    You might try a heat gun on the body to bring back the plastic oils to the surface. I use that on old hard black plastic car parts which have gone grey similar to that case. Heat it slowly so you bring up the oil from inside, but not melt the plastic. Have done this on hundreds of parts, the color seems to hold for a long time.

    Love your channel, I have many zebco reels, My favorite is my zebco One reel, super smooth and durable. I have one of these same early 808 reels that has a worn pinion gear, do you know of a source for parts?

    I just had this same real (1984 build) given to me. Drag whas frozen, won't lock after casting and turning crank (anti reverse) and only reels in when line is under tension.
    The plastic ring on the brake has separated from the metal base. Can I glue it back on?
    Took the covers off, and it was packed with axle grease. I've never tried rebuilding one but thought this would be a good one to learn on.

    • @OutFishing13Matthew
      @OutFishing13Matthew  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@my67falcon you can use contact cement to glue the brake ring back in. Have you changed the fishing line? That helps. Clean all that old grease and use new grease.

    • @my67falcon
      @my67falcon 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @OutFishing13Matthew
      No on the line. Not sure what test it is but it's some thick stuff. Far thicker than my 20lb on my 888. I got the grease cleaned out and, with the exception of the line only reeling in under tension, it works again. I see why you recommend changing the line as that seems to be why it's doing that. It doesn't spool worth diddly.

      @@michaelbrock6222 I think either would work well and could use heavy line. Zebco has made an 808 blowfish reel for years. I don't see them anymore though. The modern 808 is a great reel too and could be used for bow fishing with heavy line too. I think you could use 30 pound mono, but you could use 50 to 100 pound braid too.
