Jesus Christ, I'm used to seeing Dave in hoodies or other long sleeved shirts and didn't realize how fuckin jacked his arms are still!! That's crazy!

Thanks for addressing the beginners, Dave. This even helps intermediate and even advance lifters to solidify things they already know.

I avoided doing bench for a long time, because I feel so wobbly. This is literally the perfect video. I have press day tomorrow, actually stoked to bench now. Really means a lot to beginners to have this level of professional coaching for free on youtube. Thank you!

Very informative and practical - I agree we forget the foundation and go too fast. Literally the cue of “drive your feet into the floor before picking the bar up” was great as I only pushed into the floor on concentric portion, relaxing at the top and in the eccentric

Great video Dave! I worked up to a 405 Raw Bench press yesterday and smoked it. I'm not big on a super arch like Mendelson but I do have a slight arch and stay very tight. I'm 5'7 246 pounds so it is hard for me to get super arched. My goal is to get 500 raw in a USPA meet at 242 pounds. I benched 440 raw in a USPA meet a few years ago. I'm still trying hard to reach that 500 raw bench press goal. I'm never going to give up. Thanks for your vids! They really keep me motivated.

#elitefts this is possibly the best "bench press setup" video I've ever seen. With the abundance of information out there, this bare bones style guide is fantastic. I've always questioned and played with my bench setup trying to get it "right" yet this video has brought me back to the start and helped me tremendously. I hope Dave knows how good this is. Would love to see a very similar style video for the squat and deadlift, please!

Dave, I competed in Powerlifting for 30 yrs. Then all my injuries caught up to me and I had many joint surgeries. I took about 7 yrs off and was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes. The Crunch gym I go to has all their Benches that seem too low, I actually get dizzy when I try to lay down on one of their benches. I didn't know Diabetes messes with your equilibrium but I feel it does.
It is so low the avg female 5' 3 can keep her feet flat on the floor and I remember back in the day most women needed to put a 45lb plate to put their feet on. What is the height of a competition bench? Thanks.

Great video. I watch young kids all the time in the gym while their benching. 1. Feet continue to bounce and move. 2. body is not tight 3. big bouncing of bar off the chest. 4. Stability? There is never any. 5. Body twist and turns to try to finish a rep. I try to give them some advice so they don't hurt themselves but like I was at 14-17 years old they think they know everything! So I see them fighting to get 175lbs up and this old man 55 years old is doing 350-360lbs with a competition pause. And even though they see the old man lifting a lot, they still think they know better.
