As a Russian, I think it's sad Russia always tries to enter the 'west european family'.
I guess it's because we are white, and at the first glance it seems like we have more in common with the west. But if you look at our history, the relationships between the west and Russia were never anything to brag about. Even now, when there are no contradictions in ideology, and Russia giving a up a lot to please the west, we are still perceived as an enemy.
I mean, even such a TV show seems unthinkable in EU/USA, where a Russian gets invited to participate and is shown as a normal human being, and not some brainwashed crazy drunken communist wearing an ushanka, screaming how he wants to destroy democracy and the west, or some-kind of a martyr of the totalitarian Putin's regime, like Kasparov or Pussy Riot (well known clowns in Russia).
I think Russians should be more interested in working with China, instead of trying to please the west, which will never accept Russia as equal anyway.

We have a lot of students, studies chineese in bests linguistic universities in Russia like MSLU and it is hard to get in any of Unis in Russia because of extremely hard exams, passing after 11th grade. But the level of linguistic study is really High in Russia. There are a lot of Chinese translators, and of course you can not become a translator wothout regular tests which you should pass at the highest marks. And this is My opinion. Sorry about this. There are a lot of Russians who love Asian, especially confucian cultures. I like how Europeans look (I mean real europeans, white people with non black eyes), similar to slavs, but culturally we are more different in my opinion, in base. If an Asian has one candy he will share it or give it whole to a friend, the same Russian will do, a person from western culture will just eat it whole without thinking of sharing. We are more similar with them culturally. I was born in 1991 and I personally don't understand western people of my generation whatsoever. The way you "friend", the way you date, the way you treat parents, family and how treat each other. And I am from Moscow, I am not even from Far East. Like culturally... nothing in common. I have no idea in what kind of family in Russia you should grow up to see western culture as close. Well maybe old western generations had something in common with us, based on movies there was some moral background and dignity back then, but modern...is something from another planet.
