Yeah, I didn’t understand the filter on top thing… the whole point of the filter is to prevent grinds from getting into your espresso… this is even far more important if you’re like me and drink light roasts where the grind setting is very fine.
THATS NOT WHY HE DOES THIS...It's to prevent the coffee puck residue from messing up the grouphead and having to flush it after every shot . You don't hafta clean the grouphead as often when you do this. And putting filters on the bottom of the Porto can restrict the flow of the shot on many machines and coffees

Have you tried putting the paper filter first? That way it stops the fines from leaking into your cup. It seems like it’s not doing much on top of
