I’m all for freedom of speech, but monodoe really doesn’t offer this games community anything other than more drama so i think it was fair that he got banned (and also he apparently bypassed the “n word” and “trans slurs” ingame but i haven’t seen any proof of that) BUT my point still stands. Like i said in my video, issue 4 isn’t about monodoe in particular rather the nature of banning people based off opinions, especially off platform. I don’t want people like wllsknwlls, who doesn’t agree with the consensus among the community and is a conservative to be banned for opinions, that was what my point was
I feel like you have to draw the line somewhere, though. I'd be happy with the idea of them easing off a little but if someone's opinion was something like "gay marriage is bad" or "the Holocaust is good" then at that point it just seems like accepting them in the community does more harm than good.

I completely agree about your points about the staff team. I tried to open a ticket to get all my jtoh badges back as my previous account got terminated recently. They said it “wasn’t possible”. I guarantee if this happened to skitsuna and blocker was the moderator not only would he have had his 375 tower points back, but also he would have recieved a free lapdance from blocker as compensation.
i do actually agree with a lot of the stuff in this video though there's a few things i should mention: - the first point about the game currently being beginner unfriendly is ABSOLUTELY true; a few of my friends have dropped the game even at tower of annoyingly simple trials since it's still very much possible to lose significant progress, and of course there's the classic beginner trap of just beelining to citadel of laptop splitting, failing the jump onto the spinner and then just droppign the game, when purgatorio releases the rest of the game will actually be restricted from newcomers, being only unlocked when enough progress is made in purgatorio, it's possible i may go for further than that and possibly restricting the player from playing towers too far outside their difficulty (however i think that purgatorio may solve the issue of running to CoLS and giving up) - continuing from that, i also believe we should make significant changes to early towers, to make them enjoyable and remove most if not all of the "random trap" aspect of classic gameplay as it is an identity that the game no longer follows and only serves to frustrate new players, i don't think towers would be completely remade but they could receive massive updates like how i updated ToWEL ~2 years after its release to improve it, and how tower of traps was updated but for a reason i don't really know about it was reverted? there's also the ToWER update that i also did but i (or possibly another developer without communication) reverted it back to the original version, so it's possible i may reimplement the updated version, possibly toning down on the newer mechanics a bit - the primary reason that we stopped doing full-scale events for now is because they always have ended up pulling development time away from the rest of the game, it's nowhere near as bad as like 2 years ago but i hope that the introduction of main story content would be a worthy replacement - i'm also kinda iffy on the idea of keeping reasons on why we demote/ban someone a secret now that you brought it up, i think part of it might have been that we were too worried it would drive the community to harass people to the ends of the earth but it seems like with punky's ban we didn't really announce to anyone that she groomed a minor, although i don't remember much about the situation as investigating the case was a draining task and i struggled to come to terms with the fact that someone who was once a good friend of mine had been a groomer - i only mildly agree with the point about banning people for their political opinions; i don't mind the presence of people having a different opinion than mine and being conservative, but i draw the line whenever hating trans/gay people comes to mind; i feel like that is where the line is crossed from being a harmless opinion to almost bigotry, and usually the people we have banned have acted on their beliefs and attacked other people for being trans or otherwise a part of the lgbtq umbrella, overall a part of the reason that there is such a strict rule against homophobia and transphobia is that i want the place to feel as comfortable and inclusive as it can be for people; i'm also not actually sure if we do actually permaban people for having such an opinion, we've usually only temp banned in the past for it while only permabanning if they keep on harrassing - continuing from the above since the paragraph's grown fat, we wouldn't actually ban wllsknwlls for conservative opinions; the only time we would ban would be if he actually went out and attacked someone for their identity or sexuality - i am a bit concerned about curator standards now; while it does feel like you may be exaggerating a bit with zone 6's mechanical variety there's definitely some merit to it; it's not good for the game for sloptowers to be favored over actually creative towers - not mentioned in the video but; i've been iffy on the custom mechanic rule (not calling them CCOs because the term is misleading) basically ever since the start and have considered removing it many times in the past because of how it unnecessarily restricts people to just the kit, while a lot of the reasons in favor of the rule are stuff that would normally qualify a tower as bad anyways (oversaturation of mechanics is just bad design, custom scripts can be as buggy as any other client object contraption, etc.), i've heard from a good amount of friends who were scripters that they wish they could make a tower using their scripting skills but they don't have the coveted verified builder role so they can't really do anything about it, and most importantly i don't think i would even be making any more towers beyond like tower of deep darkness if i didn't have the special privilege of being owner which is also pretty telling - (this doesn't really count as you did update on it already but i just wanted to clarify this a bit more as well) monodoe did indeed to a lot more than just have an opinion, he's done some harassment in the past and in fact just today he pulled up in ring 1 with friends like it was the wild hunt from limbus company and harassed me while i was watching a friend play the game while also messing around there's also a few more points but i left them out since array had said a few things that i also had in mind overall, i don't want the game and community to be unfriendly and i want to try and take steps to bring it out of the predicament it has fallen into this year

i'm glad you liked some of my points, but I really do think that rings 1-6 need some serious revamps. AToS does this all the time and the game is much more enjoyable to progress through than jtoh currently. Also idk if this is still the case, but banning severity in the discord is much more in favor towards the lgbtq. i used to see people post racist jokes and be let off without warnings, but others posting edgy stuff about the lgbtq and being banned. Again idk if this is still the case but i definitely think you guys should be much more consistent with what constitutes as hate speech and what's ban/warn worthy. But yeah it's kinda crazy you watched this

OH MY GOD, THE LEGACY EVENT IS A PERFECT WAY TO PRESERVE THE EARLY TOWERS IF THEY GET REVAMPED we gotta get the AToS treatment, that game gives the early areas so many updates compared to JToH, it also runs way better on low end devices despite the massively detailed lobbies
Banana actually got me into jtoh, when I was watching him my favourite tower was Tower of Cogs and Steam (mid tower ik). When I actually started playing the game he had already quit so I beat the tower in his honor
Wow, you couldn't have said it better. I believe since 2021, JToH has been on a steady downfall. 2024 has been a very bad year for JToH and it's evident. It's sad to see the game that basically keeps me on Roblox be neglected like this.
I couldn't have said it better myself. Exactly the reasons why I quit JToH. I still want to play tower games and obbies however, so I decided to switch to fangame stuff like AToS and CSCD, because I find them to be more enjoyable and fun.
As a relatively new jtoh player coming from 2022, this game has definitely been a phenomenon to see. The early ktoh rings are extremely outdated and the latest zones kind of blend in. I am not even in the discord because I KNOW there is a lot of drama over there. Doing any sc towers feels like a waste of time and that comes from someone who's beaten only one of them. Maybe this game will have a redemption, but with the subrealm obsession the game is going through rn, I doubt it will be this year 😭
to give the game some credit, the w1 subrealms at least are being added for lore reasons (guardian subrealms for TFS eventually). revamping earlier areas is very necessary though, and moving the old rings 1-6 to some sort of legacy area (with an equivalent elevator secret in R1:R) would be a good compromise. tldr jtoh devs don't have their priorities straight and old areas need revamps
Is there a subrealm obession? I thought they were obsessing with a new zone (like zone 9 or 10 progress) heard that ring 1 will eventually get some more subrealms tho

i understand thinking discrimination bans could be a slippery slope, but it's obvious you've never been harassed online based on a minority status before. i think that wllsknwlls shouldn't be banned, as being conservative ≠ being a bigot, however monodoe's seems more justified. granted, i'm (obviously) biased, and i think it shouldn't be a permanent or GAME ban, perhaps just revoking in game chat privileges and a ban from the discord would be better. tldr i get where you're coming from, but a line does need to be drawn somewhere, and less severe things could get less severe punishment. if you read this, i'd like to hear your thoughts :3

I probably should've used a better example than monodoe for unfair bans considering no one including me was sad to see him get banned, but I think my point still stands. I’m super late to this since I’m not involved with the community that much anymore but honestly dude yeah a lot of points your making are just true Im about to do a yapathon about all the points because why not - Modern jtoh is so mind numblingly boring, trying to get through a modern area without leaving or giving up is so hard because it’s just the same stuff and it’s just boring. Also towers with a stupid amount of dialog are very annoying cause me personally, I could not care less about the story, I just want a fun challenging tower to complete, that’s what the game is about. - what’s said about the staff team is definitely correct, they’re just too busy now to actively work on the game and instead of juke or other higher staff members taking action, they aren’t doing anything which is bad for a game like jtoh that needs updates to thrive. It’s good they’re finally getting new staff now, hoping that it actually works out and the game gets updates (also I’m so annoyed about events being cancelled, they’re the last pillar of jtoh that make the game fun, celebrating a holiday, playing brand new challenges which are (mostly) really fun and well made and then fighting a big challenging boss is just phenomenal, the fact they’re basically being killed is so sad, I don’t believe it’ll make modern areas better. - I haven’t been at early game jtoh in 6 years so I can’t speak too much on this point, I really don’t want the towers to be changed though, the traps and the frustrating gameplay was what made the game special and fun, it feels rewarding to finally do it. The point made about the legacy event replay is a good one but if they’re gonna do any changes to it, I’d just remove unindicated traps and call it at that. These towers are old and changing them majorly will ruin the game imo - curator system is horrible, it’s practically controlled by 1 mod with a review from another curator every now and then, staff need more control over reviews and making sure curators are doing good at their job (also i think they should be paid robux is they aren’t already, they’re providing a service for the devs and that should be payable). I like the way Atos approaches the beginner problem, they frequently update the earlier areas and optimizes everything in a way that beginners won't leave the second they enter the game. Since purgatorio is coming soon, new players will 100% leave the game once they get access to ring 1 since their first impression was already good, but gets shattered by the abysmal quality of the towers there.

