      When it comes to acting and singing, it’s very important that you pay attention to knowing what you are saying. Ultimately you must remember that you are still trying to tell a story and express your feelings, you just happen to be singing while saying it. Know that what you are saying is very important and make sure you carry that through into your performance.
      I’ve seen a lot of musical theater artists focus more on their vocal tone rather than telling the story they are speaking and this couldn’t be more wrong. You must focus on both and have them playing together simultaneously. Hope this helps 👍🏼

      @@maddyfrench722 hey I know this is a late response but, just wanted to tell you that I live in a small town to! The re is so filming here so I was worried on how I was going to start acting in shows/movies so what I did is I went to 'backstage' this website shows you the nearest locations to where they are filming something or a project you can join. It is really helpful if you live in a small town since there won't be alot going on. You could always ask your parents (if your under age) to drive you somewhere and audition and you could maybe rent a hotel room. The last thing I wanna share is that you could always audition online send it in and then wajt to see their response. This way if they say yes then you can go but, if they say no then you saved a trip (it's ok if it happens everyone gets rejected sometimes but take it as experience) I hope this helps!

    Don’t become an actor because you want to be “famous” or want a role in a new tv show.....do it because you want to, because you feel the need to act. Because it’s your life... not for fame and a celebrity status....

I personally just want to act bcs I just really like it for myself and I also like to entertain people so yea

    Seeing how my brother wanted was almost in the business before he passed away. I never really had any other things that really catches my eye besides acting . I never had the best grades school isn’t my thing. So acting isn’t a choice for me. If it takes years or so be it i will not give up. Being famous is the least I’m worry about. Absolutely! The only ways to get better are by getting more experience, watching others, and working hard to honestly evaluate yourself and specifically where you can get better, which will help with hating to watch yourself. As you learn more from your teachers, peers, and experience, you'll get better at recognizing where you actually are good and what specifically you can do to work on things. I hope that helps!

    I really really want to be an actress even though a lot of times i think that it’s impossible. But like I cant help about thinking about it and really appreciating and looking further about acting industry, like deep inside me i know I really want this. But when I start to think about the risk of this industry it really scares me but there’s a big part of me that I’m willing to sacrifice and go through all the hardships, rejections and all just to pursue acting. everyday i’m conditioning my self that being an actor is not a joke, that it is really really hard and its not about the fame, so I always ask myself if I’m really willing to accept this kind of life where there are no certainty. But great actors really inspires me when they share their journey to inspire people, most especially to actors who was been dormant in acting but still continues to act even though they are underrated or something like that. It’s hard to express what im feeling right now but I know I’ll be a geart actress and no matter what happen I’ll act not because of fame but because Acting is what I want and that its a big part of me

    Yeah, I really recommend people study theatre in college and pursue acting after they graduate. That way, if they don’t like it, you can get more opportunities to work in industries that require a bachelors or pursue a masters. It’s a lot harder going back to college when you’re a good deal older than the 18-22 year olds. Plus that’s a good time in life to have a college experience.
    I did acting and by my late 20’s realized it wasn’t working for me despite many great experiences and transitioned into becoming a therapist. It’s the reality of the arts.

    Do I need to be doing theater in high school to be an actor? I’m planning on doing classes outside of school but our school doesn’t have a very good theater program and I don’t have any friends who do plays. Is classes outside of school enough?

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      One of the most important things I tell actors is that they must test it out first, (if they decide acting is the route they want to go down). If you don’t test it out, it’s the same equivalent of someone saying they want to be a professional chef, before ever attempting to make a meal or work in a heated/hurried kitchen. I would suggest taking classes, just for this point alone of testing it out and seeing if you truly enjoy it. Of course the better classes you can take is a plus. Classes outside of school may tend to be a little better, but it can really depend on the instructor. If your first step is to test it out, either one is fine. Hope this helps 👍🏼

