. I learned that lesson and it has saved much grief. And, you’re doing really good ! Rock on Brook !
As a Louisiana Southern girl, I continue to get up "with the chickens" and go to sleep "with the chickens!" Staying up late has never been a thing for me. I was always up early to take care of my horses & dogs - no matter the weather... 🤔🤪😁 Love you & Jason & your animals.❤❤❤ Happy New Year
I stay up late, late now. Just about every night. Try to get up by 10, 10:30😂😂. I love listening to you all. You both are so funny😂😅😂😅. Popcorn😂🎉🎉. Yes, untin 4:00 am.
I just ordered the Fermintation Kit from Hoss. I plan on trying cabbage next spring. I did a small garden this past spring after my husband passed. Something to do and it did well. I think he was watching over it. So now i'm ready for spring. Prayers for Caden.
My family, on both sides, are predominantly German. My Granny had a permanent hole dug in the back yard for her Kraut Crock. When we made Kraut (we shredded the cabbage) and covered the crock with burlap and buried it for 3 months in the fall. Authentic German Sauerkraut! I have her 3 gallon crock and my Granddad's 16 inch hog knife for butchering hogs. I have lots of my Grandparents old manual items, cast iron included.
Keep praying for the return of Sweet Sadie, I am so hoping that she returns home!😢 P.S. Happy New Year dear ones, I just finished a cup of coffee next to the fire, so cozy!
Here in SE Kansas, we don't get the snows like we did in the late 70's & 80's, but for sure we cleaned off the shelves when they foecasted snow! On winter we were snowed in at the farm for a week or more. The kids loved it until the milk started getting low! Their Dad actually got out big tractor stuck in the road trying to make tracks so we could get out! Also, what I understand about washing cast iron is that it USED to be true you couldn't put soap on them but that was when their soap had lye in it but it's safe now. I do wash mine with soap.
I use lard to season my cast iron frying pans and my cast iron frying pans never get washed in soapy water anymore they only get wrenched out with hot water and I haven't had a problem with anything sticking to them ever since I stopped washing my cast irons and soapy water😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Miss Brooke. I know you are one of the most nicest, sweetest, giving, caring, beautiful inside and out honest person! I have never met or talked to you, but just getting the pleasure of watching and listening to ya'll makes every day a wonderful day. God has blessed all of us to have ya'll in our lives. We need more people, like the Smith family, in our lives. Thank ya'll from the bottom of my heart ❤️
I grew up in Iowa, and I remember there being a run on Rock salt, or any salt to help melt the ice and snow and make the sidewalks safer. The second thing they went for was shovels.
We made our chain-male scrubber for our cast iron. We have a Dutch oven love it. And a campfire Dutch oven top is flat with an outer rim. It can be buried in the campfire with coals on top.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to the most awesome , the kindest, the hardest working & the best lookin' family on You Tube!! Thanks for spreading the love!!! ~ Mrs. C.♥♥♥
This octogenarian takes care of my cast iron just like our favorite biscuit maker MS BRENDA GANTT. If something sticks on my cast iron I pour hot water in it, let it soften a bit then scrub under hot water, no soap. . Dry well & hang on a peg. All of my cast iron is from previous generations, wagner & Griswold .
Are you kidding me Brooke??? That is a horrible thing to say to someone!!!! Just move on. That person is jealous. It doesn’t matter what size you are, that’s your business. Hugs to you, Jason and Mary Carl. Happy New Year 🎉
I am sorry someone is treating you in a negative way! They have no right to say these things! They are miserable people! You are amazing! Keep being you! 🌸🌻🐝🦚🦆🦃🦢🐓🐖🫏🐎🐄🐐🦮🐈⬛🤗💕
My Daughter - in -Law and myself has had Flu A-B pneumonia and Covid rolled into one package ! We both have been sick it took month but I think we’re both going to make it! Both being nurses doesn’t help any … ! At least we didn’t get put into hospital, we did everything at home … shots Iv’s medication etc…..we doctored each other with help from great medical staff we sure love !!!
My Dad was a dairy farmer for 40 plus years and when they had company, when it got to be his bedtime he would say, " You all are welcome to stay as long as you want but I going to bed" Mom always stayed up until the last quest way gone. She also got up the same time he did at 4:00 a.m. to start milking! I sure miss Dad and those days.
