  • As part of Black History Month, the City of Sheffield hosted its first-ever African Caribbean Market, complete with music, food, entertainment and much more.
The week-long event was created by award-winning mental health and wellbeing organisation ADIRA, with support from Sheffield City Council.
Hear from organisers, attendees and stallholders about what it means to host and be a part of such a historic milestone for the city.
Additionally, KLTV also visited the Sheffield Moor Market, to view the incredible work of Gwen Madden and the Voice of Vision Community Project, who have built an outstanding recreation of a 1970s African Caribbean 'Front Room' for their upcoming play based on the West Indian migration experience.
Featuring all the hallmarks of a traditional front or 'best' room, including artwork, decor and ornaments perfectly and painstakingly organised, it is truly a sight to behold. They even had bottles of Cherry B Wine in the cabinet!
It was a fabulous experience for all involved, with local residents stopping to marvel at the display. Gwen and her daughter Kelly, share their stories and inspiration behind the front room.
