I love when musicians smile when they are playing. It shows they're being immersed in the music, rather than trying to come off as cool and kept. I find myself doing this as well.
What a beautiful song but is AMAZING HOW THIS GUY CAN PLAY AND CONTROL THIS WONDERFUL DRUM WITH MIDI DEVICES AND TRIGGERS!!!!!!! I WANT TO LEARN TO PLAY THE DRUM LIKE HIM, HELLO FROM MEXICO!!!!
it makes me smile when you see drummers mouthing along to the song in the classic humming/drum language hybrid. shows they are paying attention to whats being played. hes all : hmmmm hmmmmm, ba da da.
@chrisrobertsotb probably he places the trigger devices directly on the rims, so that they can capture the vibrations produced when he hits the rims instead of the heads.
is a 13 ¼" hybrid hihat k custom series, customed for akira jimbo by zildjian, most of his cymbals are k custom hybrid series =) developed like two years ago
Dude it's the fact that he's incorporating the kit with songs. Plus Akira was adding electronics to his kit since his days with Casiopea over 25 years ago(4 way independence takes forever to develop) Plus he used to play guitar and piano before he started to play drums at the age of 17 and the song from 2:35 to 6:16 is a original song he made.

@Khironification it's just a regular pad with a program changing setting.Everytime he hits that pad, the sounds/midi map are changed.
