Series X's processing tech will be waiting to load assets, there is a reason why Series X still has pop-in and why games don't load as seamlessly as PS5.

Rocky area was the best choice. They've got lush foliage pretty much down, particle bursts all over the place, but even in AAA titles like GOW & AC rocks always look unnatural to me. Finally something that looks next gen.

Well people most people just think teraflops makes a console better at preforming then the other but then when side by sides come out they get so confused and try to convince themselves that the higher teraflops console looks better when in reality it doesn't.

Mhhh this is a tech demo. Using unreal engine and not some proprietary sony engine thus with what with know so far this would probably look better on Series X. Plus like alll tech demos this was prolly done with a Pc trying to emulate the ps5. And if you look at the graphics of ps4 pro vs Xbox one x the one x has better graphics and it's more apparent when you play in "4K". So yeah saying that ps5 or series x has better graphics than the other at this stage, is kinda pointless because we haven't truly seen gameplay from either.
ps5 is more customised for next gen gaming, xbox SX is more customised for backward compatibility

Everyone is so caught up on this running in real-time on a Playstation 5. All I saw was an overly detailed walking simulator with a flying cinematic at the end. I wouldn't consider that representative of the Playstation 5 and PS5 games.
No you fucktard, there was no flying cinematic, ITS REAL TIME RENDERED. High quality assets like this are already used in the film industry with UE4. Photogrammetry and high quality assets will be the new standard of all games, although i doubt there will be this fidelity. It will be somewhat compressed in quality for storage space reasons. We cant have 500GB+ games, its just not feasible.

This is moronic, this is an Unreal 5 tech demo and that's all it is. Not all dev teams use Unreal 5 for starters and thay also stated that this demo will run on either of the new consoles coming up. No PS5 win here at all. Both consoles will be great.

The SSD speed achieved by the PS5 us cutting edge only a few M.2 drives in PC are as fast- so in a short while at least this console is unmatched, but in about a year PC SSDs could catch up

Yea, Unreal Engine is optimized for Nvidia, not AMD so I'd expect first party at least to look better. And I think there was ray tracing, that is what makes global illumination isn't it? PS5 won't have much more ray tracing though if they want to keep 60 fps

It’s an unreal engine tech demo. Not “gameplay” as you stated. It’s a glorified CG trailer running unreal engine 5 on ps5 hardware. Not to burst your bubble but it’s running @ 1440p 30fps. That doesn’t mean that’s the best the ps5 can do it’s just what it’s running at. Something both the Xbox x and ps4 pro can already do. Nobody was put “on notice” the tech demo can run on pc and series x just as good.

The series x would play the same demo equally if not better seeing as the demo is running at 1440p @30fps something the one x and pro can already do.

@khalid seid Not necessarily. Unreal stated this was pulled off due to the SSD streaming speed of the PS5, which is more than twice as fast as the Series X. For the most part Yes they will look the same, it's when you stream massive amounts of data, like the flying sequence, is where you'll see the difference.

@@riceeater79 This engine most likely won't be out till 2020 and they said the engine scales heavily with the GPU, so could perform better on PC and Series X.
riceeater79 those were the third party games that was created before the new gen console was announced. I think in 2021 this kind of graphics will be used among developers creating games that look like this.

Yes the engine is coming to all platforms but the way Sony executed this move shows that they still have the upper hand in marketing and player interest. Xbox really has to show how much better games look on the Series X or else their early sales are gonna be slow.

I just want to mention that it's running at 1440p 30 fps and no ray tracing. Once you all more frame rate there might be significant reduction in fidelity. Hopefully this is next gen but.......!
Did you see the lighting? There is no need for ray-tracing after this demonstration. There isn't a more impressive showing of real-time lighting on any other game using RT PERIOD! What a dumb counter argument. RT would only knock down the performance even further. BTW the shitty NES graphics Minecraft RT demo on Xbox Series X....that demo ran 1080p 30fps with NONE of the other impressive graphical features shown on this PS5 demo today! Let that sink in.

That's kinda what I said when the video ended. Impressive environment, but the character still looks kinda cartoony and current. This is still a great vision of next-gen performance though, so I'm not complaining. They did say that launch PS5 games won't be using this new tech. So yes, it's all still a wait and see. I'll probably wait to buy a new system either way, just to be safe. This was a win for Sony here.
This demo was impressive, but I need to see what PS5 can do without Unreal Engine too. Launch games won't be using this tech, and if you focus a ton of energy into a small demo, it may not be too difficult to make things appear bigger than what they can actually be (e.g. Watch Dogs). Let's wait and see.

Being able to use high poly assets will make game development so much faster. Because currently they will make a highly detailed asset just to grab the normal map then they have to make the same asset using way less quads. I can’t remember why when I was making 3d models it was important not to have triangles but anyway that’s a side note. So the lower detailed asset is used in the final game and they’ll use the higher detailed normal map and it does a fairly good job of looking like the higher quality asset. But if you get up really close you can see the geometry is fake. One of the limitations that you can see in a lot of games is how round objects are modeled you will see a lot of things that should be round but look more like a hexagonal shape. This is because of the limited amount of polygons that can be called at any time.
