For a "beginner" at jug fishing, you did right well Mike. I enjoyed watching that. It looked like you could have used an extra set of hands from time to time. You should think about getting Jordan to show you how to fish for the hybrids. Those are a blast once you figure it out and that lake is awesome for that. Hope you have a Happy New Year.
I love to jug fish! I made my own jugs after watching another youtuber. I use a simple set up made with pool noodles. Simple but effective and inexpensive. Love the videos! One of these days I may cruise up and say hello. I fish Truman quite a bit.
Those size blues you got taste better than crappie once fried up! Excellent tablefare. I’d like to see a jug catch cook and some more crappie videos see if ol Mathew Rodger’s will come out with you again.
"Juggin" really looks complicated today compared to yesteryear. Back before flashers and very few paper graphs existed, we used actual jugs. Mostly Clorox bleach bottles smaller than gallon size. Some actually painted their jugs with unique colors to make them identifiable. We used monofilament with single hooks. We usually suspended the baits just off the bottom and dropped them across any current or wind to keep them in motion. We fished as we drifted with the "bottles." Usually, we used at least a dozen. It was a good way to find fish, the bait they preferred and to catch quantity. Sometimes we put out a "trot line." To help gather the numbers we needed for a big fish fry. Awesome big fish. Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Great job Mike, I'm down here on Lake Livingston in Coldspring, Texas I've done a lot of old school jug lines, I do perfer to drift, but I'm like you, I love catching eaters.
Great video on flipper jug fishing. Only because you asked I would have sized down my hooks one or two sizes and went with one hook per line, less tangles. That was a beautiful over fish glad to see you put it back. Great job I really enjoy watching your fishing adventures!
I for one like the cat fishn videos. I know you don't get as many views on them. But I hope you keep doing them. Thanks for showing the shad catch. Gotta get me one of them livescopes. I found that just ripping one of the gills out works just as well for bleeding out. That is much easier than having to cut through that bone.
I really enjoyed the jug fishing video and would like to see more. I'm not a catfish fisherman. I'm a crappie guy but, I may try cats. I'm in Tulsa so I may get some of those Okie Flippers and give it a go next time out.
Nice Video Mike, I love jug fishing rod and reel is ok but you don’t catch the same fish you do on a rid and reel. I’ve done them both on Truman and Jug Fishing makes it more exciting when you’re pulling up that line.
@ I’ve watched a lot of them but I’ve never seen one where they gather a third or so of the net and not put it over their right hand. Looks like you just held that third or half in your left hand and threw a perfect pancake. I’m worn out from throwing a net this weekend and always looking for an easier way. Thanks for the great videos.
Great video Mike! I just wouldn’t recommend Jordan Leer for a guide service. I’ve been out with him on a trip and my dad, and brothers were not happy with his guiding. There is a lot better guides on Truman that I’ve been with.
@@Rubo7 thanks for watching. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience with Jordan. I had a great time when I went with him and I know a lot of people who speak very highly of him.
Hi Mike, I really enjoyed this video. I have two questions. (1) What do you do with the excess jug line on these devices. Do you let the line hit the bottom and then wrap any excess line around the spool? (2) It looks like you placed your jugs in areas that you saw shad on your scope - it that correct? If you weren't able to locate the shad what would you be looking for to place your jugs - as example where a cove leads into the channel ... a flat area. I know you said you're new to this but any advice would be appreciated.
Also, would you ever consider taping a show setting a trot line? I can't seem to consistently set, tie up a trot line between two points - they are (a) good ... (b) too loose or (c) too tight. I've tried looking on TH-cam but have yet to find something that shows the whole process. We run them on Truman in your neck of the woods by the way. Thanks again!!!
A great way to bring in the new year with a famous Mike Baker video. Thanks for what you do Mike
I fish Truman and enjoy watching how you fish. Entertaining and informative. Thanks
Great video as always - and thanks for showing the cast net for shad part! Very helpful for those of us trying to learn that aspect of things. 👍🏻

Good Video Mike, First time jugging you did a fine job. Have caught many blues jugging on the Osage and Missouri, using 1/2 gal. milk jugs.
Do more jug fishing and how u clean catfish.

on the big fish ya need to make a slide plank to lay em on and slide em into the water. save all that lifting on us old guys. lol

I enjoy doing jugs lining on the upper Truman Lake. I catch more catfish and have more fun pulling them than fishing on a rod and reel.
What kind rod holders are those?