The JToH community I feel is undeniably degenerate, Roblox and other similar communities to JToH like GD are bound to have people who will dedicate themselves to these games and make these places comprised of many unhealthy individuals who feel entitled to them. The team behind JToH isn't really well put together and do whatever dumb decisions you mentioned that either waste time or are counterproductive to the player experience and overall quality to the game. I especially agree with your point that old towers are forever cemented in there respective areas whether or not they are even slightly worth playing or the creator even cares about them anymore. Games like AToS have overall better quality control and are easier to get into as a new player in my opinion, but still fundamentally run into the same problems because they aren't making the game any different than how JToH usually does. GD also has this issue somewhat where levels in gauntlets that can be very different in quality are handpicked by the games creator once and there's not much people can do to change anything. Same with GD curators who the community disagrees with or criticizes constantly for there being no proper, unbiased, and fair way to rate levels. With JToH I think the result of curation isn't as bad, many modern towers and even towers the later rings hold up very well and I don't see problems on gameplay too much. Besides, "modern" can include different styles, and not just whatever cool client object contraption is implemented, it's why CoHaD hasn't aged poorly. If you are one to be able to handle the punishment and difficulty of towers, then creative and well built towers shouldn't be scolded too harshly. For harder towers that by nature aren't fun because grinding JToH isn't really fun, sure, though for non soul crushing towers that weren't very early parts of the game, they can still be very enjoyable. I don't see the complaint of getting mad at one mechanic making the experience feel less original, as most towers are very unique and distinguishable. I personally really enjoy most well built JToH towers and will only get mad at gameplay elements if it is incredible apparent how unfair or overlooked it is, but for most good gameplay this isn't that true. There just isn't enough people willing to build, curate, or just manage JToH as a whole, since the veterans of the community will be fizzling out. An example being Gammator who is a shame isn't the straight up creator of the game while Juke is not far off from being a figure head who occasionally adds new rules in the discord on how to ban people for being racist than make more than 1 tower per 5 years, like with Tower of Oblivion (incredibly overhyped with no quality control and overall a mediocre tower). Even CoHaD was a massive project originally started by Juke but was only made amazing by the second half and all the creativity that went into it from others who worked on it. I've been inactive in the JToH server for at least a year so I'm not the most knowledgeable and there's things I can't know for myself, but I can make observations and respect those who still care about the game and make meaningful contributions. When you really ask yourself on paper what makes JToH fun there's many things that don't line up. The curve for beginners is horrible, the first 3 zones and first 6 rings aren't generally fun almost like the quality gets exponentially better past zone 3 and ring 6. Updates take forever. You get little reward for beating harder towers unless you are a recognized in the community or are deeply motivated. And the community is expectedly very asinine. What really confuses me though is even with all this people will still continue to play the game because once somebody gets past that initial curve of difficulty its very easy to continue until you reach a point that towers are so few in number and so little in incentive. The game fosters a certain niche that captivates people, especially since Roblox obstacle courses have been around forever and JToH gives such a different perspective. It's just so disappointing, because at a certain point in peoples lives JToH can be very fun but only during that certain period and people quitting usually never do without a sour impression of the game. It had so potential to be more than what it currently is and honestly could still change for the better but will new people or even the old ones miraculously fix these issues, I don't know. I will still enjoy JToH for what I believe it's good at like the gameplay and the creativity that still comes out of such a simple concept, but I did not write this because I want to change anybody's mind on why they might hate the game, only to share what I've experienced on one of the only Roblox games that I still come back to.
I agree with most of the video honestly, JToH after 2020/2021 kinda started to be a bit less enjoyable and a lot of the things mentioned in the video are the reasons why. My current main issue with the game is the lack of new staff. We need more curators so that we see more diverse towers in the game and we definitely need even more new devs. Instead of cancelling the current event format, they could've just made a dedicated event team whose only purpose is to work on events, but instead they went the easy route, just like they did with monthly challenges. New developers would bring new life into the game so I don't understand why they aren't hiring more devs or restructuring the staff team as a whole. It's so obvious that they're trying to bite off more than they can chew, especially when you look at how the update frequency has lowered over the past few years and I think that's the case because there's simply not enough staff. And as ambitions rise and new areas get even harder to work on, I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled another fun part of JToH. Events have always been something to look forward to each year, they brought the community together and they always made the end of the year for the game so memorable. I understand that they did it because it hinders the development process, but as I said earlier why can't they make a separate team for that. I love so many things about this game and I hate seeing those things slowly get replaced or removed, so I hope the staff team actually does something instead of sticking to the same format. To me it feels like they fear change and it's very apparent when you compare a random z5 or z6 tower with z8 and see how barely anything has changed over the past few years. It sucks that you're quitting JToH, because you have so much potential in the content creation scene, but I can fully understand why you're quitting, I've thought of doing the same multiple times for the same exact reasons. This is kinda the same thing why i don't play JToH anymore. The only thing that keeps me up is trying to a soul-crushing tower that i like. But the problem is that a majority of the towers nowadays just feels bland, it may look cool in design, or in gameplay, but it just doesn't feel enjoyable. One thing i liked about the KToH era was the simplicity, as it was just more fun to sightread (excluding traps) and didn't feel like a chore everytime you saw a puzzle coming ahead. I definitely won't quit obbying as a whole, as i still find some enjoyment in it, but JToH is going down rock-bottom at this point.
speaking on behalf of issue number 3 rq as a now content creator myself I was banned for ip leaking, never actually did leak an ip and instead i just had drama with an ex, then had my ban reason switched from ip leaking to * preventing drama * i hadnt caused drama in the server itself ever really besides being weird at 14-15 which ive changed as time went on and had my own wake up call, but that was not public drama in any way related to jtoh server itself, and I am still banned up to this day and have tried appealing multiple times lol also didnt notice you including me in your last video epicc:)

I agree with like 95% of this video, you make so many good points. I don’t play a lot of jtoh anymore, but stuff like this still appears in my feed some times and really makes me think. Honestly, I believe that a total revamp of ring 1 is needed. Most people would probably disagree but generally most of the towers in the beginning areas are so awful and instantly turn away new players for… the exact reasons you said. Stupid traps and unfun/overly punishing gameplay. Purgatorio will not fix this, if anything it could make it worse by giving a false illusion of what the towers in earlier areas will be like. And yeah, the community is awful, that goes without saying. Everyone has a huge ego and acts super elitist. I really feel like this culture makes it harder for new builders to get noticed as well which is really unfortunate. I saw someone in Lost River pick a fight with my brother for no reason. Calling ToUH "low remorseless" and just roasting him for no reason whatsoever. I think everyone involved in the jtoh discord is a lost cause. Its better to not get in conversations with people there.
i agree with most of the points in this video but i gotta say the bit about transphobia and being "apolitical" left a bad taste in my mouth, I don't know anything about how the jtoh staff team approaches the issue so they may totally be overreacting but frankly there is no "apolitical" middle ground between "trans people should all die" (actual position of mainstream conservatives) and "trans people should not all die actually"

Couldn't have agreed any more on the problems and issues presented in this video, especially after reading all of the comments below and watching RealAheeto's "Dark Side of JToH" video. I covered most of the exact same issues you had in the document I wrote 1 year and 2 1/2 months ago, and while I do regret some things I said, especially from being groomed/manipulated by Punky herself alongside Decima into painting them in an innocent light, I still think some of the points made in it outside of that major hiccup were valid and held some kind of merit, and its reason for existing was completely justified, regardless of its issues and flaws. Genuinely, the mere fact alone that I initially wrote a 408-page long manifesto detailing my experiences of my gradually declining mental health as a JToH Team developer and curator due to infighting and grudges being held between me and some staff, even if you disagree with the document, says a lot about the internal issues the game's dev/staff team has in how the game's management is ran. The fact that they also indirectly sent people to harass me via their method of damage control in the first place rather than trying to mitigate the drama is also a red flag that no one in their right mind should overlook, and some of the staff and certain community members still do this exact thing to this very day via defaming/slandering my name and reputation. Gee, ever wonder why I can't fully move on? It's because this kind of stuff still happens to me to this very day and I'm always dragged back into it as a consequence of that exact reason.

Me personally, I don’t see the need for the game to have a pride shop in the first place, as you can already express your support for pride month or your sexuality via what you buy on the Roblox Catalog or on the Discord. Does that make me homophobic/transphobic? Hell no, if anything, I support my gays and trans, I just have a different opinion regarding this situation. Staff going out of their way to punish players not wanting a pride shop in the game just because it feels too out of place or too politically correct is just a big turnoff imo and censors free speech.

