I think your first idea of DN into invasion ships into getting the influence on Shipping was actually quite inspired. Second or third on this combat isn't that much of a deal and you already know you have no out on first reward. I liked Space Alliance better. It's important to claim those alliances early so there is less chance people are going to fight you over it. But I guess water will always be usefull for Research Station on Helena. 26:48 Both smuggling and spice are fine plays here, I also like getting 3 spice a little better. I would never go Gene Manipulation here. You want to draw exactly three cards and not a single one more. Jessica already draws two, so the two cards from Gene Manipulation would turn your deck without Jessica in the draw pile to draw into next round. In general Gene Manipulation is a good play because you indeed want to thin down that deck and make sure you keep drawing into Jessica, but it's just not the right timing here. Jessica to HQ was fine, Jessica to Arrakeen was fine, Jessica to Shipping was fine. I personally liked Jessica to Arrakeen and dagger to HQ for the guaranteed SMF. 31:06 Exactly, now you can't draw Jessica and Embedded agent together next round because you overdrew this round. See how important deck manipulation is? There are pro's and con's for trashing the SMF you bought last round here. Given that you have no indication an opponent has the double point intrigue I would probably trash the SMF, but trashing dagger is fine. And we got lucky here, Jessica turns. Time to discard the SMF to play Jessica to shipping and hope we can still nab mentat with the Embedded agent. Perhaps we get lucky again and we don't need the mentat to also go for SMF this round, but time will tell. Ehhhhh, wait what? Why did you discard the Reconnaisance and not the SMF? There is still a real chance you can claim another SMF this round. It becomes a lot smaller if you discard an influence over the no influence. 34:23 Pfff lucky you drew into the Liason, I guess we still got Embedded to Tech Negotiation now. That was very risky though and really not necessary. 36:54 I don't hate Sputniks play here, they have the solari to activate the flagship for the extra troops in combat 7 that way. Shame he doesn't quite have enough for extra troops end of this round and extra troops in the combat next round. 40:22 The play is fine, but you either just give up on the alliance and go down on Shipping and up twice on Emperor (go for all 4 tracks to two) or you lock Shipping all the way. The halfway measure that you considered for a second was absolutely the worst play as it risks still losing the alliance and not getting the point from Emperor to make up for it. Personally I would have strongly considered giving up the alliance and taking twice emperor and then one more Fremen on the down from shipping as it just gives you one more point this round. You do just give up on getting an alliance that way though. 43:29 All of you plays were meh, the hand was just bad. Pulling staged from Sonic was great though. Just take the loss and buy the SMF and see if we get to close out the game next round. All in all not a bad game Dizz, I think you would have been hard pressed to win this one anyway with a 12 point Hundro. But there were a few points where you had more optimal plays. I think you could have gotten at least one more point. 🤗
