The Aquilifers were truly the backbone of the Roman legions. Their unwavering dedication to protecting the eagle standard was a testament to their loyalty and commitment to their unit. It's fascinating to learn about the importance of these individuals in Roman military history.

Question was there a significance between the legions & the Aquilifers by the animal skins they wore or was that just their own choices

Huge difference between the two. Legionnaire didn't wear animal furs of high status.

@@scoutstripedwolf950 I know the regular legionaries didn't wear them but the Aquilifers did. I was just wondering if they just were what they wanted or had a specific one that they did. You know like the best legion of the emperor was wearing the lion then tiger, bear, wolf you know down the animal line.

@@-RONNIE wolf fur was worn by the vexillarius and bear fur by the signifer, a lion fur was given to the aquilifers.

@-RONNIE I would recommend the book, Roman Standards & Standard-Bearers (1): 112 BC-AD 192 (Elite), for more information on standard bearers and the like if you’re still interested and looking for reliable sources.