@Lightsynth the jtoh doc was a huge inspiration for this video, and I likely would've made like a community post or something of me quitting if it wasn't for it (not saying I don't have any original issues, I've disliked modern jtoh since zone 6 but generally I wanted to translate some of the more important stuff into a video). To be fair, JToH has been getting more and more stale and felt like the devs were getting more and more lazy so we are basically forced to play events even if they are bad just because its “new content”.
Honestly, the big cause for the early towers needing revamps problem is the way that the developers shifted the tone of the game after the late era of KToH. The game was originally set as a *rage* game that at any cost will consistently try to throw you down and make you rage as that was the type of fun the game was going for. However, the game then took a turn and started focusing more on enjoyability and design and more and more which softened the entire rage aspect that the game had in the first place and shifted into a new style. Now, as more players play the game, the early areas have now become 'unfitting' unlike all the newer towers and the expectations that new players have, leading to noobies playing the game and getting mad as the early towers are now horribly outdated and don't live up to expectations of new players, leading to rage quitting. Although it's sad that we'll have to see the OG versions of early towers say goodbye soon, it is unfortunately necessary to help the game grow now.
To be honest it jtoh staff revamped all the older towers the entire community will go absolutely apeshit for who knows how long so I’d understand why they wouldn’t want to do that.

I was really determined with beating new towers until I had no one to progress with anymore, it felt odd and lonely But i persisted, and then i checked my playtime after about a month 77 HOURS. Probably rookie numbers for more experienced players, but I realized that spending 77 hours on playing towers that devastated my mental health wasn’t worth it.
holy shit this video completely changed my opinion on jtoh and now i feel like quitting too. Im grinding ToGF and i just keep getting rng fails, and now after watching this video it hit me. Why am i even playing this? Im not enjoying playing difficult unbalanced dogshit towers. like you can get far in a tower and just fail due to roblox physics being bad and lose all your progress and waste lets say an hour of your life that youre never going to get back. i could be doing so many other things in life and i just choose to play this stupid game literally made to make you rage. This could also impact relations with your close ones - just being more aggresive towards them (which in my case, sadly, i think it did) or just literally being more aggresive to literally any other person in the world. I think im still playing this game because im addicted, the reason i think so is because im not enjoying this but i just want to play it and i really dont know why. Like you described everything perfectly in the video, playing the game just to get a goddamn badge or a "congrats" from other people because you... beat an obby in a lego game? i purely quit jtoh because of "groomer allegations" that were baseless, which drove me into a breakdown, which just left me to leave, and even since then, Ive gotten harassed multiple times even when there's no proof i rly did at all, I watched the whole video, I perfectly agree with everything you stated. your channel was one of the only jtoh channels I found funny while my visit to jtoh was happening, and even though I dont play that hellhole of a game, I bet some people will miss your videos, I wish you luck for whatever endeavor you pursue next ^^
Most of what you said here was absolutely based, and you said a lot of things I've had in the back of my mind but no one seemed to talk about before. However, I have maintained interest in this game for very many years by simply... avoiding, and not caring. Just, ignore the discord! Ignore the staff! If you think it's so bad anyway, why are you even going there? People nowadays seem to be so intrinsically connected to their communities through their little Discord and others and I really don't see the point. The only things I've seen have been bad to come out of them. I think the main thing is moderation. Even if you want to join the Discord, you can just send a few messages here and there. You don't have to use it 5 hours a day, you don't have to get into arguments, you don't have to get into voice chats, you don't need to DM people, and most importantly you shouldn't be dating people on Discord in the first place. I know I sound like an old man, but I really mean it. Discord and toxic community interaction has only ruined people in my eyes. There are already the many people in game; do you really need to socialize that much with random ass people despite knowing how bad of a place it is to go further? Another thing is attention span; as seen in the video, Awarebruh is a TikTok user, and plays videos on the side. And I know the vast majority of this community uses Shorts, TikTok, or whatever else. Attention span is critical for this kind of game, yet many lack it. I enjoy modern towers similarly to classic ones, if they're executed well. My enjoyment of this game has definitely tapered off from the very beginning, but then it stopped declining. It plateaud. For the past years I have consistently been enjoying it the same amount. And it's all because of the mentality; playing and engaging in moderation, not caring about what's going on behind the scenes, having a good attention span, playing towers in a varied order instead of going for new hardests all the time, and avoiding the EXTREMELY hard towers. I also think there's a purpose to it all; it's not just cosmetics and GGs. You can take your obby knowledge and apply it to non obby games to break them or mess with people. And it feels good every time. When I inevitably retire from this game and slow down forever, it'll be because I have beaten every tower. And I won't try to waste my time going much further. I think past low horrific most towers are really a waste and unenjoyable. I don't care if the winter event is delayed, I don't care if the curators are few. I can do literally anything else in the meantime. I've generally just had a positive attitude towards it all. I had my fun, I learned so many Roblox tricks, and I am soon going to beat the last few towers remaining to end it all. I hope other people can learn to play in a more healthy and laid back way so we can all be happy.
its kind of the same for me. a few months ago, I beat ToAM, and ever since I just realized how awful the game and everything surrounding it can be. any new tower that I decide to try has such unnecessary punishment with pretty bad gameplay to go with it (togf, or like.. any terri is a great example of this), the challenges are no longer fun, the events can be fun for like 30 minutes at most, ect. the skillgap for certain things is very blurry (like tocr? what is that design and gameplay?? and how are you meant to know if your ready for the next difficulty?). the only reason I still sometimes play is because my friends do, but its honestly just better to step away from it. I only really actually started playing around a year ago, but nothing in this game is really worth doing. straying away from complaining about the game, I really do enjoy your videos. I 100% will stay if you make content that is not jtoh related, or even roblox.
I agree with basically everything in this video. Once I got to extreme difficulty, I realized that every single tower I'll do as a new hardest is hot garbage, and I just cannot bring myself to play jtoh anymore because of it. The staff team just feels lazy, and if you disagree with something that everyone in the community likes, you'll get and absurd amount of hate over an opinion. This game just doesn't feel the same as it once did because of new, copy and paste towers being added in as well.
I really agree with the modern jtoh explanation you gave. Starting from zone 5, every tower just feel the same. I currently have 90% of towers in ring 1-9 and zone 1-4 completed, yet I think I beat 2 towers in zone 5 and one in zone 6
JToH ends up being “something to waste time” with rather than an actual game i’m not an avid geometry dash player, so the endless repetition of jumps, in practicing and failure is tiring, and every new area releasing just to find it’s more of the same gameplay and client objects usage is also tiring slight nitpick but every tower is trying so hard to be an icon for their area with frame gimmicks and whatever that it makes new areas a complete nothingburger and i cant find myself caring for many of them individually, especially when they dont actually use any new and original gameplay

