    As a _rough_ comparison of costs of charging around 20% like this:
    Public charging @ 30p/kWh = £5.55 (~20 mins)
    Tesla supercharging @ 24p-26p/kWh = £4.44 - £4.81 (

      If you are a POLAR subscriber is 12p/kWh.

      Thanks William. I've actually recently signed up for Polar as they're offering 3 months free at the moment (not free charging, just membership to be able to access the discounted rates) but haven't had chance to use the new card yet.
      I think at the normal price of £7.85/month though it's probably not worth it for me since I don't plan on using public chargers on a regular basis. Great discount if it's a method you'll be using regularly however!

      You paid £5.50 how many miles does that give you

      Roughly how many miles would that 20% charge have got you? Just trying to compare it to normal fuel right now and work out how much better off I’d be with an electric car

    Thank you, that was a very clear step by step charging for the polar chargers.

    Hey, good video. I also live in Lewisham area. Tesla for me at the moment is at the dream stage but solidifies into a future target... I will check your other videos. Regards

    Thanks JD very helpful. I am about to take delivery of M3LR myself in the next few weeks and live in a flat with no access to home charge. I commute into London by public transport and only do local mileage at home around 5k a year max. I have 2 50kw chargers at waitrose locally so will just top off there for 30 mins or twice a week and 10 miles up the road is the tesla dealer superchargers if I need a quick hit so tbh if you have access to local 50kw or more and you don't do the avg 1k a month in miles its a no brainer.

    I can't wait for the Superchargers in the Intercontinental at the O2 to open back up, that would be my closest one to use.
    For now its either shop parking public charging points, Canary Wharf or Bluewater.

      Yep, looking forward to being able to try the O2 ones out, especially since there are 12 there! I used Bluewater a couple of weeks ago - all 5 in use when I arrived and a Model S already waiting so ended up being around 15-20 minutes before I could get in...

      Are hotels ok with you using charging points located in their car parks if you’re not a guest or eating there etc? Just curious

    Thank you for that - very good.
    I had not considered looking for non Tesla chargers when touring in our 2022 MY LR. Do all the various non Tesla charging networks offer CCS charging or willI need an adaptor for some?
    P.S. If only those costs were valid today!

    Very informative. Love to see other non-Tesla charge points. Are there any free ones in London eg part of supermarkets?

    • @jdhartwell732
      @jdhartwell732  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Kiran. Yep, there are plenty of free chargers dotted around, both in supermarket car parks and elsewhere. The majority of them are on the slower side and untethered so you'll need to plug your own cable in. On the Zap Map app you can filter to see free charge points, so that's the best place to look for specific areas.

    Loving the videos.
    As a fellow Londoner about to embark on the m3 journey.
    I am in islington, and luckily charging is provided by the council for £20 each year, have you considered contacting your council.
    On another note in the area your leaving the car are you using sentry? Would this deter or attract attention, in your view?
    Thanks for the informative videos you have a nice relaxed style with them.
    Steve

      Thanks very much Steve! I've just had a quick look and it seems as though Lewisham don't offer the same sort of scheme as Islington's unfortunately, great tip to check though - it's not something I was aware of.
      I haven't been using sentry mode when parking it in the underground car park as that's already pretty secure, but I've had it enabled when I've parked up elsewhere. I like to think is does detract attention, at least to the extent that as soon as people realise they're being recorded they get out of there. The other consideration is the battery drain you'll see from it, which is around 1-2 mph while it's enabled.
      One other London-centric point, in regards to the congestion charge; it seems TfL still require you to provide proof in the form of a V5C that your vehicle is fully electric in order to avoid the congestion charge. The emissions charges exemptions are automatically applied when you register, but not the congestion, so it's worth doing as soon as you can!

      @@jdhartwell732 thanks for coming back to me.
      Would be worth keeping an eye on your coucil as I expect all are keen to encourage the shift to EV’s, maybe email them.
      In terms of London congestion zone I guess I need until by Oder turns into a registration number for me to apply.
      Are you aware of any forums of fellow London Tesla owners.sharing tips on parking and charging options when in town?

    • @jdhartwell732
      @jdhartwell732  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I'll drop them an email to see if there are plans afoot, but all being well with the move I'll be in a new borough before too long (still in London, just...).
      I've not found any London-specific groups, but the Tesla Owners group on Facebook is very active and worth joining.