    Ok ... so perhaps this is a phase I don't know but i really need to just let it out cause I feel like you're the one who really gets it ... this acting thing has been in my mind for some time .... well I've always been fascinated by the movies I watch because of the story and I've always kept asking myself what it would be like if i were a part of it .... it really isn't for the money or fame but although to be honest long time ago I used to think about being am actor because of the respectable image it might give me ... but that reason wasn't genuine enough for me to consider acting so i left it .... it's only now that I realise my reasons are alot more genuine then they were last time cause now it's all about wanting to be a part of a story that moves me ... and the audience and me wanting to live in my own imaginations for once and just step away from reality and experience what someone else's life is like .... and seeing myself do some cool shit cause I've always imagined myself in dope ass situations since I was a kid😅😅. I'm not an expert in acting AT ALL .... I've just started you're literally the first source of knowledge that I've come across about acting and I'm fascinated by how you made acting sound so simple.... I'm 20 by the way ... just to let you know how bad i am in this .... well I'm a beginner so yeah .... so i don't know ... maybe your advice would be nice .... and seriously it would TREMENDOUSLY SPECTACULARLY AMAZING if u replied. I wanna hear your thoughts ... sorry if I sound too desperate ... 😁

    They say there are a lot of people in Hollywood with talent. As a struggling actor for many years I thought so too as I saw many more skilled than I was. Until I had a real eye opening experience in a play I was in 20 years ago. From being in that play I discovered that actually nobody has much talent based on the performance of an actress in that play. This woman was the best actress I had ever seen. Her performance made all the academy award actresses I had ever seen in films put together look like nothing compared to this woman’s talent. We had rehearsed for months and a few days before the performance the lead actress got sick. The producers didn’t want to scrap the play so they held some quick auditions for a replacement. I was at the auditions when hundreds of actresses showed up. They were good but nothing special. One actress was given a ride by her older sister who sat watching the auditions. The director kept saying No, No you are playing an aging prostitute reflecting on the mistakes in her life. You are not believable. At a break the actress with the sister wanted to practice so she gave the script to her sister to work on it with her. It was like lightening once in a lifetime. The sister was unbelievable. Everyone, the director the producer the whole cast stopped and watched. The director asked the sister to read the lead part. She put the script down and said she didn’t need it as she had memorized it by listening to the women auditioning. She did the part cold with not having ever rehearsed it. It was unbelievable.Her acting, but it really was not acting, because she BECAME the prostitute, was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. After doing some of the lines she would stop and ask if it was ok if she did it again but change some of it because she said as written it was not how the real Lola would have responded. The writer was there and remarked she was actually improving the lines for the part. Everyone asked her how she did that. She said script only captured 80% of the character and when she acted and became the character she added the 20% that was missing to make Lola a whole person. The director immediately dismissed the other actresses auditioning for the part and said she had it. Then he said to her tell me the truth. NO actress in the entire world can do what you did without months of rehearsal but it was an original play never done before so she couldn’t have seen the script before. Everyone asked how did she do it. She said when she was 7 years old her mother took her to a broadway play. On seeing it once she memorized all the songs in it and performed them on the subway coming home. She said people clapped then asked her to do some of the speaking parts. She did the lead actress then did it again and added some lines because she said that was not what she thought the character would say. She then told everyone she went to see Sweeney Todd with her sister. She said the actress doing Mrs. Lovett was terrible and was just a funny caricature of the real Mrs. Lovett. The real person was a much darker evil person. Everyone then asked her to do Mrs. Lovett. She did and I have never been so scared in my whole life. I was afraid to turn my back on her after that because I was afraid. On the day of the performance of the play only about 20 people showed up and there was only one performance. This woman’s performance was earth shattering. All the actors and actresses in the play said they gave the best performance of their lives due to acting with her. I had some lines with her and it was the best acting I ever did in my life due to interacting with her. They said she lifted the whole company up. After the play all she could do was console her sister that she didn’t get the part. She told her sister I am a language teacher and do acting for fun. I have never seen anyone ever before or since with a hundredth of the acting talent this woman had. She has never been in a single movie or TV show. If she had she would put everybody to shame with her amazing unique talent.