The first bit of JToH i ever experienced was Ring 1 and the Christmas 2020 event. This game, to me, had charm. There was something about this game that kept me coming back, even when I couldn't play the game for 2 years and was forced to watch videos on the towers that get ingame and be chronically online in the wiki (which has devolved into a cycle since I last saw it.) That was also the year I first played PTTT, my personal favorite fangame duology ever (the creator is a great guy, apg silly), and discovered what this game was truly about and the potential it held. A month into JToH, Zone 4 released. It was like no other to me to see this new content after I had regularly visited the now-deceased Frame Museum owned by the now-banned Ran_OutOfIdeas. Ring 8 was especially mysterious to me, since it marked where the buildup to the Great Inferno's finale ended... and where it actually began. Before Ring 9 released, I thought the lobby was going to be way more depressing in atmosphere than it actually was. Back in 2020, Soul-Crushing portals were actually threatening. ANY hidden portal, in actuality, was threatening, especially after I understood the difficulty chart. Then, slowly, it hit - this game's pretty bottom-of-the-barrel, and is being outmatched by everyone else. I agree with most, if not all, of the points mentioned here. I waited for someone to mention the Purgatorio problem and how it's only going to nail in the fact that you have to be good at the game to play the good towers, and I was waiting for someone to mention the game's shitty review system and the mindsets of VBs and EOs alike, both groups I generally do not like. One point I disagreed with is about the handling of out-of-game accusations, because if the person in question really DID do heinous things, then things should be done to keep them from further harming the community. In my opinion, Zone 4, Ring 8, and Halloween/Christmas 2020 were the peak of JToH. The game was as JToH as it could possibly be, and it should've stayed that way. But now, every builder is building nothing but the same, we get no normal towers, instead we get incomprehensible messes verified and reviewed by the incomprehensible mess that is the reviewers. Every tower has to have 200,000 client objects and photorealistic design, and non-VBs who will never, ever build that good should give up trying. I miss when it seemed like anybody could build a tower and get it ingame. I miss watching myfart be the first person to complete ToCP, I miss building my own towers with a *realistic* passing score to attain, instead of one that seems impossible. You can rest assured that I will still play, not as a fan, but an activist. I'll do the song and dance again and again until I return to the dust I was made from. Tbh they should revamp the old areas and just keep artifacts like ToH or ToSP, basically keep the good classic towers and revamp the old bad ones cuz the only reason I even continued is cuz I heard it gets better what if I didn't hear that? I wouldn't have gave the game a second chance also I completely agree on the towers feeling the same whenever I fail I just want to leave cuz it's not worth it I feel like the curators should focus more on enjoyability and creativity and they should also try to choose tower that feel different from each other ring 9 sc's is a somewhat good example, they all feel different and can be distinguished, also zone 5 is another good example the towers feel so different from each other the only towers that feel like they are in the same area is the medium and the killbricks spam challenging tower, the rest of the towers are different. A good thing is that they are hiring new staff member and they should cuz there are a bunch of people who can spend a lot of time developing so areas can be released faster and can look better. i joined jtoh somewhere in 2020. for about 2 years i have been passionately playing it: making towers, progressing in the game, beating my first sc, trying to get all of the items. then the 2023-2024 ive been playing much rarer, on and off. usually just joined for the events, or when i got sudden motivation/urge to complete a sc. now it kinda just feels boring. the new zones dont matter to me, i mostly just watch ademeires video and say "oh cool", neither do i participate in any of the events. last motivation to keep playing the game were scs, but they required much more patience and passion to complete, which i didnt have at the time (somewhere in 2023) jtoh was also primary game i played on roblox, along with obby creator or tower creator. now im not even interested in obbies anymore... compared to you, i never made some announcement or a video about it. i didnt tell anyone directly that "i quit". mostly because i had the idea that i can get sudden motivation to continue playing, it wont be really nice to quit, then return to play for a week, then be gone. i myself didnt really experience much toxicity in jtoh discord, mostly because i wasnt really active there. but i found toxicity in tower creator discord, where i was spending most of my time. i always liked the classic tower design with studs and stuff, but i never looked from a perspective of a new player. compare modern roblox games to ring 1. for a new player, it's gonna look like shitty game from 2018 (because this is exactly that) new rings dont solve the issue either, they are locked behind hours of playtime. atos definitely did better with this one. this video explains current state of jtoh so well. i mean it's still just an opinion, but it's the best one i've heard so far.
AwareBruh is truly aware about all the issues, and i agree for everything except the classic tower one but i get your point, great video btw now i like jokes fangames a bit more than jtoh, like tower of showers, the community is an overall better place and you can build whatever comes to your mind and it will probably be whitelisted, also talking about fangames there is another big issue with these, like more people are making fangames but they all look the same and that sucks honestly.
As someone who quitted a while ago and overall had a pretty neutral stay while playing the game/interacting with others, I still find it hard to not agree with many points here. I left on my own accord yes, but I felt like I really didn't want to as I still wanted to continue playing, yet there are just so many factors that keep me away from doing so, including some featured in this video.
This video felt like a reality check to me. Even if I like the classic towers, the modern JToH is fucking horrible. These towers FEEL THE SAME, LOOK THE SAME, and PLAY THE SAME. Nothing stands out anymore apart from very few cases where someone actually puts fucking effort into a tower (which never happens btw). This game feels so soulless now. It feels like someone is rebuilding the same tower over and over again with slightly different gp ideas and good design. I DON'T CARE ABOUT NO DESIGN. If a creator wants me to say their tower is good, MAKE UNIQUE AND GOOD GAMEPLAY. The staff team also sucks ass now. No one's motivated to run this game anymore. The people that moderate the game are either too lazy to care about it, or have a wife and 56 kids with a 9-5 job five days a week so they barely have time to do anything about JToH. It's a mess that no one cares about, and that's one of the big reasons why there has been no good updates. I still think this game's immaculate just becuase of shit like Ring 7 or Zone 4, but DAMN is the current state of JToH bad. sorry for the rant btw
i agree. 90% of towers from the last two zones have the same boring, uninspired gameplay, and i think it’s because of the current review system. everyone builds the exact same type of gameplay because they know it’ll pass, and the curators don’t encourage builders to experiment.
- goodbye, i quit too a few weeks ago. i’ll miss you doing funny jtoh content but i’ll still stop by for your new content as i like your video style a lot. and i agree, jtoh is kinda meh for me now with 1/3 of the game being either ehh or just plain bad. MY THOUGHTS ON EARLY-GAME JTOH: it leaved a desperate mark on past me when i had a sudden realization of how big 1/3 of the game is. i soon thought: “wait… if 1/3 of the game sucks… and most of the 1/3 are in the early rings… THAT LEAVES A TERRIBLE IMPRESSION ON JTOH.” imagine a newbie coming in jtoh with decent hopes for the game, only for their hopes to be shattered when they figure out a whopping 1/3 OF THE GAME SUCKS, WITH MOST OF THE BAD PART TAKING PLACE IN THE EARLY RINGS. they would most likely quit soon after that. and when they find out about the jtoh community, it would add insult to injury to them. after i had that realization about 1/3 of jtoh sucking, i began to realize that the game wasn’t really balanced at all and that having tower slop like ring 3 next to more effortful towers in the later zones sucks for the future players trying to get into the game and quitting the game due to the areas right after purgatorio just being boring, with the good towers being introduced way later in the game. an overall beginning of a game should be a good, easy, and overall smooth part, not a single good tutorial area followed by tower slop. and a good game overall should have the good gameplay kinda spread out, (with some peaks of gameplay along the way if they want) not have it pushed back in the later areas and being surrounded by slop that can and will impact the player’s POV of the game (if their standards aren’t lowered). and if you’re wondering how to fix this, this video explains it perfectly. also, i thank you for including what i think is a major flaw in jtoh. i appreciate it a lot. -
Some points to add on: Jtoh being money hungry - I know every single game is money hungry, but a game with a fanbase like jtoh will go out of their way and buy everything. I am one of those people, and I regret it. The staff team already gets money from premium payouts. There is no need to buy 800 robux for brownie points. I like to use that term due to it being very similar to tickets. Tickets are completely useless after buying the rock. So if you have the rock, VIP is useless. Don't even get me started on VM. It would be fair if it was 1000 robux. 5000 robux seems like a ripoff. That's because it is. Why buy a flying tool that acts as a boost, when you can get an event item which is, albeit, less convenient, and gets the job done? Jtoh staff management - Zone 9 just released, and its very buggy. I cannot join it without crashing or extreme lag. A few people in the staff team are optimizing zone 9. Juke is working on Biotech, for more than 6 months. There are curators looking at towers, people adding useless stuff like shops, people working on challenges, and a bunch of people working on Purgatorio. I think that the Jtoh team should be focused on one think instead of overworking themselves. Lets say they are working on area. Once it gets announced, tower submissions are open. Each curator should grade it harshly. There should be no tower with the same gimmick (creativity). Every tower must have a playtester (if the tower is sc, they should hire a top obbyist and not use noclip. That is what caused bad scs to be in the game). For design, the design has to be unique to the tower. ToNN is a great example of 5/5 design. Make sure every tower builder's name is hidden to prevent bias. Neodymious pointed this out best in his 75 things that annoy me about jtoh video (the one about how Clloy got his tower in game first thing whilst there are other towers that never got the spotlight they deserved.) After a certain period of time, tower submissions would be shut down. The team will then build the lobby, but will be given a part limit to decrease lag. The towers will be installed. Then there will be a bugtesting period, where most of the team will bugtest the towers. Then, they will make final touches before releasing the area. There will be no puzzles, as that will ruin the experience. One final touch. Remove challenges. They do absolutely nothing. If you want your tower to be in game and not stay in the whitelist, they will make a dump subrealm like lost river. Make items a secret.
I feel like the main issues about the are the community and the staff. the staff just kinda hold onto old stuff people have done and judge them based off that. I also think that the staff genuinely just don’t care enough about their community/player base. Removing suggestions was quite possibly the worst thing they did as that was the only way they could get player input into how to improve their game The community speaks for itself.

If I commit murders outside of the US, you wouldn't expect the US to just ignore that and expect me to be a good citizen. 6. 10:36 This is how societies and communities are run. Why is fascism bad? Because society considers it to be bad. It's natural for "governments" (the devs) to enforce the beliefs of the populus. 7. Let people argue. It's how people sort themselves out. It's only when people take it too far or don't want to change their minds that it becomes a problem. 8. 12:02 I don't see the problem. I would do that if I were truly proud of my work. It's normal for people to be afraid of what others think of them, and if it takes some discord searches to find out, most would take the opportunity. 9. I find harder towers pretty fun. I can't say anything for horrific-unreal towers though 10. I kind of felt from your videos that you didn't really like jtoh. You definitely did the right thing by leaving if you don't enjoy the game.

People in the comments have said they've been banned for opinions on trans people on discords, which I think in general shouldn't happen. You are so right. I really do enjoy your content and stuff and it's extremely okay that you leave this doo doo game. I am personally getting bored of doing dam sc towers, they also feel a dam waste of time. Yesterday I beat a very punishing sc in atos and the tower itself is 30-40 mins long flawless, failing at an outside just demotivated me and that just felt a DAM WASTE OF TIME. Im just tired of this too, i recently have been playing other games besides jtoh and the community itself us also kinda (kinda) bad in my opinion, i'm not even in the jtoh discord! I have disagrees and agrees with your problems with JToH the main ones i agree with is the modern towers they look exactly the same minus the colors. for ring 1 i think they could revamp it or completely move it to a "ring 1.5" but oh well time to work on the next weekly challenge

@@natorlenNah they are 100% right the first 6 rings have aged terribly and give such a bad first impression for the game. Even something like Forgotten Ridge minus a few terrible towers is a better starting point just because of how it focuses more on skill instead of traps and bad gimmicks.
I agree with you, classic towers are bad, dumb and annoying, but I dont agree with the your statement that JToH staff should delete ring 1 and replace it with Garden of Ëeshol. Ring one is a part of this game. And they shouldnt delete it cuz "BAD TOWER BAD RING!1!!1". Also why should they delete Tower of Hecc, it is the first tower in the entire game. It should not get a revamp cuz it is good as it is now. Just because some beginners or just people who stumble upon this game cant beat it does not mean it is bad. Also the unindicated traps can be memorized easily you just have to remember where they are. Plus, just because there are tightropes and spinning platforms it does not mean the tower is bad. ToTS was the first tower to be (almost) fully purist, ToIE is the first tower to have x-pushers and be a collab and ToH is the first tower (wow no shit sherlock). Also towers like ToR, ToM and ToA are bad, and I know it, but don't hate on ring 1 towers just because you cannot do a jump or a tightrope.
jtoh obviously isn’t a perfect game, and there’s still a lot of room for improvement, and this video did a good job of pointing out what needs to be done. jtoh is definitely out of its prime, but i don’t think it’s lost to the point of no return yet. we the community need to accept that jtoh has its downsides and work together to fix them instead of ignoring them or just complaining without doing anything about it.
Issue 1 and 4 are so true it’s genuinely ruining the game, although idk how they can fix the early bad towers, if they do revamp/update some of the bad towers, it will be difficult to make it still feel classic and fit inside the area, unless if they just revamp every older tower in the area, which will be tedious.

