Nobody worked as hard or personally sacrificed so much of himself and his health as Larry Bird did. Its one of the biggest reasons he earned the nickname LARRY LEGEND - and he earned it the hard way. Magic was right there will never be another Larry Bird.

It speaks volumes for both Magic and Larrys content of character that even after spending years in such an intense rivalry they were still able to put it all aside at the end and show such respect and love for each other as best friends, we will never see the
likes of either again not just as players but as men.

The kids today should watch this show. It lays it out why Larry was one of the all time greats.
If we could go back in person to watch that Lakers-Celtics finals series, what an experience that would be! They brought it from the parking lot into the building and onto the court.
Also, you have to give it to Dennis Johnson for being heads-up and going in for that clutch layup after Bird stole it.

If DJ was caught sleeping, Larry'd surely let him have it. It wouldn't surprise me if Larry didn't give him the heads up before the inbound pass. Larry knew it before Lambier did.

Anyone that watches Bird has to be inspired by his play because he never gave up and was able to do so many incredible things during the span of his career. Today - in the game against Indiana, Bird would have failed the concussion protocol and been prevented from coming back on the court. He was examined and told "larry you have given everything you have to this game and cannot play" Bird supposedly nodded and then when he had the chance he ignored the advice and came back onto the court AND look at his face = he is upset his team is losing and he is determined to win this game!! He led Boston to victory and his performance was so impressive the fans and his teammates were screaming their approval at his performance and even the opposing team had not seen anything like this. Bird was so dedicated to his team I have to tell a story from Peter May's book titled "The Big Three" pages 232-233 where Cleveland's Dell Curry ( Steph's Father) accidentally elbowed Bird in the eye and fractured his eye socket and Bird had double vision in that eye. Bird stayed in the game and would not tell team physician Arnold Scheller anything. Bird was seeing 2 rims with that eye and he was still hitting shots in that game. Double vision does not go away quickly and this is when Bird was wearing the goggles for several games ( he was on the cover of SI). Later in the same book = pgs 266 -267 Bird admits to playing in games late in his career where his feet could not feel the floor. A normal person would probably have trouble walking in that condition and Bird somehow willed himself to play basketball at an NBA level?? I find that fascinating and an example of Bird's determination to win. This guy had a love of the game and the heart of a lion.

I had a VCR at the time, and would tape all the games and I had to keep replaying that moment over and over again because I couldn't believe what I had just seen. I'm glad you young guys are putting Bird back out there. I'm not sure he's the GOAT, but he's unique. Maybe the greatest pure player EVER. Jordan is hard to deny. The game in those days was different. More physical. The whistles didn't ring out like they do in today's game. So you had to play tough. I played high school ball in the eighties, and we used to laugh when people called it a "non contact sport". It was rough.

Larry Bird played every single second of every single game, to its fullest. Bill Walton said it, "the game was over; the Celtics had lost." But it was not over to Larry Bird. There was still time on the clock to make something happen, and he played EVERY second -- he made it happen. That's the difference between being a great player and being a legend.

Its a rare thing to see the opposing team going off the court even though they lost showing Larry such awe and respect touching him like he was annointed - Moments like Larrys comeback with a fractured eye socket and concussion in this game on top of his bad back to start with and doing his very best to get his team the win and many other reasons are why he so definitely earned and solidly deserves his nicknames - LEGEND and "Basketball Jesus". We thank you Larry for all the herculean efforts and seldom seen self sacrifice that has few if any equals in the NBA. As much as I love Larry, watcing this again both him and Dominique played like true champions and as Larry said we both deserve to win but someone has to go home (or similar) -- Dom was younger than bird, more athletic and just like the video said Dom was a human highlight reel, even Dominique him self said that 4th quarter was a literal shoot out back and forth shot for shot - Dominique had NOTHING to be ashamed of in losing because he gave Larry and the Celtics all they could handle, one of the best 4th quarters ever seen in the NBA.

Shoot, I even miss Magic and the Lakers, and I never thought I would feel like that. That said, I enjoy watching it through Solid's eyes. It's entertaining, for sure. The thing about Larry and Magic is they took the NBA out of obscurity and got it into prime time, the Sunday Double Header for the NBA always had the Boston Celtics as the early game and then followed by the Lakers in the later game and yet neither game started before 1p.m. in either market because of the time zone differences. The NBA quite possibly wouldn't exist if it wasn't for Larry and Magic, if they didn't save it we would not have had MJ, AI, the Admiral, Tim Duncan, or LeBron James. Something to think about folks.

I wince every time I see Larry fall on his face. Can't imagine what that was like. check it out at 23:27. You can see how his fingers were crooked.
He won it for Terre Haute, which was a great way to give credit to his college town. It is so hard to pick a play, because there were so many when he just made a difference in one way or another, just being there and not giving up is the most important. Love his teammates. All of them.

Great reaction video! I think you should definately do more longer videos broken into segments. I highly suggest you do the best documentary out there "Magic & Bird - A Courtship of Rivals". Your videos are great, and have gotten me to subscribe. Thank you!

Just saw a Bird shirt that I really want & can't find it anywhere 😭 It's a "Massachusetts state bird" shirt with Larry shootin a ball & he has giant eagle wings 💜
Did you see, recently, the story about Magic & Worthy re: what they were doing during halftimes? I really wish I never saw that.

And when Larry played home games, he'd look up at the rafters and fixate on Bobby Orr's retired number hanging up there.

Follow the progression from Bird and his passing to the way MJ passed. And on down the line to KB and Luca. It all starts with Bird.

I broke my pinkie finger during volleyball practice in college. I had to pull over while I was driving to the ER because I almost passed out behind the wheel. Stopped the car and barely got the car door open before I puked in the parking lot. I can't even wrap my MIND around going back to the game with a fucked up back AND a broken face and winning!

Dude I don't know if youve already heard this one but maybe others haven't, but the famous Pat Riley said..."IF I HAD TO CHOOSE A PLAYER TO TAKE A SHOT TO SAVE A GAME I WOULD CHOOSE MICHAEL JORDAN, IF I HAD TO CHOOSE A PLAYER TO TAKE A SHOT TO SAVE MY LIFE......
    I'D TAKE LARRY BIRD."
That says a lot about what a cold-blooded, dart throwing cat that Larry was. 🏀🔥🏀🔥🏀🔥🏀

Wilt Chamberlain, Bill Russell and Larry Bird are thee Only ones in history who Won 3 Consecutive NBA League MVP's. I'd say Bird was in the conversation as the G.O.A.T. consideration.

This makes me sad. LB is the best player of my lifetime and when he retired he took all the excitement with him. It’s like waiting for another Secretariat, Elvis, or JFK to come along.

This says it all for me:
    NBA MVP voting 1980s
1980 - Kareem, Dr. J, Gervin, Bird (rookie oty)
    1981 - Dr. J, Bird
    1982 - Moses, Bird
    1983 - Moses, Bird
    1984 - Bird
    1985 - Bird
    1986 - Bird
    1987 - Magic, Jordan, Bird
    1988 - Jordan, Bird
1989 - out due to injury