      Remember acting is a hard business to break into and is very very difficult when it comes to booking movies/Tv shows. For musicals, remember it doesn’t just come down to having the right acting skills, but also singing and dance. One question I would ask myself, if I was in your shoes is “how much am I practicing/working on my acting each day?” And answer this 100% truthfully. How much practice did you just get in yesterday? If you wanted to become a concert pianist, how long would you need to practice each day? A lot and you wouldn’t skip any days. Something that continues to keep me honest is asking the question “if I was a concert pianist would I be practicing enough?” Acting takes practice and time just like anything else.
      Hope this helps 👍🏼

    Hey man, I’m in a state that isn’t California. I’ve recently noticed my passion of story telling. It took me a long time to realize it. I’ve realized I’m insanely passionate about acting. I’ve already started practicing and plan on joining an acting club come next semester of college. I’m about to be a fourth year and I’m majoring in computer science. I graduate in 5 years, but I want to pursue acting. I’m also 21. What’s your recommended plan of action? I was thinking to pursue and learn as much about acting while getting my degree, and then moving out to LA and using my degree to get a job while pursuing acting. So instead of getting a job here, I’d look for one in LA. Also you share the most raw advice for aspiring actors I have ever seen. I just started this and I can already see that you are just teaching what you know and don’t think you’re above anyone. It’s helpful and thanks for it all.

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey man, thank you for the kind words I really appreciate it. It sounds like a solid plan. By having a degree you don’t have to worry as much as most do, when it comes to making living/surviving to put food on the table/pay next months rent. You save yourself some of those burdens. One thing I might suggest while you are pursuing your degree, is to try self submitting yourself for nation wide open casting calls (when they become available). Which means anyone can submit for the project without an agent. It’s easy enough to send in a video clip from where you’re at doing a scene. And then from there keep working on developing and improving your craft 👍🏼
      Hope this helps!

      There is no real age limit to becoming an actor. You’re actually still quite young. There are pros and cons of starting acting at different ages, but there is no limit. One of the mistakes that people tend to make though, is that they jump into acting to quick, before they’re even ready. If you were to pursue acting now, it would have to be a collective effort from both you and your parents.

    Get a trade over a degree. It's cheaper and gives you MUCH more flexibility in where and how often you work. And if you're good at almost any trade the money is better than most degrees. For instance I have qualifications as an Arborist. I can freelance or work for a company. Though I'm now long in the tooth so am concentrating on acting. Wish I'd concentrated on acting earlier as I really enjoy it and seem to be getting more and more work.

Tell them it's your dream and you're willing to do whatever it takes. If that means mowing lawns every weekend to pay for your acting classes, managing your time wisely so you can balance school and acting, or even learning how to budget and manage your money so you can afford to act, then that's what you'll do. When they see that you're wanting to do this because of your own ambition, they'll be way more willing to support you. Your parents will be your greatest ally in this journey. Show them you're willing to work for it, don't just tell them.

    Hey, I am having trouble getting motivated to practice. I once was unsatisfied with myself when rehearsing lines, I was trying to make it sound right even though I was in the memorizing process. Anyway, since then, I called it negative work. I am trying to get back into acting and I am having trouble staying motivated, I don't know if acting is my passion or not, I made the bad idea for making the mindset that it should be a career. Any tips for staying motivated?

    • @TheActorsAcademy
      @TheActorsAcademy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This can be a tricky point. When someone is really passionate about something, they tend to find the time when they can work. One thing that tends to help is building ones ability of putting more time in to practice more, is literally creating a schedule. For you, I’d suggest today writing out a weekly schedule for where you will fit times in to practice and stay honest to it. One way to benefit yourself, is to not over do the practice, put in an amount of time that is reasonable for you. By sticking to your schedule each day, you begins to build positive habits which become natural and feel less bothersome over time. Again put on your list a reasonable amount of time that you can ACTUALLY commit to.
      This helps build you into the habit of practicing. There is no real quick scheme to building motivation, but by working in this way and gradually seeing improvements, this can be asset that helps you.
      Cheers 👍🏼

      Well, maybe you can do research for a few years until you’re a bit older, then ask your parents again. If they still don’t agree, you could try when you’re eighteen. Practicing would probably be the best option now if you’re parents don’t agree with it. Maybe put on a play or something with friends and it would show them how passionate you are about acting. Don’t give up!

      I suggest getting a degree of some sort. It can be in theater or something else, it really depends on what you prefer. For example if you got a degree in theater, after you’ve graduated you can either get a job teaching or go into substitute teaching (depending on what you prefer). Like I said, a degree of some sort is better than none. The degree you choose to get though, is up to you. Are there some degrees which are better than others? Yes, but again it depends on what you are interested in :)
