How To Fix a Dryer That Clicks But Won't Start: A Troubleshooting Guide

  • This job took a little detective work to figure out. The customer said his dryer clicked when the button was pushed but wouldn't start. After checking every component on this unit, I finally got it running. Problems like this make the washer and dryer repair business rewarding. Every day seems to bring a new unique problem to solve, and the smiles from your customers when they find out they don't have to buy a new machine but may get many more years from the one you repaired is part of the satisfaction you receive as a service technician.

    Chip, thank you so much for the troubleshooting video. I had a clicking, but not running issue. Ran through all of the technician testing manual, and everything had continuity and proper resistance. The only thing I didn’t do was pop out the control board from the white plastic. I watched your video and immediately went back to the dryer and popped out the board. Sure enough, the heater relay burnt out. Found a replacement board online and the dryer is back in working order. Many thanks again for sharing and saving me a bunch of cash.

      If it’s a new “used” board it could be, or it’s possible that another component might be the issue. Thanks for watching!

    I love how you go over what you were doing in each narration, and explained your troubleshooting in such a concise manner. Your video helped us fix our dryer. Ours is a GE and clicked the same. We also just had a loose wire. Took a while to fix but ultimately we were able to fix ourselves with the help of your video!!!!

      There are different model numbers in that series. Can you provide that? Look on the sticker inside the door. Most of the time the problem isn't the start button. Thanks for watching!

    Hi Chip.
    I have a midea gas dryer that has a major problem.
    I have a natural gas smell coming from the exhaust vent of the midea gas dryer. and not one person who I have talked to about the dryer problem. do not know what is going on with it.... plus they do not have any diagrams on that gas dryer on google.. if you can PLZ help.

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have very limited experience with gas dryers and none with the Midea. But, I would say you are not getting enough air for a complete combustion or you are getting too much gas. You might try changing the coils. If the smell is occurring when the machine is off you have a leak. Thanks for watching!

      I have an LG. I try to start it on towels mode and it does a click, click, click. 3 Clicks it makes. I replaced the full control board and thermal fuse and also made sure the door switch was working. 1st tried full control board. No luck. Def checked the door switch and that was ok. Lastly changed the thermal fuse. Still mskrs the 3 click click click sounds.

    • @HarperandKnowles
      @HarperandKnowles  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tcr9315 no, it’s just a micro switch that opens when the belt breaks and the idler pulley falls against its actuator. It keeps the motor from starting when the belt tension is absent.
