If you're wondering if you're in a cult or if you've exited one, the Telltale channel can really help you. As can secular therapy. Be aware that cults cause grievous harm and that you might struggle a while afterwards, but you'll be free and surrounded by people who care about you rather than that there's one more member in a cult. Be skeptical and don't drink the Koolaid.

Thank you. I was trapped in a cult for a year, and was able to leave a few months ago. I really needed to hear this. Everything everyone has told me is that I’m messed up for even getting into this mess, and that all of it is my fault. So god, is it nice to see this.

I had a weird dream once where one of my mormon friends who is very brash and not the most polite person was instead sent to a re-education camp as his ‘mission’. I believe this was prompted due to him being sent home due to the pandemic and I almost didn’t recognize his him. He looked the same but talked so much differently, everything he did felt cold and cordial and I am his friend, probably someone he’d be more warm to. Perhaps it’s just the mindset he was in on his trip and I hope when he’s done he goes back to normal.

Not exactly a cult but had a falling out with a pastor. I was straight out of university, trying to figure out how to live in the real world on my own. Made some dumbass mistakes, did some good things, basically working out how life goes. So we met occasionally and i saw this guy as a sort of spiritual guide. Thought we were good, then when my fiancee and I asked to get married in his church he said No. And that's where things got weird. Had a lot of visits from the deacon, deputy pastor and youth leaders, all saying they didn't agree with this but couldn't override him. That opened my eyes that there was a real nasty vibe hanging about that church. To this day I don't know why the pastor made that decision but i knew it was time to get out. I moved to a church across town where I was a lot more welcome and happy.

I am in theatre. If you have ever been involved in theatre, we are basically a cult, just not as extreme as the other ones. Each theatre has a practice that if you break it, you are shamed. It is fun! And it's a healthy supportive cult

    • @alexmarie6130
      @alexmarie6130 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@Tabora That might just be your school, and honestly, theatre is the only place I feel safe. Most theatre groups are actually really healthy because it's a constructive place and there will always be one bad seed in a group. Don't judge the whole of theatre based on one group. I've always felt safe there and am never afraid to mess up or make a mistake because instead of laughing or judging, all of the theatre groups I've been in have instead helped me be better

I'm 33, have been doing theater since I was a kid and still do. Theres some definite overlap haha. Particularly in Academics- my high school groups were pretty normal, just awkward and loud. College the school program and the main two student groups were also alright, if more clicky, but GODDAMN the third student group was mad culty. They generally lived together, doing other theater was frowned upon, and ALL OF THEM would loudly insist they did the best work on campus... like they generally did ok stuff but good lord.

Not a cult, but the church I used to go to was, well, churchy. My turning point was at about the age of 11 when I argued with the Sunday school teachers kid about the existance of dinosaurs. For the millenials and later, back then a lot of churches vehemently denied dinosaurs even existed. This point of view has changed in probably the past 3ish years because, ya know, facts. So they have twisted it so they existed in their young earth hypothesis.

That Jesus camp one made me think of ACTS retreats in when I was in high school. Also, one of the things that you can tell the anti-science Christians is the concept that what if the Big Bang was God committing suicide? A concept I learned about in a theology class in college.

    • @TheAyanamiRei
      @TheAyanamiRei 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I mean I was in a church that was like...a LITTLE Anti-Science, but that was just ONLY regulated to Creationism.
Personally, I think people make too big a deal over the creation of the world, and not NEALRY enough about the important bits.
Funnily enough, the story of Adam & Eve is Genesis Chapter 2, which does NOT say how long God took to create the world. The whole Order of Creation & 7 Days is actually Genesis Chapter 1.
So since many so Christians are gung ho about Addam & Eve....maybe there really was Evolution.

The teacher was a aging hippee and the class was supposed to be about how wasting water was a sin and by extension so was any wasteful use of resources... but we frequently went off the rails and talked about other things. That was a concept the teacher brought up when someone asked about creationism and is linked to the branch of theology called "Christology"; the underlying idea being that what if God wanted to have His existence proven to himself and commited suicide (the big bang), and every recorded divine manifestation in history is His consciousness checking in on us. I'll admit, the concept is a bit beyond me but as I said, it's a great defence for the anti-science crowd.

I realized what I am learning at my church is, of the 'genuine' Reformed theology - though slightly 'localized'. So, I just shrugged whenever I heard various accusations. Then I saw some people in the same denomination (and naturally, different churchs), and..... they sounded so cultic. I just could not help myself facepalming.

@@stormspotter67 The Pentecostal/Charismatics are like the Red Bull - they may bring people to the LORD, and empower people through the Holy Spirit but they cannot sustain people in faith that well because they do not feed them with the Word of God 'properly'. That is why we end up seeing people just crash and burn, or deviate to satisfy their desires like those with low sugar in their blood. Speaking of the Tongue; I do not necessarily discredit it but, if someone thinks that it is some sort of 'sign' that he/she believes God, then it is a headache.

