    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just sang it more "open" instead of using the narrow sound I was using throughout the song, I should have kept it a bit more narrow to fit into the style of the song better.

      i see, i have a heavy deep voice and cant go with soft voice above high F but with more volume i can go up to b4 or c5 sometimes.
      i wouldnt say im a tenor because my voice is deep when i talk but it sounds quite light when i sing high so i dont know, could u help me with that doubt?

      from the clips I've heard of you I would say you are closer to high baritone.

    I have a question. How is Brendon Urie keeping from belting in this video, but not narrowing his mouth, yet still keeping a clear voice? Check 0:47 - 1:35 in this link
    th-cam.com/video/SXb8JnIrmkg/w-d-xo.html
    Is it just experience and strong larynx that is allowing him to keep from narrowing his mouth?

    • @philmoufarrege
      @philmoufarrege  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi there Stranger. He is narrowing, if he didn't then his vowel "live" at 0:50 would sound more like "LEHV" because that's how you'd belt that note. He prevents that by reigning in the vowel to smaller vowels, and he closes his mouth vertically.
      What matters more than the mouth position is the VOWEL SOUNDS - the mechanism BEHIND the mouth, the throat shapes. Meaning you can be spread or closed horizontally, narrowing basically means you keep the vowels more to OO/IH/UH so when he sings "live" @ 0:50 notice he keeps a deep "uh" in the undertone underneath the "ih" vowel instead of opening up to LEHV like you would to belt?
      This is the key. The spread itself adds stability and colour to the sound, but without that "uh" undertone he would splat and strain - he naturally does this but most people that take lessons with me need to train this in from scratch. Developing this ability to look for space DOWNWARD or vertically is what narrowing teaches you how to do so that you CAN come back and sing this in a similar way that Brendon did.
      the purpose of THIS video is not to ban you from spreading, it's to help you spread properly if you're straining when you try to do it. It's to help people FIND this configuration , and eliminating the spread can really help with this because many people when they try to sing with a smile and closed mouth tend to strain when they try to go high. Once it is developed they can add back the spread again and the voice works even better than without it.
      The reason people tend to strain when they smile is because when you smile, you start to rely on seeking space horizontally, which in many cases causes people to raise their larynx and get jammed up and strain. If you can't sing an OO through your bridges and you're splatting and straining it tells you right away you haven't learned how to narrow and seek vertically for space. So you eliminate the spread temporarily you then force the body to seek VERTICALLY for space.
      I recommend learning how to sing through your bridges without the smile and then you will find when you add it back in, things are even easier because not only is the larynx now stable but the smile adds colour and actually adds strength to the voice especially in the high notes - but only if the sound itself is free and not strained to begin with.
      You can see my latest video @ 9:39 th-cam.com/video/85Ga8D-r5jQ/w-d-xo.htmlm39s
      I show this idea of starting small then opening up, if the mechanics
      behind it are not right you will struggle regardless what mouth position
      you adopt.
      And here is a demonstration of me singing with very spreaded vowels:
      th-cam.com/video/TeVHUV6VEAk/w-d-xo.html
      Hope this helps!
