Dam that one is huge! Really cool video. I received the coral newnan from one of you recent sales. Simply incredible and stunning point! Thin, symmetrical and out of awesome material. It really inspired me to do some knapping!! Haha my wife was telling me to come in from knapping last night but I was on a role! I am happy to own one of your points! It an striking point to display. Thank you!
Every platform is perfect and every strike is with intention. I am reminded of a BoHunter video I once saw a long time ago where he said "if the platform is not right, don't hit it". That has stayed with me since. I love to watch you work
Any 1 heat treating cherts or jasper and works well with Agate also , this is the best temp time and using paper towels for somereason makes it more glass like easy to run long flakes
Marty, have you considered becoming a paid consultant for experimental archeologists? I believe your deep understanding of tool use, process and manufacture is far beyond the papers I read from these folks.
I help some academic people I like for free trips and stone, plus it’s given me access to site materials and collections that aren’t available otherwise. Ive gotten to see some amazing things over the years and I’ve been able to narrow some tech based signatures and site specific order of operations I didn’t think would be revealed to me. It’s been great. If I had a business card I may end up working with some folks that are agenda based or difficult to be around so I’d rather be informal about it all so I have more freedom. Thanks though:)
You ever sell any of them,I make my own stuff,I can't nap but I make tamohalks, spears just some kool stuff,I always tell anyone looking at my work where my blades point, exc, come from.thank you
Yes, when they’re this big. If I had someone help hold and support a king blade I’d love to experiment w the horizontal punch, but working with pieces this long held flat especially working on the ends would end snap them unless they were really thick.
@@Flintknappingtips I appreciate the offer! I don't have any videos. I've just finished a blog post on doing Clovis with the horizontal punch I'd llove to send your way and see what you think about the technical parts.
= heat to both sides makes a big difference , at 2hrs pull out of oven flip the stones like food recover and continue for 2 more hrs. You will turn a turd into a very knappable piece. Enjoy all
Chert does better at 450 for 4hrs use paper towels on top you will see they are almost black and the chert will get darker. Then it knapps like quality chert same for jasper..
You might surprise yourself. Thin the ends and keep platforms low and hit it expecting to break it and after you get some good flakes you’ll get more confident.
Incredible percussion work, and really appreciate the kind words. Love these videos, especially of the bigger blades.
I believe you are the best percussionist in Flint Knapping
Gracias por el video, hace falta gente como tú, saludos
Gracias, thank you 😊
That is incredible
I like how organized you are with your platforms 😮 I try to do the same.
Nice blade. Thanks for the lessons.

Thank you Devan! Glad you liked the Newnan. Knock the chips off before you come inside:)

Thanks Mike
still the best

Agate varies so much, I’ve got some that will not handle that. If you’re heating thin slabs and spalls for pressure that may be a good average temp.
Awesome thanks
You bet!

Always pleasure to watch you knapping
Appreciated Jan
Hope my comments help any 1 heat treating stones. I also use paper towels under the stones. So it treats the same on both sides

I sell some. If I sell scale work for blades occasionally it’s usually obsidian
I call dibs on that bad boy if you decide to sell it.
Are you the Ray I met at Jasons?
@@Flintknappingtips nope
Marty, thanks for the video. Awesome knife! Do you prefer direct percussion over the horizontal punch on the big pieces?

Long blade. Hey Ian, if you’ve got buffalo punch videos feel free to give me links and I’ll direct people to you if you want to share.

@@Flintknappingtips Good to know. Thanks!
Just curious bro how many of those large pieces have u accidentally broke lol. Cuz my scrap pile is huge
What did you mean when you said “if I would of went 500 it would of gotten Squirrley” what is the 500 you’re referring too?
Heated to 500f

This piece didn’t get that hot and I wouldn’t want any more on it for this work. Never heard of the paper towel thing. Interesting
Oh this is a great video, this is the part where I usually do some mistakes that ruins my biface 😁
I would break something that big just looking at it. Lol
