    Good idea, I built 1.5" sq/tube bumpers for a 93 Tracker and installed 2" receivers to both f & b. I then bought a 2500 lb winch w/remote, mounted it on a 12" x 2" sq/tube w/ 11/16" pin-hole, ran 8 gage wires through a 50a breaker to plugs f/receiver, toss it in a box in the back & hope I never need it.
    (The frame was wrecked so it got welded)
    Now to put a f/bumper w/ a 2" receiver on a 2002, 2dr, 4x4 auto w/hard top so it can flat chase my camper.
    SUGGESTIONS???

    If you want to commit to the Cherokee front clip idea, pretty sure you could source a gran Vitara hood that does not have the bumps in it and is a direct bolt on? I think that would make a sick little track-erokee? I’d like to see a rear bumper next, To my knowledge you can’t fit a 31 inch spare on the stock rear because the rear bumper. Building something to fit a bigger spare, some lights, as well as have some d rings for shackles would be very nice. Love the tracker content!

      Funny you mention that, I was just looking at an XL7 in a junkyard for exactly that reason. I'm thinking that would be a swap with both fenders in addition to the hood. • @BarelyBuiltRight

      Its hard to say. The sensor is still in place, so they should still deploy. However, the actual activation time may be microseconds different due to the bumper. Can't really say if its too much of a difference as I haven't set them off..

    • @NickLenarz
      @NickLenarz หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@BarelyBuiltRight Thanks for getting back to me, I appreciate it. I'm going to go ahead with it, but as the stock frame horns are a little flimsy I think I'm going to box the frame horns 1/8" plate for a little ways and extend them, rather than putting the C channel extensions inside. I know the idea was no-weld, but I just think the stock frame needs to be beefier. I could just see that stamped steel tearing in an impact and the bumper and C-channel being just fine.
      Thanks for the fantastic idea and link!

    • @BarelyBuiltRight
      @BarelyBuiltRight  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NickLenarz for sure! Yeah you will be much better suited than mine with that plan. Don't reinforce toooo much as that will reduce the factory crumple zones in the frame rails. If they are too stiff they won't collapse correctly and the airbag sensor will be just a little too late, resulting in bags deploying just a little late. But a little reinforcement should be okay.

    Due to where I live, I wasn't able to order that specific bumper, but I did find one locally. I have a few questions:
    1. What length were those C-Channel pieces?
    2. Why didn't you use L-Channel brackets; or, was there any particular reason to use C-Channel?
    3. If C-Channel is required for strength, how much of the bracket was cutoff to fit?
    Thank you for the videos, I'm enjoying them and making similar modifications on my tracker

    • @BarelyBuiltRight
      @BarelyBuiltRight  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your support!
      1. the two pieces of C-channel were just two scrap bits for sale at Metal Supermarkets. I believe one was about 8" and the other 10" or so. This length wasn't super critical in my case, as the extra length could poke out in to the void on the backside of the bumper.
      2. I would think L-channel would be okay too...originally I was going to install a bracket from the lower-face of the channel to the lowest mount tab on the bumper, but it felt firm enough with the top ones. If you are just going to looks and not winching that is. In that case I would add a couple more bolts to the brackets further down the frame rails and also add that lower bracket
      3. I think I cut about 5-6" off the one face of the C-channel. There is a "bottoming out" point where you will hit obstructions further in the rail.
      Happy to be of help!

    Hey! Found the video!! I was wondering with all these aftermarket installations, do these follow all regulations by law? Just didn't wanna get pulled over for these. I was also planning on getting the windows tinted. Recently bought a 2003 chevy tracker. Any suggestions on the lower panel below with rust below the driver door and back driver door?

      Also, do the connection pins that go into the headlight housing need an adapter for the led headlights?

    Can't find this bumper . How different might this mod have to be for other jeep bumpers

      I have a link in the description! Should be fairly similar for most jeep bumpers. Just take note of dimensions to make sure the width is what you want.

    Looks great but would not trust using a winch off it

    Probably not necessary to use 1/4" steel when bolting to 16-gauge sheet metal.
