I think that's because making lists of "who's the best" at this or that, who's "number 1, number 2, number 3" etc is usually a thing made by white people about white people 🤷🏻♂️ So you always read the names of Gadd, Weckl, Colaiuta, obviously Rich, then also Palmer, Peart, Portnoy, obviously Porcaro, sometimes Bozzio, Phillips, and nowadays Harrison etc etc. You don't read the same "ranking" bullsh*t - fortunately - about who's "the best" regarding drummers such as Baby Dodds, Papa Jo, Roach, Blakey, Philly Joe, Elvin, Tony etc. They're all great and they're all different, no point in "measuring" who's the single "greatest". That said, I LOVE Tony 😂😂😂
I recall watching this in the 80s. And was so impressed with Bradford Marsalis. Then a few years later seeing him as a ban leader on late night TV and was so disappointed. Now I understand why! Age makes u better.
Saw the Marsalis quintet live a few months later. Very impressed like with this clip. Strange to imagine that Herbie was into Rock it around this period
@kapalin846Tony played hard when it was appropriated to play hard; he also played very soft - to the point of stopping playing at all. But some people only notice the "muscolar", "hard-playing" Tony, and it's a mistake - same with Max, Art, Elvin etc: they were also great "soft" accompanyists
Wynton has amazing tone and more chops than Miles ever did, but he ain't nothing on him. Being gifted and being a genius is two different things. Not bagging him. Still a pleasure to listen too.
Man. Tony Williams again. Can’t get enough of this guy. Constantly lighting fires under the band. Incomparable. Awesome. Herbie knows.

Just don’t forget Ron Carter on the bass
Tony is the man! Vinnie’s all time hero and that’s saying something.
Steve Gadd was promoted as the most transcendent drummer over the last 40 years. Tony Williams deserves that title