The lack of good and enjoyable jtoh content has made me give in to playing boring Roblox simulators lmao (but I still occasionally play some good games, like Item Asylum). Been playing jtoh since May 2022, and it was interesting to get into, but it just started to become more dry. Either that or I suck lol (only being able to beat a few remorseless towers, but struggles on most challengings).

as a specimen playing this funny tower game on and off since late 2018, at one point the game feels like it abandoned the aspect of towers trying to be genuine challenges and started to opt for more traditional platformer aspects which from what i know goes against what a lot of people want, it being genuine challenge and acomplishment, of thats really only present in some remorseless towers and soul-crushings in modern zones which sometimes is executed very well (cough cough ToTD cough), but 90% of the time they are extremely forgettable theres only been a couple towers i genuinally like in each new zone (mostly being rem+) and it seems like the game isn't going to focus on these harder towers that much. and honestly as a long-time player yeah i completely agree with the first few rings needing to be revamped or atleast have alternatives

i do actually agree with a lot of the stuff in this video though there's a few things i should mention:
- the first point about the game currently being beginner unfriendly is ABSOLUTELY true; a few of my friends have dropped the game even at tower of annoyingly simple trials since it's still very much possible to lose significant progress, and of course there's the classic beginner trap of just beelining to citadel of laptop splitting, failing the jump onto the spinner and then just droppign the game, when purgatorio releases the rest of the game will actually be restricted from newcomers, being only unlocked when enough progress is made in purgatorio, it's possible i may go for further than that and possibly restricting the player from playing towers too far outside their difficulty (however i think that purgatorio may solve the issue of running to CoLS and giving up)
- continuing from that, i also believe we should make significant changes to early towers, to make them enjoyable and remove most if not all of the "random trap" aspect of classic gameplay as it is an identity that the game no longer follows and only serves to frustrate new players, i don't think towers would be completely remade but they could receive massive updates like how i updated ToWEL ~2 years after its release to improve it, and how tower of traps was updated but for a reason i don't really know about it was reverted? there's also the ToWER update that i also did but i (or possibly another developer without communication) reverted it back to the original version, so it's possible i may reimplement the updated version, possibly toning down on the newer mechanics a bit
- the primary reason that we stopped doing full-scale events for now is because they always have ended up pulling development time away from the rest of the game, it's nowhere near as bad as like 2 years ago but i hope that the introduction of main story content would be a worthy replacement
- i'm also kinda iffy on the idea of keeping reasons on why we demote/ban someone a secret now that you brought it up, i think part of it might have been that we were too worried it would drive the community to harass people to the ends of the earth but it seems like with punky's ban we didn't really announce to anyone that she groomed a minor, although i don't remember much about the situation as investigating the case was a draining task and i struggled to come to terms with the fact that someone who was once a good friend of mine had been a groomer
- i only mildly agree with the point about banning people for their political opinions; i don't mind the presence of people having a different opinion than mine and being conservative, but i draw the line whenever hating trans/gay people comes to mind; i feel like that is where the line is crossed from being a harmless opinion to almost bigotry, and usually the people we have banned have acted on their beliefs and attacked other people for being trans or otherwise a part of the lgbtq umbrella, overall a part of the reason that there is such a strict rule against homophobia and transphobia is that i want the place to feel as comfortable and inclusive as it can be for people; i'm also not actually sure if we do actually permaban people for having such an opinion, we've usually only temp banned in the past for it while only permabanning if they keep on harrassing
- continuing from the above since the paragraph's grown fat, we wouldn't actually ban wllsknwlls for conservative opinions; the only time we would ban would be if he actually went out and attacked someone for their identity or sexuality
- i am a bit concerned about curator standards now; while it does feel like you may be exaggerating a bit with zone 6's mechanical variety there's definitely some merit to it; it's not good for the game for sloptowers to be favored over actually creative towers
- not mentioned in the video but; i've been iffy on the custom mechanic rule (not calling them CCOs because the term is misleading) basically ever since the start and have considered removing it many times in the past because of how it unnecessarily restricts people to just the kit, while a lot of the reasons in favor of the rule are stuff that would normally qualify a tower as bad anyways (oversaturation of mechanics is just bad design, custom scripts can be as buggy as any other client object contraption, etc.), i've heard from a good amount of friends who were scripters that they wish they could make a tower using their scripting skills but they don't have the coveted verified builder role so they can't really do anything about it, and most importantly i don't think i would even be making any more towers beyond like tower of deep darkness if i didn't have the special privilege of being owner which is also pretty telling
- (this doesn't really count as you did update on it already but i just wanted to clarify this a bit more as well) monodoe did indeed to a lot more than just have an opinion, he's done some harassment in the past and in fact just today he pulled up in ring 1 with friends like it was the wild hunt from limbus company and harassed me while i was watching a friend play the game while also messing around
there's also a few more points but i left them out since array had said a few things that i also had in mind
overall, i don't want the game and community to be unfriendly and i want to try and take steps to bring it out of the predicament it has fallen into this year

i'm glad you liked some of my points, but I really do think that rings 1-6 need some serious revamps. AToS does this all the time and the game is much more enjoyable to progress through than jtoh currently. Also idk if this is still the case, but banning severity in the discord is much more in favor towards the lgbtq. i used to see people post racist jokes and be let off without warnings, but others posting edgy stuff about the lgbtq and being banned. Again idk if this is still the case but i definitely think you guys should be much more consistent with what constitutes as hate speech and what's ban/warn worthy. As a relatively new jtoh player coming from 2022, this game has definitely been a phenomenon to see. The early ktoh rings are extremely outdated and the latest zones kind of blend in. I am not even in the discord because I KNOW there is a lot of drama over there. Doing any sc towers feels like a waste of time and that comes from someone who's beaten only one of them. Maybe this game will have a redemption, but with the subrealm obsession the game is going through rn, I doubt it will be this year 😭

to give the game some credit, the w1 subrealms at least are being added for lore reasons (guardian subrealms for TFS eventually). revamping earlier areas is very necessary though, and moving the old rings 1-6 to some sort of legacy area (with an equivalent elevator secret in R1:R) would be a good compromise.

i understand thinking discrimination bans could be a slippery slope, but it's obvious you've never been harassed online based on a minority status before. i think that wllsknwlls shouldn't be banned, as being conservative ≠ being a bigot, however monodoe's seems more justified. granted, i'm (obviously) biased, and i think it shouldn't be a permanent or GAME ban, perhaps just revoking in game chat privileges and a ban from the discord would be better.

- Modern jtoh is so mind numblingly boring, trying to get through a modern area without leaving or giving up is so hard because it’s just the same stuff and it’s just boring. Also towers with a stupid amount of dialog are very annoying cause me personally, I could not care less about the story, I just want a fun challenging tower to complete, that’s what the game is about.
- what’s said about the staff team is definitely correct, they’re just too busy now to actively work on the game and instead of juke or other higher staff members taking action, they aren’t doing anything which is bad for a game like jtoh that needs updates to thrive. It’s good they’re finally getting new staff now, hoping that it actually works out and the game gets updates (also I’m so annoyed about events being cancelled, they’re the last pillar of jtoh that make the game fun, celebrating a holiday, playing brand new challenges which are (mostly) really fun and well made and then fighting a big challenging boss is just phenomenal, the fact they’re basically being killed is so sad, I don’t believe it’ll make modern areas better.
- I haven’t been at early game jtoh in 6 years so I can’t speak too much on this point, I really don’t want the towers to be changed though, the traps and the frustrating gameplay was what made the game special and fun, it feels rewarding to finally do it. The point made about the legacy event replay is a good one but if they’re gonna do any changes to it, I’d just remove unindicated traps and call it at that. These towers are old and changing them majorly will ruin the game imo
- curator system is horrible, it’s practically controlled by 1 mod with a review from another curator every now and then, staff need more control over reviews and making sure curators are doing good at their job (also i think they should be paid robux is they aren’t already, they’re providing a service for the devs and that should be payable). They just need to hire new people and do checks or curator reviews to see if they’re doing a good job, if not, tell them how they can improve (also they need to stop leaving tower unreviewed for months)
- couldn’t agree more, I had this series called jtoh news on my channel and I had to stop it since the devs are so unclear about what is going on and I don’t wanna be chronically active on jtoh so I’m always out of the loop. transparency benefits everyone and leaving updates and teasers empty for months gives us nothing to look forward too, also devs if you are reading this, please stop showing game changing stuff in a jtoh discussion or a tower dev message that’s impossible to find
- difficulty polls and suggestions were great, their removal is stupid

- the JToH community is cool to talk to in game, I’ve met a lot of chill people through it, I will say it was a lot easier to make friends and talk to ppl back then since it was smaller and easier to talk with ppl, it’s still very much possible though (seriously you should try it out, hop in a server and talk to someone about the game)
- I don’t touch the discord anymore, I used to be active in vcs but a lot ppl in there now I just can’t really relate to, I’ve found a friend group of ppl and have moved on basically, in the actual server though I never speak, I think I only have like 7k messages or something and I’ve been in the server since the 7th day of its creation so I just don’t even wanna try and speak there, people will try to bring others down for anything, we all need to be more respectful and kind to each other, what you say about false allegations is absolute facts

I like the way Atos approaches the beginner problem, they frequently update the earlier areas and optimizes everything in a way that beginners won't leave the second they enter the game. Since purgatorio is coming soon, new players will 100% leave the game once they get access to ring 1 since their first impression was already good, but gets shattered by the abysmal quality of the towers there.

