    A great alternative for gel is flax seed gel. I take about a cup of the natural seed and put it in boiling water, let it boil for 10-15 minutes or to a consistency you like, then I use a straining bag and squeeze the gel once cooled. It’s nutrient dense, packed with proteins, can lay edges, help set styles, and my personal favorite, it’s an amazing pre poo. Hope that helps, God bless you all ❣️

    So awesome that you never had a relaxer, 4 of my 5 daughters had relaxers, but now everyone is natural. My baby girl never had a relaxer because her hair is a mixture of curly and kinky. If I would have had more information about natural hair back in the 90’s , I won’t have kept everyone’s hair natural.

I have natural salt and pepper hair and I have to be careful what products to put on my hair so that I do not turn it yellow. My last blow dry by a professional was in 2017. Continue encouraging others. In Jesus name. Amen!!

    I absolutely love your overall attitude of love and appreciation for your natural hair. My approach is almost the same as yours (no heat, no artificial hair, etc.) I also feel the same way about coloring my hair. My dark brown hair has a natural auburn/reddish tint to it which can be seen in the sun. My husband really loves my natural highlights and also loves my natural silver streaks that are coming in. His attitude about what God gave me matches my own. Thanks also for the advice about using caster oil to smooth edges. I too never use gel. Lovely video and your hair is gorgeous. Peace.

    Hello ma'am. First timer on your channel here. I'm a lifelong naturalista like you too. I've never relaxed my hair but I started this journey of proper hair care in 2014. GOD has been faithful. You are beautiful. As for grey hair, I see it on the head of my Church's general superintendent virtually every week and it's gloriously beautiful. I personally have zero qualms about it. I too believe in keeping with my GOD-given natural hair colour, which is pitch black . I don't mean to pry, but are you Nigerian? Your last name got me curious. Love from Nigeria.

    Hi, first time to your channel. Thank you for your time sharing all about how to take care of natural hair. It is great you coconut oil the fractionize type, shea butter, sweet almond oil and olive oil for your hair. You do have a lot of and volumes of beautiful hair! That is a lot of love and dedication we all should and embrace it. I have 4c hair that is coarse and it is always dry at the ends at least 2inches of the ends are dry. I cannot use coconut oil of solid in a jar or fractionized oil makes my hair feel hard. I cannot use for moisturizing. I tried shea butter on the hair and it makes limp and stiff and will not have any curl pattern. I wash my hair with a shampoo and conditioners without sodium lauryl or laureth sulfate (SLS) is a (foaming agent) That why there is lather. It isn't good because it is a chemical that cause scalp irritation and skin and dries the hair. Reading about SLS in 4c hair is claim to do well for the4c type of hair in which I cannot agree. On the market most hair products contain so much chemicals and has been that way for years especially in perms. As if this is the only way to wash the hair and conditioners, perms, gels leave in conditioners curl creams, etc. I have been trying to be organic as much as possible using products that do not have the harsh chemicals. I have been trying Avocado butter, Avocado oil, Mango butter on my hair by melting a teaspoon of each and 1/2 teaspoon of the avocado oil in a double boiler method or in a sauce pan. apply to my hair while it is wet and then twist the hair in sections and let it air dry. At night I cover my hair with a silk scarf. I cannot leave it twisted up since I work in the office so I have to untwist my wear and wear my hair out for a week. If it is humid I have to put in a bun in the back not on top like the (pineapple) style.

    • @MrsCharityUmar
      @MrsCharityUmar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Charmaine if coconut oil doesn’t work you may have to experiment with other oils. Shea butter is more ‘friendly’ to the hair when it is mixed with other oils in a whipped form, you may have to give that a try for best results.
      As far as the dry ends, you may deep condition your hair often to infuse moisture and strength your hair. Also invest in protective styling where the ends of your hair is hidden in the style ie: a bun to preserve your ends and protect it from drying out so much which could lead to breakage.
      As far as shampoo, sure please use whatever works best for your hair.

    I agree with all your recommendations but I do dye my gray hair only because I only get gray around my edges and I do not like that, once it starts to cover my entire head, I will not dye it anymore. Now, I do leave my hair in a protective style for about a month but I shampoo it every two weeks while in the protective style and add a leave-in condition, and seal either with Almond oil or hair grease after each shampoo, to keep my hair moisturized. I mist my hair daily with Aleo Vera juice mixed with Almond oil and a few drops of rosemary oil, also, I grease my scalp with grease, why, my scalp is very DRY and loves the grease since I have been doing this my hair has flourished, passed bra length and growing, and one last thing, I drink a lot of water!!! It has been over ten years since I have last put any heat to my hair, it air dries.

    Hair when I’m wet detangling/combing since I have fine natural hair. I’d much rather comb while it’s dry.

    • @PixelPaperDesigns
      @PixelPaperDesigns 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Some ppl can actually comb their hair while dry or wet. Since each individual is different with different texture, it may be easier for some to comb while dry without any breakage and vice versa. To each is own. You have to do what's best for you regardless what anyone prefer, recommend, or demand you to do. I have very thick, coarse and wooly hair and I can comb my hair dry if it's already moisturized. If it's extremely dry I will moisturize and then comb. Even with all the great tips my sis is giving, It is very helpful to some while it's not very helpful to others because we're all different and not all things work for every one. I luv wearing braids. I do my own hair. I just keep my scalp and hair clean, moisturize with the right products ,and leave my hair alone until it's time to rewash.

