Further more, I have listened to Layne Staley for over 20 years now, and this cover is extremely good, considering how hard this song is to sing. For a "sober" person, I would say your judgment is rather poor...
That being said, no one can ever sing like Layne! No cover will ever do justice, but this is one of the best in my opinion. Also, keep in mind that Brendan Maier is well known for his covers of AIC, wich is quite wierd, considering how you think the difference is so big and the quality is "so so"...

To all the critics bent on bashing me for my obviously off tempo on this VERY MUCH LIVE VIDEO..I offer these facts to squash some of the hate! I'm totally guilty of rushing the fill directly before the guitar solo,that partially due to my Second visably shattered drumstick during this song, one flying out of my hand without missing a beat! But the rest of my dragging was purposely performed that way cuz that's the way we always rehearsed it, to have a durge kinda feel, as I've heard A.I.C.also do this live! In addition...I sang All the backing vocals while playing this wich was slightly difficult but doable, even at some cost in my long stay with this band, I definitely never played verbatim to the studio version, but other than Neil Peart.. I haven't seen too many drummers that do...we just felt it and played for the moment!! So forgive this almost 60 year old fuck for my human mishaps..I believe I gave it a good go anyhow!
