ARTPOP is without a doubt one of the best songs in Lady Gaga's entire discography, I can't imagine other "pop stars" writing and singing something like this. For me it's in Gaga's Hall of Fame along with Bad Romance, Marry the Night and Babylon. Thanks for the review!
I like what you said about how you think about whether a pop artist/entertainer is doing what they do for the business or the art of making music. I love Lady Gaga because she cares so much about her craft, and ArtPop - the album - is a prime example of how she prioritized making music she was passionate about over creating something that would guarantee mass appeal. ArtPop the song is kind of her thesis for the way she feels about her art, and therefore makes it a special moment in her discography. Few pop stars get this introspective about the act of creating art.
She is telling about hybrid of Art and Pop, that her heart beats with both bricks (art) and strings (pop) Happy Birthday! Many thanks and best wishes 💚
Happy BDay Jersh! This one has a cool trancey kinda ambience, that little half chord switch up at the end of the chorus is interesting. Also with the other commenters on the coexistance or 'Art' and 'Pop', they can be different, similar, whatever. You see the 'Art/creation as therapy' pop up on the Talent competition shows a lot, like X Factor, The Voice, Got Talent etc auditions can tend to lay it on really heavy with the 'who has the most inspirational backstory Olympics' (but you dont 'need' it to still create art as another commenter said); then on the other hand you can see with some artists struggling with the business machine and clashing with the label when it comes to single choice, looks or music genres for example. All this coming out of that discussion about the meeting of Art and Pop which "could mean anee-thing". ;)
"I try to sell myself but I am really laughing, because I just love the music not the bling" is one of my favorite individual lines on the album. Something about her delivery of the line almost makes it sound to me like she's both laughing AND crying about it, which I think really fits the theme she's going for with the line, re: art for profit vs expression
Happy Birthday Jersh!! 😄 Also, maybe it’s just me, but I’d HIGHLY recommend you to check out her performance of Artpop with Sir Elton John. Not only you’re gonna love it, but it also feels like the most complete and definitive version of this song 😱
@SuperJersh Happy Birthday Jersh! I hope you had a good one! Also, ARTPOP is a very good song! I love the way you played it on the guitar! Fucking cool man! 🤘😎🤘
Happy Birthday. Luv your reactions. Artpop is one of my faves on this album. I also luv the performance that she did of this song with the Muppets. Very funny. The whole special was great. A great use of Artpop / Pop Art.
i think this is one of her best songs, but definitely the final album version doesn't do justice compared to the live version. and yes, basically the song is about pain and art at the same time, the verse "the melody that you choose can rescue you", she was going through a HARD and savage time when she was creating the ARTPOP album, she had so much hope and illusion for the project and everything got messed up. the verses: "a hybrid can withstand these things", she believes that art and pop separated can be destroyed, but together, can withstand and survive above everything, that's also about "we could belong together", pop sings to art and viceversa, also her and we, the fans, we belong together. "my heart can beat with bricks and strings", about how she survived. "my ARTPOP could mean anything" means that her, as the artist, creates something that means actually something, but we as the public, we can take a brush and transform the meaning into something else, give it our own perspective, exactly what you do with every reaction and interpretation about her songs, i know she would love to hear your opinions, i just know she would say "the song is about this, but it could mean whatever you want" 😄😄 the live version is 100% superior. and HAPPY BIRTHDAY JERSH, hope you have a good one ❣❣❣❣❣❣
One of my moms favorites is ‘the crimson idol’ by wasp, the subject is all about ‘the cash machine’ but you’d have to react to the whole album as a whole to get the full picture.
Happy birthday jersh, this is one of my favorite songs of lady Gaga, love the lyrics and the vibes in general, but I prefer the live version. Please react to the performance of swine on the swjw festival, you will really see how deep lady Gaga went in this era and I think it will help you have a better perspective of what this era meant for her at the time.
I mean this is a totally different genre but could you react to Xscape? They’re an amazing girl group of the 90’s th-cam.com/video/iDHggk9NlN8/w-d-xo.html

It’s so nice to see this album being revisited and getting your interesting point of view of the whole package! Great job!

Art talks to pop in the first verse. Pop talks to art in the second verse. Read the lyrics again, you'll see what I mean. I love it.
Thank you for giving us this gift on your birthday. This is one of my favorites of hers. And it's so great live.
Always a joy to see my favorite guy on youtube, hi Yoshi!

Oh and the title of the full G.U.Y. video is 'G.U.Y. (An ARTPOP Film)" and is the 11min46s one (theres a couple minutes of just credits at the end) :)
Happy birthday Jersh! This is probably my favorite song of hers (of all of them) the lyrics and the music just seem like trance-inducing