    Caster oil does not grow hair. It doesn't penetrate the hair strand/cuticle nor does it mimic natural sebrum. It does however seal the cuticle layer preventing moisture from entering the strand. It has its purpose but sadly, hair growth isn't one of them. Hair grows from the scalp, not topic.
    The other tips are very very beneficial and aids in hair retention.

    • @traceydumase
      @traceydumase 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Granted, it is good for trapping moisture and also leaves the hair feeling quite soft. It doesn't grow hair as far as penetration but it does help in the overall moisture retention which will essentially reap benefits of growth coupled with other hair maintenance habits i.e. length retention

    • @MrsCharityUmar
      @MrsCharityUmar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      “…castor oil is rich in ricinoleic acid-a type of fatty acid found to fight inflammation. When applied to the scalp, it's purported to enhance the health of the hair follicles and, in turn, promote hair growth (as well as protect against hair loss).”
      I personally have experience hair growth in areas where castor oil was applied to my scalp.
      Thanks for the added information🙏🏽.

    I've done all of this and more for years and my hair is still stuck so I'm thinking that my hair can't even handle being Twisted even though I only finger detangle as gentle as can be. I'm going to start doing low buns and invest in some satin scrunchies and do it really loose because at least I have a little bit past shoulder-length now and I can do a loose bun. My hair is super thin and break easily and just will not grow any further.

      In addition to satin hair tools, I would recommend deep conditioning regularly to help strengthen the hair and invest in protective styling (hiding the ends of your hair in styles ie: buns, pinned twists etc).
      Over exposure of the ends of the hair leads to dryness and will hinder length retention. Also moisturize between styles at least every 3 days. Hope these help!

    I do agree with most of what you said, and yes I do believe we need to embrace our natural beautiful hair god gave us. But girl I can't handle my hair without stretching it out with that blow dryer. And I'm sorry but I don't touch my hair for at least 3 to 4 months at a time. I do my hair 3 to 4 time a year, that's it. Washing hair every week is to much, who have the time bravo for them, but for me no way. And my hair is doing just fine.

    • @MrsCharityUmar
      @MrsCharityUmar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh very interesting that you do your hair 3-4 times a year. You most likely have trained your hair to accommodate your lifestyle. Good to know that your hair is doing fine.

    Girl I hope my journey is successful as yours. I just got rid of wigs after wearing them over 10 yrs. My hair is wry fine with a few spots from traction alopecia. I can already tell my hair is growing. But I can't keep my hands out of it lol, because I want to nourish it now. Is it best that I just leave it alone or should I keep showing the extra tlc I have showing to it lately.????
    I don't wear braidds I just tie it back after moisturizing it. My journey is only 1 mth in. I have yet to cut my ends as well because I just want to "leave my hair alone" after years of wigs and pulling

    • @MrsCharityUmar
      @MrsCharityUmar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Definitely show your hair love😊. Keep it hydrated and moisturized on a regular basis. Also deep condition often to help strengthen and prevent breakage. I would recommend doing twists after you moisturize as well to prevent tangling and subsequent breakage.

    Beautiful and wise young woman! I loved how you always mentioned the name of the LORD in all your routines! God bless you mightily in Jesus Christ name! Thank you for this informative and educational video, and for reminding me to love my natural hair. I was born with a very beautiful head of hair in Africa, soft cascading curls, came to the USA, and ruined my hair. I am approaching 60 years old, hair with beautiful silver streaks in it. I am now appreciating the beauty of my natural hair! Praise God! May He forgive me for ruining the beautiful gift bestowed upon me.

      It’s definitely possible to grow hair without extensions. At the short stage, Be sure to hydrate your hair every 3 days with water and seal with oil and cream. Also massage your scalp daily for optimal hair growth.

    Thank you for this tutorial! I thank the LORD that you mention how you incorporate our Abba Father in even your hair care. I love that you give HIM all the GLORY and that you speak of how HIs GRACE allows you to do this and that with your hair. WE NEED GOD'S GRACE for EVERYTHING that we do! This is so very refreshing. I do not want to do ANYTHING ELSE WITHOUT THE LORD'S GRACE. The LORD bless and keep you, my sister in Christ Jesus! I will try these methods as best I can! I love you, in JESUS CHRIST'S NAME. I pray HIS PROTECTION with HIS BLOOD over you and your entire family, and may the LORD continue to PROSPER you with GOOD HEALTH, and PROSPERITY, as HE wishes above all things that we achieve. May FRUITFULNESS that is GOOD continue to be your portion, in the name of CHRIST JESUS for FREELY GIVING as you have received! GOD BLESS YOU WITH HIS INNUMERABLE BLESSINGS, in the name of Jesus Christ! AMEN. (btw... I have subscribed to your channel, and I also hit that notification 🔔) THANK YOU, AGAIN!🩷💃🏾🤗

    Hi, you are truly beautiful inside and out. Thanks for this refreshing, unfortunately scarcely heard, point of view about black, natural hair. We as a people are so beautiful. I have been growing my hair naturally for the past 10 years but repetitive combing has caused it to be in a constant state of breakage. A few months ago I permed it and I regret this bc I live in the UAE and the water over here does not agree with black, processed hair so my hair broke off completely in 5-6 months. I'm now back to square one with growing my hair out. I also have a lot of grey hair and I'm not ready to be out in the world with all this grey hair visible. I use henna... any advice?