I have friends who are in to Dutch Oven cooking .They attend "Dutch Oven Gatherings" where people show off there skills with Dutch Oven cooking .They cook everything with cast iron .
Amen Brooke. ❤ I'm with you. I was told once, in front of my teenage son, 'you have such a pretty face why don't you lose weight?' I had to stop my son from jumping that person. Just talking about it brings up emotion. I'm on meds that makes it hard to lose.😢
I seasoned my new cast iron from Lodge with Avacado oil but keep it seasoned with bacon grease. I also clean with just hot water and chainmail when needed. Dry immediately and if I have time, I'll dry it in a 425 oven. Once completely dry, I'll wipe it down with a very small amt of bacon grease while the pan is still warm. This is just my experience, but it has served me very well. I saw Jessica Sowards use soap on a used pan she had that was rusted real bad but after that, she doesn't use soap. Just FYI. Happy New Year everybody!
There’s a comedian from Tennessee, named Henry Cho. His wife is from Arab, Alabama. Anyway, one of his jokes is they shut down everything if snow is predicted. Then he says everyone runs to the store to stock up because you might be home bound for “one” day. Then you have about 14 loaves of bread…. Anyone want a sandwich? 🤣🤣🤣. He’s hilarious. And family friendly that I’ve ever heard. I wish I could see him on my birthday in May. He’s going to be in Portland, Oregon. My husband was in the Navy in the 1960’s. I would buy a bunch of half gallons of milk at the commissary and freeze them. We had 4 small kids.
I took a free class on fermentation. I was never able to make anything, long story so I won’t get into it, but the instructor told some amazing health stories.
oh my, you both are such lovely people. I will say never even noticed any weight change. How gracious you are to respond as you have. You are so beautiful, and it is the only thing I ever noticed! God Bless
Jason & Brooke, here in New York Zealand we also suffer from empty BREAD AND MILK SEIVES ON RARE OCCASSION. Back in the day, my five brothers used to have late night snack of . . . . WIT FOR IT ! ! ! ! CUBED BREAD, BROWNSUGAR & HOT MILK. They loved it and to think that I had previously always 😮 , SOUP WITH BREAD AND BUTTER, FULL MEAT AND VEGETABLES MAINS, PLUS A BAKED FRUIT DESSERT
SORRY ABOUT MISTAKES BUT IM STRUGGLING WITH A VERY TINY KEYPAD WHICH I can NOT SEEM TO FIX😩ANOTHER MISTAKE IS NEW YORK WHICH SHOULD BE NEW ZEALAND. . . . Which was the ROBOT interfering. Loving your video🥰🤗🙏🏻
BTW,we lead the world in greeting the NEW YEAR AS I WRITE, it’s January the 1st 2025 nearly midnight🙀MAY GOD BLESS YOU BOTH WITH A HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR🤗🥰🙏🏻
I wonder what he finds to do while off his feet🙀🥰. I was that same youngster, young woman also. My Dad used to pull the iron plug at midnight and send me to bed. I was the eldest of Eight children and no mum just my Dad and us kids so my busy life was kind of mapped out for me so it was just as well I had that work Ethic or DNA Mix in my nature🥰
I wish you both a happy and healthy new year. I’m so glad Caden got to come by for a visit. He had been wanting to so much. Thank you both for supporting him and all the prayers. He is counting the days until he can get back to all his normal activities. ❤from Caden’s grandmother.
I grew up in the snow belt of Michigan and we never had to run to the store to stock up on TP or bread and milk. We just hoped the snow plows couldn't get out early enough for the school busses so we could have a late start to our school day.
You nailed it Hay is a no no with snow because it can mold with wet straw won't and it retains heat off their bodies. We use straw in our cats houses we make in Minnesota we get donated igloo coolers drill holes for cats or possums to fit inside put a flap on the door and fill with straw. Then place on 2×4's. Where im at in Minnesota St Paul is a small Mexican area my grandma and greatgrandma use a comal for tortillas and a cast iron fry pan for refried beans so they use lard or bacon gease for season remember they were old school. In Minnesota we don't clear the shelves out not even toilet paper we get it as we need it our plows get us out as the snow comes down. Organic milk Has nothing to do with being organic that it last longer. Producers use a different process to produce it. It has to last longer because it travels farther to reach store shelves because its not produced throughout the country.

It makes me happy to see you and only a grinch with a heart 4 times too small would say something nasty to your family

Bringing in Vermont, I can truly say that yes it happens here too!
