i agree. comparing superm's debut song lyrics being like "we're the new standard, we're the best" to GOT the beat debut song lyrics, "stay away from my man", its weird how the all girl group's lyrics is about a man and the all boy group's lyrics is about worth and being the best. even in that context, it does defeat the purpose of a girl group with amazing artists and subjugating their worth from a man, taking out the feminist observation. it would have been weird that superm's debut song containing lyrics about a girl and other men staying away from her, so why not GOT the beat? aespa's debut song was insane but not about a man.......ion know. whoever decided on the lyrics dropped the ball on this one so hopefully future songs will actually have substance.

We all know she's a stand out vocalist in Girls Generation/SNSD but there are other members with greater performance skills in GG that we often forgot how good she is on projecting on stage. This just shows that GG together is SO coherent BUT the moment you try to put them somewhere else, they will be the center of attraction. As a sone for 10+ years, I also think that Taeyeon has improved her stage presence a lot since early years of SNSD. It probably has something to do with her confidence and maturity now, but also because she’s healthier and less tired.
SNSD used to be running on a treadmill non-stop for years and years, because of their insane popularity (and the fact that SM don’t care about their artists’ health…). I remember Taeyeon often looking tired and cannot sing high notes very stably. She’s not a very (physically) strong girl and I used to worry a lot about her health.
So now it is really heart-warming to see her rising out of all the hardships and shinning brighter than ever. Her resilience as an artist and a person is honestly so inspiring.

Ngl, I was a tad bit worried about how she's gonna pull off in terms of performance because a lot of members here are mainly known for their dance and stage presence. But holy shit, Wendy. Wendy. Wendy. Wendy. Like you said, it was ANGRY but in the best way possible. It was magnetic. I couldn't take my eyes off her and kept repeating her parts. She abso-fucking-lutely KILLED IT and she brought out a 9th voice from somewhere within her istg. I seriously want RV to tackle a concept like this now. Give me Rockstar Wendy ffs!
For the overall stage, the styling was impeccable here. Everyone was serving looks. The beat, the tone, the voices, everything was amazing. The only little disappointing thing for me was the lyrics.

Agree with your point on the lyrics. I do think SM could've gone with the "female empowerment" route considering they're called "Girls on Top". This is not the first time this has happened in the music industry, and it def won't be the last. SM has made decisions like this before and even though it wasn't intentional, it does come off in a bad way. But I saw a video on this topic and I do see how there are different interpretations. One could argue that it's a song about a woman talking to another woman about her relationship with the guy and to respect it/setting boundaries.
However, I don't think there should be as much hate (that's circling about right now), considering any other boy group who talks about "problematic" issues doesn't get nearly as much backlash.

I saw it as a woman that’s defending her relationship because another woman is trying to steal her man. But I do understand that a lot of people were expecting something related to women empowerment considering the groups name. Either way, they can always release a song like that in the future, I personally don’t think it’s that deep and most certainly don’t think it deserves all the intense backlash it’s been getting! girls on top is simply a reference to boa's song, and the fact that this is gonna be a rotational thing with every female artists from their agency (so everyone will have a chance to shine). I am not sure how singing about keeping another woman from their man is going against the title lol? It's not a title for this particular unit (their title is GOT the beat), it's the title for the whole thing because it's gonna be female artists showing off their TALENTS, not trivial things like lyrics

With the lyric "he's sick and tired," it implies that they are in a relationship with the guy and he is not cheating on her with the other girl in question, and that other girl is simply not respecting the boundaries of their relationship, which in this case they have every right to be upset with the other girl. I think if the lyrics implied the man was cheating and they were attacking the other girl rather than the cheating man, it would actually be problematic.
