The story: A family of 3 is expecting another baby, but when the mother goes into labor, the baby is a stillborn. The mother starts to go crazy because she can't mentally handle the loss of her baby. She kidnaps the daughter and keeps her locked up in the house with her because she couldn't handle loosing another child. The "bad man" is the father. The mother calls him bad because he's trying to rescue the daughter and get help for his wife, but since she's crazy she doesn't see that. The mother continues on with her "normal" life with her daughter while thinking the baby is still alive, hence the bear labeled "Natalie's favorite" and the daughters diary saying "She talks about her like she's really here and it worries me. What is she is real and I just can't see her?"

I only cringed when the baby cried because I hate it when they cry. Like, they want something, but you don't know what. Do you get what I'm saying? It doesn't annoy me, just saddens me and makes me panic. If we want something, we're like "Oh, I'm hungry/constipated/pained/sad/happy/angry/scared/etc." The only thing babies can do is cry.

The only thing that disables them from being able to communicate is that they don't know how as their body can't function or coordinate or support themselves to meet their desire so they throw a tantrum cause that's the only thing their bodies could do :/

I once has a perfect, "holy shit I'm in silent hill" moment, when I went into an old basement of a church with lots of hallways, only to find a fucking wheelchair sitting in a corner. If you don't know what silent hill is or have never played it, it's a horror game published by konami, and throughout it, especially the third one, you'll find random wheel chairs sitting around throughout the church and other areas. Also, that's not true at all,. I know people like to pretend that churches are just these safe, untouchable havens, but the reality is that they are just buildings, built by people just like your house and grocery store. I've been to and have heard about many churches that were filled with poltergeists and violent activity.

This game is intense! So what I think happened is the mother wanted a second child very badly, but got a stillborn, and she was so traumatized that she denied Nicky being stillborn. Sounds like the mother started to go insane and locked her first child in a room to protect her from the "bad man." I have two theories about the bad man, one being the mother believes someone came and simply took Nicki from her, making her want to protect Samantha. The other theory is that the doctor is the bad man, and he wants to have the mom taken away to go see a psychiatrist. The mom obviously does not think she is crazy, so she believes that the doctor took Nicki and is trying to take the mom and Samantha too. Just some theories for you to think about!

Where the game scares you into thinking there is something in a room when there isn't.
Where you think you're alone but you aren't.
Which in my opinion, is the only true horror game because of the amount of effort it'd take to get that form of a reaction from people.
Though I know I'm not the only one to tell you this but felt like sharing.
It seems that the only time you see that type of horror now is in indie developers, since the big-leagues just shove jumpscares and screamers and call it horror. Very few horror games AND MOVIES now are anything except jumpscare-mania.

Agreed. There's a huge difference between activating someone's visual reflexes (like jump-scares do) and actually giving someone nightmares for a few weeks.
Example: Dead Space vs Dead Space 3.
The first Dead Space game made me lose my shit a few times, but rarely startled me.
Dead space 3 only made me lose my shit when I started to think about how far down the crapper the series had gone in just 3 games... and tried to surprise me so often that I knew when it was going to try it again. Talk about a self defeating strategy.

On a completely unrelated note, I have to change my underwear.
As a mammal that cares for young, we feel the need to protect those who are young and defenseless against anything.Even if the child isn't ours, we feel it our duty to go forth and care for this child. That is why, when the baby was crying, we felt scared confused, and even sad, because we felt as if we are not doing enough in our power to protect and please the child. The baby was left alone, uncared for, and scared. When a child is upset or scared, we act. Simple as that. And yes, the baby crying did unnerve me. :P

The baby crying, while he circled the crib, trying to figure out what to do, just broke my heart. Normally baby ghosts creep me out, but this one kicked my maternal instincts into high gear for some reason. Also, as soon as he read those diary entries, I thought postpartum psychosis and I was right. This is all so SAD!

The one door you didn't check in the last house had a key for the others. There were a few interesting things behind the doors. I explored the rooms in my video, I liked the sounds of people in the pews and the room with the plates.

And I heard the baby cry for a second... He went back to the crib... Blood... It hurt... It makes me glad that my baby sister wasn't stillborn... I know my aunt had a stillborn... My cousin was born sick... She has to take steroids now.. She has arthritis and she's always so tired... I remember she used to look so adorable... But with the medicine she's on... Her face is fatter, and...Stiff... She hurts so much... And since she moved so long ago... It hurts. She was my best friend. We talked about our problems all the time... We played games together... We played dolls together... And then she had to move... She's only three years younger than me... She was so special...

I always respect game developers who know the power of _not_ using jumpscares. They know and understand that there's more power of not knowing what's out there, and the uncertainty is eating away at you until you can't take it anymore.

When the baby was crying the mother in me burst forward. I wanted to cradle them in my arms, dry their tears, tell them it is alright, sooth them, and sing them a lullaby to hush their crying and lay them to sleep. Or hold them in my arms in my rocking chair.

This should be obvious (at least to me it seems that way), but the game is about a miscarriage and a mother subsequently going insane from the death of her baby. (A) she didn't kill the baby (B) it's not a demonic baby (yeah I actually saw that comment).
