Barry Davies is the poet laureate of football commentating. Utterly peerless. A marvellous night at the old Dell, an intimidating place for visitors for a night match in front of a fiercely partisan full house. Liverpool went on to pip Southampton to the title, who lost a cup semi final narrowly to Everton. So no trophies for them sadly, but as this film shows, this was a side brimming with talent, both young & wiser. Liverpool were always a treasured scalp for any team, but they were rarely so utterly outplayed as they were that night. The Saints demonstrated they were the better of the two teams getting a draw at Anfield. Two fabulous goals from Wallace. The first is breathtaking. What a night that was.
When you think of how many bad ones from 91 to 2017 . Its all to do with the team and has every player done all they could do to prevent getting beat. Dont forget Liverpool fans was spoilt some but not all thought it was a divine right to win.Ive a book of LIVERPOOL'S quotes by many like Bob PAISLEY who said You have to earn the right.
This is 17/2/21 . THERE ARE NO THUMBS Im a LIVERPOOL FAN AND I DONT THUMBS DOWN. SOUTHAMPTON WAS A GOOD SIDE. NO SHAME IN GETTING BEAT. THERE IS ONLY SHAME WHEN YOU HAVENT GIVEN IT YOUR ALL TO PREVENT IT.
Something missing in attacking midfield in this one, Southampton were happy to give Sammy Lee all the time he wanted on the ball and pick him off when he tried to carry it forward. Credit to him for trying though, maybe Souness would have made the difference but Rush (and Robinson) seemed on an island, Kenny not really in the game either.
I don't have it, and as it isn't on youtube I assume it would be blocked by UEFA anyway. You can buy the full match on DVD from this website: footballontap.webs.com/championsleague200820.htm
@@jonathancole833 I feel like they've always played us when we were at our lowest points. I'm sure we would have battered them if we played them in 2018-19 and 2019-20 seasons.

What a night that was.
Good to see the dell again good work dave
That was a Friday night live match for all to see.
Also Mark Wright looks so promising it’s a shame he come to Liverpool at the wrong time
Some great names out on that pitch - I loved that era of football. How old would Worthington have been then?
Only 35 but players didn't look after themselves like they do now. Big Lawrie had a talent of spotting when players had another season in their legs.
2 great goals !!
Mind you they were allowed the odd bad performance .I always fought Southampton in the 80s where only two players away from a really good team

You had a terrific team in those days. Always played good football.

Mate do you have highlights of our 1-0 win at the Bernabeu in 2009. Can't find it anywhere.

@@DaveWallerLFC ahh thanks mate 👍
To think that before 2014, Real had never beaten Liverpool or even scored against them!

@Jonathan Cole didn't they score in both legs and win at Anfield (despite going out) in 2006/07?
I remember this one Dave as being l the worst Liverpool performance from our treble season😩😩😩
Get in there. Come on you Saints. I like Jimmy Hill's comment, 'So what was wrong with Liverpool'. Beaten by a better team Chiny.
Southampton had a very formidable side back then, look at them now, useless. Finished second that season behind Liverpool
Liverpool treble winners, Southampton just nobodies.