Ya’ll celebrate any way you want to! My hubby is already asleep!
Get well Caden take time to heal please
Happy New Year, Cog Hill ! Brooke you are terrific! Please don't take that unkind comment to heart. You have so many fans that love you!😊❤
I will be asleep before the new year is rung in
We have always used lard, my Mom and Gran did as well.... Shannon in Virginia ❤❤
The corn bread skillet can be purchased at Cracker Barrel.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to the most awesome , the kindest, the hardest working & the best lookin' family on You Tube!! Thanks for spreading the love!!! ~ Mrs. C.♥♥♥
Jason you could do a live by yourself Saturday like you use to 😉
We have one just like that, that my husband loves.
Happy New Year Cog Hill! May God bless you all and the farm throughout 2025
Happy New Year to a marvelous family! Thank you for all the wonderful videos over the past year!🎉🎆🎊🎇💕🤗💕
This octogenarian takes care of my cast iron just like our favorite biscuit maker MS BRENDA GANTT. If something sticks on my cast iron I pour hot water in it, let it soften a bit then scrub under hot water, no soap. . Dry well & hang on a peg. All of my cast iron is from previous generations, wagner & Griswold .
Happy New Year to Cog Hill. I hope 2025 brings nothing but good.
Brooke, they might have a Toboggan!!! You can go snow sledding on a Toboggan!!!😂😂😂
Love watching your videos and love your compassion for animals and people. You are all the best! Happy, happy New Year!!!
Now that we have a stand by generator we don't run to the store before a storm anymore!
Probably safer to not be in a hospital, can't rest there either
My Dad was a dairy farmer for 40 plus years and when they had company, when it got to be his bedtime he would say, " You all are welcome to stay as long as you want but I going to bed" Mom always stayed up until the last quest way gone. She also got up the same time he did at 4:00 a.m. to start milking! I sure miss Dad and those days.
I have friends who are in to Dutch Oven cooking .They attend "Dutch Oven Gatherings" where people show off there skills with Dutch Oven cooking .They cook everything with cast iron .
Happy New Year. Hope you all will have a great year 2025❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Amen Brooke. ❤ I'm with you. I was told once, in front of my teenage son, 'you have such a pretty face why don't you lose weight?'
I had to stop my son from jumping that person. Just talking about it brings up emotion. I'm on meds that makes it hard to lose.😢
Have a wonderful and BLESSED 2025 ❤❤❤
You and your family have a wonderful new year 😊❤
Happy New Year ! Get well Caden ! Listen to your mom , she knows best .
Lol, come 9 pm I'm going to bed. The only thing that will wake me up is the darn fireworks. God bless you and Happy New Year.
I had that feta cheese, tomato, and pasta casserole,,,yummy
God Bless
Yes they do even when it’s not an emergency situation!!
Jason & Brooke, here in
New York
Zealand we also suffer from empty BREAD AND MILK SEIVES ON RARE OCCASSION. Back in the day, my five brothers used to have late night snack of . . . . WIT FOR IT ! ! ! ! CUBED BREAD, BROWNSUGAR
& HOT MILK.
I was the eldest of
Eight children and no mum just my Dad and us kids so my busy life was kind of mapped out for me so it was just as well I had that work Ethic or DNA Mix in my nature🥰
I wish you both a happy and healthy new year. I’m so glad Caden got to come by for a visit. He had been wanting to so much. Thank you both for supporting him and all the prayers. He is counting the days until he can get back to all his normal activities. ❤from Caden’s grandmother.
I have one of those , and a corn stick and muffin pan. I have all of both grandparents cast iron pieces.
I grew up in the snow belt of Michigan and we never had to run to the store to stock up on TP or bread and milk. We just hoped the snow plows couldn't get out early enough for the school busses so we could have a late start to our school day.
We love watching your videos every time they are on . We wish you all health and happiness in 2025 . God Bless you all.
After the fact....YES, I did stay up for a change, and it was great this year!
It’s called the Ringer. This Farm wife influenced me to buy one, she has an amazon link on her channel.
I’m the same Brooke, I can’t do crowds anymore. You, Jason and Mary Carl are just right the way you are ❤️❤️❤️
Happy New Year !!! 💜✨️🙏
Please make some more Christmas coffee. I haven’t got to try it yet. Thank you 🙏🏻