The JToH community I feel is undeniably degenerate, Roblox and other similar communities to JToH like GD are bound to have people who will dedicate themselves to these games and make these places comprised of many unhealthy individuals who feel entitled to them. The team behind JToH isn't really well put together and do whatever dumb decisions you mentioned that either waste time or are counterproductive to the player experience and overall quality to the game. I especially agree with your point that old towers are forever cemented in there respective areas whether or not they are even slightly worth playing or the creator even cares about them anymore. Games like AToS have overall better quality control and are easier to get into as a new player in my opinion, but still fundamentally run into the same problems because they aren't making the game any different than how JToH usually does. GD also has this issue somewhat where levels in gauntlets that can be very different in quality are handpicked by the games creator once and there's not much people can do to change anything. Same with GD curators who the community disagrees with or criticizes constantly for there being no proper, unbiased, and fair way to rate levels.
With JToH I think the result of curation isn't as bad, many modern towers and even towers the later rings hold up very well and I don't see problems on gameplay too much. Besides, "modern" can include different styles, and not just whatever cool client object contraption is implemented, it's why CoHaD hasn't aged poorly. If you are one to be able to handle the punishment and difficulty of towers, then creative and well built towers shouldn't be scolded too harshly. For harder towers that by nature aren't fun because grinding JToH isn't really fun, sure, though for non soul crushing towers that weren't very early parts of the game, they can still be very enjoyable. I don't see the complaint of getting mad at one mechanic making the experience feel less original, as most towers are very unique and distinguishable. I personally really enjoy most well built JToH towers and will only get mad at gameplay elements if it is incredible apparent how unfair or overlooked it is, but for most good gameplay this isn't that true. There just isn't enough people willing to build, curate, or just manage JToH as a whole, since the veterans of the community will be fizzling out. An example being Gammator who is a shame isn't the straight up creator of the game while Juke is not far off from being a figure head who occasionally adds new rules in the discord on how to ban people for being racist than make more than 1 tower per 5 years, like with Tower of Oblivion (incredibly overhyped with no quality control and overall a mediocre tower). Even CoHaD was a massive project originally started by Juke but was only made amazing by the second half and all the creativity that went into it from others who worked on it. I've been inactive in the JToH server for at least a year so I'm not the most knowledgeable and there's things I can't know for myself, but I can make observations and respect those who still care about the game and make meaningful contributions.
When you really ask yourself on paper what makes JToH fun there's many things that don't line up. The curve for beginners is horrible, the first 3 zones and first 6 rings aren't generally fun almost like the quality gets exponentially better past zone 3 and ring 6. Updates take forever. You get little reward for beating harder towers unless you are a recognized in the community or are deeply motivated. And the community is expectedly very asinine. What really confuses me though is even with all this people will still continue to play the game because once somebody gets past that initial curve of difficulty its very easy to continue until you reach a point that towers are so few in number and so little in incentive. The game fosters a certain niche that captivates people, especially since Roblox obstacle courses have been around forever and JToH gives such a different perspective. It's just so disappointing, because at a certain point in peoples lives JToH can be very fun but only during that certain period and people quitting usually never do without a sour impression of the game. It had so potential to be more than what it currently is and honestly could still change for the better but will new people or even the old ones miraculously fix these issues, I don't know. I will still enjoy JToH for what I believe it's good at like the gameplay and the creativity that still comes out of such a simple concept, but I did not write this because I want to change anybody's mind on why they might hate the game, only to share what I've experienced on one of the only Roblox games that I still come back to.

I agree with most of the video honestly, JToH after 2020/2021 kinda started to be a bit less enjoyable and a lot of the things mentioned in the video are the reasons why. My current main issue with the game is the lack of new staff. We need more curators so that we see more diverse towers in the game and we definitely need even more new devs. Instead of cancelling the current event format, they could've just made a dedicated event team whose only purpose is to work on events, but instead they went the easy route, just like they did with monthly challenges. New developers would bring new life into the game so I don't understand why they aren't hiring more devs or restructuring the staff team as a whole. It's so obvious that they're trying to bite off more than they can chew, especially when you look at how the update frequency has lowered over the past few years and I think that's the case because there's simply not enough staff. And as ambitions rise and new areas get even harder to work on, I wouldn't be surprised if they cancelled another fun part of JToH. Events have always been something to look forward to each year, they brought the community together and they always made the end of the year for the game so memorable. I understand that they did it because it hinders the development process, but as I said earlier why can't they make a separate team for that. I love so many things about this game and I hate seeing those things slowly get replaced or removed, so I hope the staff team actually does something instead of sticking to the same format. To me it feels like they fear change and it's very apparent when you compare a random z5 or z6 tower with z8 and see how barely anything has changed over the past few years. It sucks that you're quitting JToH, because you have so much potential in the content creation scene, but I can fully understand why you're quitting, I've thought of doing the same multiple times for the same exact reasons. I wish you the best of luck on whatever you'll be doing next.

This is kinda the same thing why i don't play JToH anymore. The only thing that keeps me up is trying to a soul-crushing tower that i like. But the problem is that a majority of the towers nowadays just feels bland, it may look cool in design, or in gameplay, but it just doesn't feel enjoyable. One thing i liked about the KToH era was the simplicity, as it was just more fun to sightread (excluding traps) and didn't feel like a chore everytime you saw a puzzle coming ahead.
I definitely won't quit obbying as a whole, as i still find some enjoyment in it, but JToH is going down rock-bottom at this point.

Honestly, I believe that a total revamp of ring 1 is needed. Most people would probably disagree but generally most of the towers in the beginning areas are so awful and instantly turn away new players for… the exact reasons you said. Stupid traps and unfun/overly punishing gameplay. Purgatorio will not fix this, if anything it could make it worse by giving a false illusion of what the towers in earlier areas will be like.
And yeah, the community is awful, that goes without saying. Everyone has a huge ego and acts super elitist. I really feel like this culture makes it harder for new builders to get noticed as well which is really unfortunate. Honestly I think jtoh discussion is just genuinely better than tower dev, because that’s where most of these people reside.

Couldn't have agreed any more on the problems and issues presented in this video, especially after reading all of the comments below and watching RealAheeto's "Dark Side of JToH" video.
I covered most of the exact same issues you had in the document I wrote 1 year and 2 1/2 months ago, and while I do regret some things I said, especially from being groomed/manipulated by Punky herself alongside Decima into painting them in an innocent light, I still think some of the points made in it outside of that major hiccup were valid and held some kind of merit, and its reason for existing was completely justified, regardless of its issues and flaws.
Genuinely, the mere fact alone that I initially wrote a 408-page long manifesto detailing my experiences of my gradually declining mental health as a JToH Team developer and curator due to infighting and grudges being held between me and some staff, even if you disagree with the document, says a lot about the internal issues the game's dev/staff team has in how the game's management is ran. The fact that they also indirectly sent people to harass me via their method of damage control in the first place rather than trying to mitigate the drama is also a red flag that no one in their right mind should overlook, and some of the staff and certain community members still do this exact thing to this very day via defaming/slandering my name and reputation.
Gee, ever wonder why I can't fully move on? It's because this kind of stuff still happens to me to this very day and I'm always dragged back into it as a consequence of that exact reason.

Me personally, I don’t see the need for the game to have a pride shop in the first place, as you can already express your support for pride month or your sexuality via what you buy on the Roblox Catalog or on the Discord. I stopped using anti-trans slurs publicly, no reason for it and it promotes hate speech. I don’t hate trans people but I don’t particularly agree with their ideology. To be fair, JToH has been getting more and more stale and felt like the devs were getting more and more lazy so we are basically forced to play events even if they are bad just because its “new content”.
Honestly, the big cause for the early towers needing revamps problem is the way that the developers shifted the tone of the game after the late era of KToH. The game was originally set as a *rage* game that at any cost will consistently try to throw you down and make you rage as that was the type of fun the game was going for. However, the game then took a turn and started focusing more on enjoyability and design and more and more which softened the entire rage aspect that the game had in the first place and shifted into a new style. Now, as more players play the game, the early areas have now become 'unfitting' unlike all the newer towers and the expectations that new players have, leading to noobies playing the game and getting mad as the early towers are now horribly outdated and don't live up to expectations of new players, leading to rage quitting. Although it's sad that we'll have to see the OG versions of early towers say goodbye soon, it is unfortunately necessary to help the game grow now.
To be honest it jtoh staff revamped all the older towers the entire community will go absolutely apeshit for who knows how long so I’d understand why they wouldn’t want to do that.

