The Communist Party was banned until 2000

Он был ужасным императором, совершенно не понимал, что происходит в народе, настроения, голод населения и эта совершенно ненужная война с Японией, которая и стала началом конца. He also sent millions of Russians to their death in a war he didn't know how to win even though he had numbers, land and resources. And when people were starving, he didn't care. Say what you want about Lenin, but he gave people what they wanted. Land and bread.

It's a myth that the Russian Empire "was a horrible place", though it was obviously not heaven either, it was just "normal".
What was a horrible place was the Soviet Union that formed later- over 20 million dead thanks to its down governments policies. I dont recall a Tsar that got that many innocents killed in such a short time.

    • @fenrir7878

He sent millions to die in a pointless war and ruined his country's economy, and people were starving. He is the reason there was a Soviet Union. He was totally out of touch.
He would have been better off abdicating after 1905 or becoming a Constitutional Monarch. That way he could have lived. But World War I destroyed Russia.

McBabwe : I don't think the problem was Nicholas II's reign itself but instead it was the problem of the political autocratic system by which he ruled under. Autocracy may have worked well during the 17th & 18th centuries during the reign of Peter I "aka" (Peter the Great). But it was completely unworkable in the 20th century during Nicholas II's reign. I truly believe that if he had been a constitutional monarch and wasn't forced to meddle in politics that Nicholas II would have been a truly beloved and respected Tsar/Emperor. In that instance the Russian monarchy could have survived instead of suffering the terrible fate of history which actually occured to it.

Tsar Nicholas II was in one of the toughest spots anyone could have been as a leader, especially a hereditary leader.
Russia had a history of strong tsars, autocrats and nobility, when the world around it was constitutionalizing. Tsar Nicholas II, as many said, did not think he was going to have to become Tsar of All Russians, but fate had different plans, he wanted a happier and simpler life, but he did what was his duty to the best of his ability. From what I can understand, he felt, along with most people, God selected him to lead his people, to improve the nation out of the 19th century and into the 20th, but due to the Russian-Japanese conflict and communists exploiting the defeat, he really was struggling against an uphill battle.
So, in my opinion, Tsar Nicholas II loved his people, he loved Russia and did the best he could in a really bad situation; and it's important to remember, the short republic after his murder did not last long, at all, it fell incredibly quickly to the USSR.
May the last Tsar, his family, along with those soldiers and civilians who defended the legacy of the Russian people, rest in peace.

@@kittycatwithinternetaccess2356 That's my point. You can find nothing to slander the Bolsheviks without resorting to Stalin. Popular tripe prevails over historical fact. The Soviet famine of the 30s was a devastating result of Stalin's economic adventurism of forced collectivization. Nothing more. Now your turn. Tell me ONE thing of Czarist Russia not from the 1997 Don Bluth animated film. I want to know about how wonderful Ukrainians lived in the Czar's democracy that those horrible Bolsheviks destroyed.

Tsar Nicholas ii isn't "evil" or a "bad guy" he wasn't prepared physically nor mentally to undergo the responsibility of becoming a high level tsar, ruler of all Russia. But none the less, he nor his family doesn't deserve to be murdered, they could've exiled them, King George brought up sanctuary for them, but later took his offer back, it doesn't matter, they didn't deserve this.
