    The athmospheric perspective in the painting at 24:39 is just amazing. Its like he painted the air between the backround mountain and the foreground.

    Thanks and this was very beneficial! I’m a beginner and spent 5 months in self quarantine playing with paint! I had all my supplies but my classes had to be canceled until it was safer. As a new oil painter on the beginning of my creative journey, I’m soo motivated to learn and advance my skills. While my classes have been beneficial, I’ve found invaluable free instruction to enhance my journey.

    In the second painting the reds/greens had a much more peaceful feeling than the broken sky colors....a real contrast (interest). thank you very much!

    Yes Edgar Payne, I haven't seen any of his paintings. But they are as you said quite brilliant and demonstrate such inspired genius. An absolute master of impressionism driven by magnificent use of complimentary colour temp rships and muted desaturated blocks of matured looking colours. I can see why you like his works so much.

    Love your videos so much! Thank you for not adding music in the background. Your voice and all we need to absorb in the explanation is plenty enough to keep our interest. Much appreciate it!

    Fantastic! Edgar Payne was such an influence on my art, starting out in plein air painting in the mid-90's. Even went on a painting camping trip to Big Pine Canyon with a friend to paint at one of Payne's favorite spots. My friend Craig and I mule packed in for a week of painting, eating, sleeping, and repeat. A most memorable trip, highly recommended. Skeets were bad (Heck we could have financed our whole trip with sales of our mosquito netting to other campers who forgot theirs, LOL), but the views amazing, and just tying your boot laces up at ten to eleven thousand feet is a big chore, the first day or two. But the 16 or so small paintings I did have been reference for many a large studio painting, the light of the alpenglow is indescribable, you'll never forget the experience as an artist!!

      BTW, the painting at 16:51 is at Big Pine Canyon. There are seven lakes there, I think this is Third or Fourth Lake in the foreground (yes that's their official names!). We camped just up and to the right of this scene, at Fifth Lake! about 10,400 feet el. And we went up to Sixth Lake one day, at 11,000 feet. That was in 2005, could not do it today!

    It's great to learn why you are attracted to some works so much more than others. I didn't know why I liked Carlson but I knew I did. This breakdown explains why great art is so much more than simply a pretty picture.

    I've seen 3-4 of his originals, getting up very close to see how he regulates how much of the under painting shows through to make that movement/vibration effect, just great
    up close it looks like a crazy quilt until you stand back

      @@SchaeferArt Yes, I've always loved his work, since I fist saw it; but your analysis of the forces within the paintings is so helpful in revealing just why I respond to them in the way I do. In his work, he grabs hold of you, and won't let you go!! I just thought they were great paintings, the kind I wished I could do; now you have helped me to see the reason why they are such great designs, compositions, and values. Something everyone can employ in their own work. Loved it!!

    ok. i was wrong. Key is a term of art. Sorry.

    • @SchaeferArt
      @SchaeferArt  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No worries, I probably should’ve been more specific and said which kind of key - like a value key or color key etc.

  • @eubanks29
    @eubanks29 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    “key” is not a term of art. That’s music. Stick to the artist jargon.

    • @ronschlorff7089
      @ronschlorff7089 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, music and art have a lot in common! Geniuses among us make them!! I sometimes wonder what if Beethoven made art and da Vinci made music: what would it have been like?!! :D

    • @SchaeferArt
      @SchaeferArt  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It actually is a term of art haha.
