Thanks so much for this video, and for flipping through the pages so we can get a brief preview of them. I’ve bought quite a few art books and it’s so difficult sometimes to decide which ones to get not being able to see the contents. I was torn between the Edgar Payne book on composition and Edgar Payne The Scenic Journey. I ended up choosing the book on composition. I’m pleased to see it includes a few small reproductions of his fine works. From the little I’ve seen of his works, his use of color is fantastic, and his ability to lead the viewer’s eye through a painting is brilliant. I can’t wait to receive his book on composition. It’s great to see that all the other books you mentioned, I either already own or they are on my wishlist. I must be on the right track. 🙂

Hermosos libros! Felicitaciones. Lástima que aquí en Ecuador no llegan esas producciones y lo poco que llegan son carísimos...pero gracias por explicarnos el contenido de esos extraordinarios libros.

I have been really enjoying reading Daily Painting: Paint Small and Often To Become a More Creative, Productive, and Successful Artist, by Carol Marine. This is a great book about the benefits of daily painting. Definitely motivating me to paint as often as possible. I haven't quite made it to daily sessions yet but I have noticed that I am ironing out time to paint.

What is that behind you? Is that a grid? Did you make it yourself? By the way great choice of books. I have Alla prima from Schmid. Very expensive but worth it every penny.

We've had the ongoing pleasure of doing professional conservation work on literally 100's of Edgar Payne's original paintings from the 1920's in our painting conservation lab. This time short lapse video shows the cleaning of one of his oil paintings: th-cam.com/video/-DSzHcEBZ40/w-d-xo.html

It is so UNFAIR that ART has become a very expensive learning activity, just for rich people!!! I know that if one really wants to learn how to paint, there is so much free information and demonstration on the net. A lot of information, but the real stuff has to be paid and in all fairness, because unfortunately is the nature of Art.....It is not easy to live in art. This Book cost between $40- 80. It is not just this book, because the WHOLE of art learning has become a huge business, and being a self-learner in the oceans of art on the internet is CONFUSING, frustrating If I had time, health, and lots of money to go to a proper college and support all the art tutors on the net.
There NO on-library on the whole web that has this book to be borrowed even for 1 hr. Some editions are extremely expensive, for collectors. I am so intrigued now by this book!

If you are referring to the Edgar Payne Composition book, honestly - looking back at this now a few years later, I would skip that book. It was a good book in the beginning but after a while, he just rambles on and his writing is not good at all - he's a much better painter haha. The only real composition info is at the end of the book and there's better books and info/videos on the subject nowadays. If you like books, I'd personally recommend this one for composition: amzn.to/3q8tIDm
I don't know if you like to read PDF books on the computer, but if so, send me an email at: info@schaeferfineart.com
I have something that might be helpful for you. Peace :)