holy shit this video completely changed my opinion on jtoh and now i feel like quitting too. Im grinding ToGF and i just keep getting rng fails, and now after watching this video it hit me. Why am i even playing this? Im not enjoying playing difficult unbalanced dogshit towers. like you can get far in a tower and just fail due to roblox physics being bad and lose all your progress and waste lets say an hour of your life that youre never going to get back. i could be doing so many other things in life and i just choose to play this stupid game literally made to make you rage. This could also impact relations with your close ones - just being more aggresive towards them (which in my case, sadly, i think it did) or just literally being more aggresive to literally any other person in the world. I think im still playing this game because im addicted, the reason i think so is because im not enjoying this but i just want to play it and i really dont know why. Like you described everything perfectly in the video, playing the game just to get a goddamn badge or a "congrats" from other people because you... beat an obby in a lego game? Most of what you said here was absolutely based, and you said a lot of things I've had in the back of my mind but no one seemed to talk about before.
However, I have maintained interest in this game for very many years by simply... avoiding, and not caring.
Just, ignore the discord! Ignore the staff! If you think it's so bad anyway, why are you even going there?
People nowadays seem to be so intrinsically connected to their communities through their little Discord and others and I really don't see the point. The only things I've seen have been bad to come out of them.
I think the main thing is moderation. Even if you want to join the Discord, you can just send a few messages here and there. You don't have to use it 5 hours a day, you don't have to get into arguments, you don't have to get into voice chats, you don't need to DM people, and most importantly you shouldn't be dating people on Discord in the first place.
I know I sound like an old man, but I really mean it. Discord and toxic community interaction has only ruined people in my eyes.
There are already the many people in game; do you really need to socialize that much with random ass people despite knowing how bad of a place it is to go further?
Another thing is attention span; as seen in the video, Awarebruh is a TikTok user, and plays videos on the side. And I know the vast majority of this community uses Shorts, TikTok, or whatever else. Attention span is critical for this kind of game, yet many lack it.
I enjoy modern towers similarly to classic ones, if they're executed well.
My enjoyment of this game has definitely tapered off from the very beginning, but then it stopped declining. It plateaud. For the past years I have consistently been enjoying it the same amount.
And it's all because of the mentality; playing and engaging in moderation, not caring about what's going on behind the scenes, having a good attention span, playing towers in a varied order instead of going for new hardests all the time, and avoiding the EXTREMELY hard towers.
I also think there's a purpose to it all; it's not just cosmetics and GGs. You can take your obby knowledge and apply it to non obby games to break them or mess with people. And it feels good every time.
When I inevitably retire from this game and slow down forever, it'll be because I have beaten every tower. And I won't try to waste my time going much further. I think past low horrific most towers are really a waste and unenjoyable.
I don't care if the winter event is delayed, I don't care if the curators are few. I can do literally anything else in the meantime.
I've generally just had a positive attitude towards it all. I had my fun, I learned so many Roblox tricks, and I am soon going to beat the last few towers remaining to end it all.
I hope other people can learn to play in a more healthy and laid back way so we can all be happy.

its kind of the same for me. a few months ago, I beat ToAM, and ever since I just realized how awful the game and everything surrounding it can be. any new tower that I decide to try has such unnecessary punishment with pretty bad gameplay to go with it (togf, or like.. any terri is a great example of this), the challenges are no longer fun, the events can be fun for like 30 minutes at most, ect. the skillgap for certain things is very blurry (like tocr? what is that design and gameplay?? and how are you meant to know if your ready for the next difficulty?). the only reason I still sometimes play is because my friends do, but its honestly just better to step away from it. I only really actually started playing around a year ago, but nothing in this game is really worth doing.

I agree with basically everything in this video. Once I got to extreme difficulty, I realized that every single tower I'll do as a new hardest is hot garbage, and I just cannot bring myself to play jtoh anymore because of it. The staff team just feels lazy, and if you disagree with something that everyone in the community likes, you'll get and absurd amount of hate over an opinion. This game just doesn't feel the same as it once did because of new, copy and paste towers being added in as well.
I really agree with the modern jtoh explanation you gave. Starting from zone 5, every tower just feel the same. I currently have 90% of towers in ring 1-9 and zone 1-4 completed, yet I think I beat 2 towers in zone 5 and one in zone 6

i’m not an avid geometry dash player, so the endless repetition of jumps, in practicing and failure is tiring, and every new area releasing just to find it’s more of the same gameplay and client objects usage is also tiring
slight nitpick but every tower is trying so hard to be an icon for their area with frame gimmicks and whatever that it makes new areas a complete nothingburger and i cant find myself caring for many of them individually, especially when they dont actually use any new and original gameplay

I joined this game at the ass end of 2020. The first bit of JToH i ever experienced was Ring 1 and the Christmas 2020 event. This game, to me, had charm. There was something about this game that kept me coming back, even when I couldn't play the game for 2 years and was forced to watch videos on the towers that get ingame and be chronically online in the wiki (which has devolved into a cycle since I last saw it.)
That was also the year I first played PTTT, my personal favorite fangame duology ever (the creator is a great guy, apg silly), and discovered what this game was truly about and the potential it held.
A month into JToH, Zone 4 released. It was like no other to me to see this new content after I had regularly visited the now-deceased Frame Museum owned by the now-banned Ran_OutOfIdeas. Ring 8 was especially mysterious to me, since it marked where the buildup to the Great Inferno's finale ended... and where it actually began. Before Ring 9 released, I thought the lobby was going to be way more depressing in atmosphere than it actually was.
Back in 2020, Soul-Crushing portals were actually threatening. ANY hidden portal, in actuality, was threatening, especially after I understood the difficulty chart.
Then, slowly, it hit - this game's pretty bottom-of-the-barrel, and is being outmatched by everyone else.
I agree with most, if not all, of the points mentioned here. I waited for someone to mention the Purgatorio problem and how it's only going to nail in the fact that you have to be good at the game to play the good towers, and I was waiting for someone to mention the game's shitty review system and the mindsets of VBs and EOs alike, both groups I generally do not like. One point I disagreed with is about the handling of out-of-game accusations, because if the person in question really DID do heinous things, then things should be done to keep them from further harming the community. In my opinion, Zone 4, Ring 8, and Halloween/Christmas 2020 were the peak of JToH. The game was as JToH as it could possibly be, and it should've stayed that way. But now, every builder is building nothing but the same, we get no normal towers, instead we get incomprehensible messes verified and reviewed by the incomprehensible mess that is the reviewers. Every tower has to have 200,000 client objects and photorealistic design, and non-VBs who will never, ever build that good should give up trying. I miss when it seemed like anybody could build a tower and get it ingame. I miss watching myfart be the first person to complete ToCP, I miss building my own towers with a *realistic* passing score to attain, instead of one that seems impossible.
You can rest assured that I will still play, not as a fan, but an activist. I'll do the song and dance again and again until I return to the dust I was made from. Thank you for the video, it sums up everything.

Tbh they should revamp the old areas and just keep artifacts like ToH or ToSP, basically keep the good classic towers and revamp the old bad ones cuz the only reason I even continued is cuz I heard it gets better what if I didn't hear that? I wouldn't have gave the game a second chance also I completely agree on the towers feeling the same whenever I fail I just want to leave cuz it's not worth it I feel like the curators should focus more on enjoyability and creativity and they should also try to choose tower that feel different from each other ring 9 sc's is a somewhat good example, they all feel different and can be distinguished, also zone 5 is another good example the towers feel so different from each other the only towers that feel like they are in the same area is the medium and the killbricks spam challenging tower, the rest of the towers are different. This video alone made you one of the most based people (formerly) in this community in my opinion. I agree with every single point you've made, and it's something I've been thinking about ever since SoDD revamp got ingame.
i joined jtoh somewhere in 2020. for about 2 years i have been passionately playing it: making towers, progressing in the game, beating my first sc, trying to get all of the items.
then the 2023-2024 ive been playing much rarer, on and off. usually just joined for the events, or when i got sudden motivation/urge to complete a sc.
now it kinda just feels boring. the new zones dont matter to me, i mostly just watch ademeires video and say "oh cool", neither do i participate in any of the events.
last motivation to keep playing the game were scs, but they required much more patience and passion to complete, which i didnt have at the time (somewhere in 2023)
jtoh was also primary game i played on roblox, along with obby creator or tower creator. now im not even interested in obbies anymore...
compared to you, i never made some announcement or a video about it. i didnt tell anyone directly that "i quit". mostly because i had the idea that i can get sudden motivation to continue playing, it wont be really nice to quit, then return to play for a week, then be gone.
i myself didnt really experience much toxicity in jtoh discord, mostly because i wasnt really active there. but i found toxicity in tower creator discord, where i was spending most of my time.
i always liked the classic tower design with studs and stuff, but i never looked from a perspective of a new player.

As someone who quitted a while ago and overall had a pretty neutral stay while playing the game/interacting with others, I still find it hard to not agree with many points here. I left on my own accord yes, but I felt like I really didn't want to as I still wanted to continue playing, yet there are just so many factors that keep me away from doing so, including some featured in this video.