I thought Church of God had the bible right. Everyone was friendly, in an odd way, but fuck it. They fed me, they called me sister, and eventually I would up getting baptized and having my name written in the book of life. I was in college at the time (where they target new members) and a friend bought edibles for us to try. I'd never eaten edibles so I had some sour patch kids, white chocolate, milk chocolate, a Tootsie roll. I can't say for certain but I probably had about 2000mg of thc. I didn't feel anything. My phone rang and a member had come to pick me up for Bible study. By the time I got to church it all hit at once. Nothing on the whiteboard made sense and all I could say was "I feel sick, I need to go back." I don't even remember leaving. When I got back I blocked the member because I didn't want to explain and was too embarrassed to ever go back. Googled them a couple years later and found out it was a cult.

One thing that scared me was when they find out anyone you hang out with is catholic and that praying to other figures (such as the Virgin Mary) is a sin and that it’s against god. My parents are Catholics and so are my extended family. But I remember when I didn’t even know Christians considered it sinful, they would almost shame me. It would be awkward just sitting there feeling in being lectured. I don’t even believe in a religion, but the way their attitudes change is just scary. Kinda almost makes me think that Christianity is a cult, so I stay away from it. I’ve met many of those people in my life. They seem like nice people at first until you get to know them even further more. but oh god the way they treat their own family and friends if one does something “not right”... I have a couple of my own friends deal with their own crazy church Christian parents who only and solely want them to prioritize the religion.

While back like close to 20 years. I was part of a circle, so called Wiccans. might have started out that way but it didn't end up that way.
It was great at first. my son was the first child that attended.
looking back they they were polite but distant with him.
when I had gone away for a couple years and came back with my little girl and little boy in tow.
they just made her out to be the neatest thing since sliced cheese and I was annoyed.
I sat back and I watched from that point on, to see what was going on. Paid closer attention cuz stuff didn't feel right.
what happened was just like they said in one of the clips.
I had initially brought in a bunch of people when they were first starting their circle.
then I didn't I didn't buy into their delusions. I didn't buy into their bullshit.
just an FYI if you're going to be messing with energies of the universe? don't fucking get drunk off your ass stupid before you handle these energies.
    I had issues with this.
I was obviously the one with the problem, because I was the only one that said anything.
everyone else was there for the party I guess.
I became, I guess you'd say like wall decoration. I was there but nobody really wanted me there.
it's like if I left nobody would miss me.
well about three people would have.
the reason that I absolutely did not ever go back?
I was there with my children as per usual.
two people who were not even part of the circle but had been welcomed with open arms cuz they brought drugs ( I didn't know it at the time).
I look out on the front porch and they're standing under a light, in full view of the street with a crack pipe!
    I. WAS. DONE!!!
I'M NOT GOING TO RISK MY KIDS FOR THESE MOTHERFUCKERS IN ANY WAY.
When I had seen previously was a lot of alcohol possibly a little toke.
The minute I saw that shit I left.
    I never went back.
and you know funny thing? within say, a year? A yr and a half? the circle completely imploded.
they got too many people there who just wanted to be there for the party.
who were oh so popular and then the regular people who just wanted to be there to worship?
yeah the party's fine after the businesses attended to.
The serious ones the ones that actually wanted a religious group?
we all left & with no one being responsible and trying to keep things together it blew up in their faces.
    I laughed my ass off.
I was one of the few people who tried to warn them and we were basically pushed out of the circle.
    Shit happens people.
You chose poorly and it blew up in your faces.
And yeah I'm a little salty over it. nobody likes to be made to feel like they're wrong. there was a lot of gas lighting going on.
I didn't know what it was called at the time. I do now.
I can laugh about it now.
    Karma that shit's real.

@@ryanmckenna9330 okay then here’s some things I’ve gathered from growing up in the church and what not
1 gods existence. God is a very vague figure he knows everything about us and we know nothing about him and the believe that he exists cannot he explained even by the most devoted Christian
2 church. Something designed to look so simply normal but in reality could be used to make you believe in their religion, for example most songs sang in church just repeat the same verses repeatedly not even given much thought or anything, most sermons are boring and don’t make a lot of sense.
3 evidence. People try to connect the Big Bang theory with the creation story to make it make more sense this is mainly most likely because they can’t really find any real ground to stand on when it comes to this.
4 the Bible. This book of “truth” was written thousands of years ago and translated by PEOPLE who are, as we know, sinners and most likely tainted the Bible to their own will, such as if they hated poor people they would say “thou shall be killed if thou hath no money” or something like that
5 Jesus. The theory that Jesus dies on a cross to save us all of our sins make no sense for many reasons but I’ll get to that on a second first of all I will talk about how churches use this to make children and even adults believe his existence, they will say things like you are forgiven from all sin because Jesus loves you so much now consider this. Jesus being the messiah and supposedly coming back well that was thousands of year ago and it still hasn’t happened however the other thing is if we are already forgiven of all sin then why ask for forgiveness and if god hates sin why does he love us if we are sin and my last thing is simply put, is why hasn’t he come back yet because what’s going on is people aren’t going to church as much since we are stuck at home therefore losing their faith and therefore by the time all this blows over there will be less Christians because they will not be exposed to all the brainwash and what not
