I have been doing archery for 30 years. Two years ago I was shooting my recurve war bow using wooden arrows when I released and the arrow exploded. A 5 inch section on the shaft went threw my hand in very close to the same spot as your oops. Crazy painful. Accidents do happen so any protection you can use, use it.