This video felt like a reality check to me. Even if I like the classic towers, the modern JToH is fucking horrible. These towers FEEL THE SAME, LOOK THE SAME, and PLAY THE SAME. Nothing stands out anymore apart from very few cases where someone actually puts fucking effort into a tower (which never happens btw). This game feels so soulless now. It feels like someone is rebuilding the same tower over and over again with slightly different gp ideas and good design. I DON'T CARE ABOUT NO DESIGN. If a creator wants me to say their tower is good, MAKE UNIQUE AND GOOD GAMEPLAY.
The staff team also sucks ass now. No one's motivated to run this game anymore. The people that moderate the game are either too lazy to care about it, or have a wife and 56 kids with a 9-5 job five days a week so they barely have time to do anything about JToH. It's a mess that no one cares about, and that's one of the big reasons why there has been no good updates. I still think this game's immaculate just becuase of shit like Ring 7 or Zone 4, but DAMN is the current state of JToH bad.

i agree. 90% of towers from the last two zones have the same boring, uninspired gameplay, and i think it’s because of the current review system. everyone builds the exact same type of gameplay because they know it’ll pass, and the curators don’t encourage builders to experiment.

MY THOUGHTS ON EARLY-GAME JTOH:
it leaved a desperate mark on past me when i had a sudden realization of how big 1/3 of the game is. i soon thought: “wait… if 1/3 of the game sucks… and most of the 1/3 are in the early rings… THAT LEAVES A TERRIBLE IMPRESSION ON JTOH.” imagine a newbie coming in jtoh with decent hopes for the game, only for their hopes to be shattered when they figure out a whopping 1/3 OF THE GAME SUCKS, WITH MOST OF THE BAD PART TAKING PLACE IN THE EARLY RINGS. they would most likely quit soon after that. and when they find out about the jtoh community, it would add insult to injury to them.
after i had that realization about 1/3 of jtoh sucking, i began to realize that the game wasn’t really balanced at all and that having tower slop like ring 3 next to more effortful towers in the later zones sucks for the future players trying to get into the game and quitting the game due to the areas right after purgatorio just being boring, with the good towers being introduced way later in the game. an overall beginning of a game should be a good, easy, and overall smooth part, not a single good tutorial area followed by tower slop. and a good game overall should have the good gameplay kinda spread out, (with some peaks of gameplay along the way if they want) not have it pushed back in the later areas and being surrounded by slop that can and will impact the player’s POV of the game (if their standards aren’t lowered).

also, i thank you for including what i think is a major flaw in jtoh. i appreciate it a lot.

Some points to add on:
Jtoh being money hungry - I know every single game is money hungry, but a game with a fanbase like jtoh will go out of their way and buy everything. I am one of those people, and I regret it. The staff team already gets money from premium payouts. There is no need to buy 800 robux for brownie points. I like to use that term due to it being very similar to tickets. Tickets are completely useless after buying the rock. So if you have the rock, VIP is useless. Don't even get me started on VM. It would be fair if it was 1000 robux. 5000 robux seems like a ripoff. That's because it is. Why buy a flying tool that acts as a boost, when you can get an event item which is, albeit, less convenient, and gets the job done?
Jtoh staff management - Zone 9 just released, and its very buggy. I cannot join it without crashing or extreme lag. A few people in the staff team are optimizing zone 9. Juke is working on Biotech, for more than 6 months. There are curators looking at towers, people adding useless stuff like shops, people working on challenges, and a bunch of people working on Purgatorio. I think that the Jtoh team should be focused on one think instead of overworking themselves. Lets say they are working on area. Once it gets announced, tower submissions are open. Each curator should grade it harshly. There should be no tower with the same gimmick (creativity). Every tower must have a playtester (if the tower is sc, they should hire a top obbyist and not use noclip. That is what caused bad scs to be in the game). For design, the design has to be unique to the tower. ToNN is a great example of 5/5 design. Make sure every tower builder's name is hidden to prevent bias. Neodymious pointed this out best in his 75 things that annoy me about jtoh video (the one about how Clloy got his tower in game first thing whilst there are other towers that never got the spotlight they deserved.) After a certain period of time, tower submissions would be shut down. The team will then build the lobby, but will be given a part limit to decrease lag. The towers will be installed. Then there will be a bugtesting period, where most of the team will bugtest the towers. Then, they will make final touches before releasing the area. There will be no puzzles, as that will ruin the experience. One final touch. Remove challenges. They do absolutely nothing. If you want your tower to be in game and not stay in the whitelist, they will make a dump subrealm like lost river. Make items a secret.
I feel like the main issues about the are the community and the staff.
the staff just kinda hold onto old stuff people have done and judge them based off that. I also think that the staff genuinely just don’t care enough about their community/player base. Removing suggestions was quite possibly the worst thing they did as that was the only way they could get player input into how to improve their game

1. This might be unpopular, but I like modern jtoh. Some aspects do suck though.
2. I agree with the Purgatorio thing. One upside of Ring 1, though, was that it was kind of a litmus test for new players. It drives a lot of people away, though. JToH would be way more popular if they made beginners start with different towers.

The point of banning people is to try to remove "bad" people from the community. if the staff team suspects someone to have an overall negative effect on the community (like Monodoe) they can just ban them. It doesn't matter if it's off-platform. If I commit murders outside of the US, you wouldn't expect the US to just ignore that and expect me to be a good citizen.
6. 10:36 This is how societies and communities are run. Why is fascism bad? Because society considers it to be bad. It's natural for "governments" (the devs) to enforce the beliefs of the populus.
7. Let people argue. It's how people sort themselves out. It's only when people take it too far or don't want to change their minds that it becomes a problem.
8. 12:02 I don't see the problem. I would do that if I were truly proud of my work. It's normal for people to be afraid of what others think of them, and if it takes some discord searches to find out, most would take the opportunity.
9. I find harder towers pretty fun. I can't say anything for horrific-unreal towers though

Also comparing, at worst hate speech to LITERAL MURDER is crazy, and plus in the video I mentioned that if someone did something evil than yeah, ban them.
6. but like is that really right? I feel like anyone should speak their mind freely without having to be banned or censored. I think nick fuentes and andrew tate (pre human trafficking) shouldn't have been banned from yt, despite me hating them and a lot of their ideas.

You are so right. I really do enjoy your content and stuff and it's extremely okay that you leave this doo doo game. I am personally getting bored of doing dam sc towers, they also feel a dam waste of time. Yesterday I beat a very punishing sc in atos and the tower itself is 30-40 mins long flawless, failing at an outside just demotivated me and that just felt a DAM WASTE OF TIME. I have disagrees and agrees with your problems with JToH the main ones i agree with is the modern towers they look exactly the same minus the colors. for ring 1 i think they could revamp it or completely move it to a "ring 1.5" but oh well time to work on the next weekly challenge
whats even worse with the weekly challenges is that they just rotate the same ones for the most part, so I dont even know what they could be working on instead of new areas.

@@natorlenNah they are 100% right the first 6 rings have aged terribly and give such a bad first impression for the game. Even something like Forgotten Ridge minus a few terrible towers is a better starting point just because of how it focuses more on skill instead of traps and bad gimmicks.

I agree with you, classic towers are bad, dumb and annoying, but I dont agree with the your statement that JToH staff should delete ring 1 and replace it with Garden of Ëeshol. Ring one is a part of this game. And they shouldnt delete it cuz "BAD TOWER BAD RING!1!!1". Also why should they delete Tower of Hecc, it is the first tower in the entire game. It should not get a revamp cuz it is good as it is now. Just because some beginners or just people who stumble upon this game cant beat it does not mean it is bad. Also the unindicated traps can be memorized easily you just have to remember where they are. Plus, just because there are tightropes and spinning platforms it does not mean the tower is bad. YOU HAVE TIGHTROPES AND SPINNING PLATFORMS IN MODERN TOWERS TOO! Also it was creative back then. ToTS was the first tower to be (almost) fully purist, ToIE is the first tower to have x-pushers and be a collab and ToH is the first tower (wow no shit sherlock). Also towers like ToR, ToM and ToA are bad, and I know it, but don't hate on ring 1 towers just because you cannot do a jump or a tightrope.

jtoh obviously isn’t a perfect game, and there’s still a lot of room for improvement, and this video did a good job of pointing out what needs to be done. jtoh is definitely out of its prime, but i don’t think it’s lost to the point of no return yet. we the community need to accept that jtoh has its downsides and work together to fix them instead of ignoring them or just complaining without doing anything about it.
Issue 1 and 4 are so true it’s genuinely ruining the game, although idk how they can fix the early bad towers, if they do revamp/update some of the bad towers, it will be difficult to make it still feel classic and fit inside the area, unless if they just revamp every older tower in the area, which will be tedious.

The lack of good and enjoyable jtoh content has made me give in to playing boring Roblox simulators lmao (but I still occasionally play some good games, like Item Asylum). Been playing jtoh since May 2022, and it was interesting to get into, but it just started to become more dry. Either that or I suck lol (only being able to beat a few remorseless towers, but struggles on most challengings).

Honestly i can agree with most of this video, r1-6 needs to have a whole revamp and move it to some legacy event, ive taken a huge break of jtoh due to the lack of updates as well so your points are true
as a specimen playing this funny tower game on and off since late 2018, at one point the game feels like it abandoned the aspect of towers trying to be genuine challenges and started to opt for more traditional platformer aspects which from what i know goes against what a lot of people want, it being genuine challenge and acomplishment, of thats really only present in some remorseless towers and soul-crushings in modern zones which sometimes is executed very well (cough cough ToTD cough), but 90% of the time they are extremely forgettable
theres only been a couple towers i genuinally like in each new zone (mostly being rem+) and it seems like the game isn't going to focus on these harder towers that much.
and honestly as a long-time player yeah i completely agree with the first few rings needing to be revamped or atleast have alternatives
