Re 11:00 Nembhard discussion: there was an open gym episode where Nick was raving about Nembhard in the draft workouts. Said he had a near perfect workout. So no I don’t buy they wanted Koloko all along (respectfully)

In my mind, I think RJ as well as Scottie are the two certainties in Toronto. Gotta keep the home town player who is clearly motivated to be a Raptor.

who is rj guarding in the playoffs. his likely match is a 6'8 wing unless you want to put IQ on the wing. that tells you unless rj defence improves vastly which it likely wont, he ends up being a deangelo russel in the playoffs hunted for easy buckets.

@@giovanni-ed7zq you have a LOT of negative comments to make about the Raptors. Is this your team? Yah, ideally RJ gets much better on D. Ideally all the players get better at a lot of things. I also think that the Raptors (like all teams) need to figure out TEAM defence, one guy isn't going to be the key at this stage. Do I think Gradey and RJ can both be starters, defs not unless both of them get much better on D. It's a long ways before I start imaging any Raptor's individual defensive matchups for a deep playoff run.

personally this slow roll of trading vets is stupid as the vast majority of raptors assets likely get you a 2nd round pick if any team willing to take em other than boucher and jakob poeltl. masai needs to bottom out and aim for a bottom 3 pick asap.
this hopium of hanging onto jakob poeltl thinking raptors are some playin team next year is an erotic dream not based in reality. the raptors need talent infusion in the draft next 3 years.
rj is likely not a long term fit as his defence is ass. i would trade him this year for a first if they got it. if gradey defence doesnt improve, he should be moved also as we dont need deangelo russels on the team hunted for easy baskets in the playoffs. also rj is gonna be looking for a max next contract so its probably better to trade him sooner than later, cuz he isnt worth a max with his defence.
even IQ may not be a long term fit. but if he plays like he is, no one will take him with his contract unless you attach two first round picks.

I'm with you on the bottom out comment. This rebuilds flaw is that they don't have near enough first round picks in the next several years. Here is some info that should somber up any Raptor rebuild dreamer. I'll let it speak for itself.
Teams with multiple first round selections over that period of Scotties 5yr extension:
2025: Brooklyn Nets (4), Oklahoma City Thunder (3), Utah Jazz (3)
      2026: Oklahoma City Thunder (2), Philadelphia 76ers (2), Toronto Raptors (2)
2027: Utah Jazz (4), Brooklyn Nets (3), Charlotte Hornets (2), Houston Rockets (2), Oklahoma City Thunder (2), San Antonio Spurs (2)
      2028: Charlotte Hornets (2), Chicago Bulls (2), Philadelphia 76ers (2)
2029: Utah Jazz (3), Brooklyn Nets (3), Houston Rockets (2), Portland Trail Blazers (2), Washington Wizards (2)
2030: All teams projected to have one pick.
2031: Brooklyn Nets (2), San Antonio Spurs (2)
Trading Poeltl for 1st rounder(s) would both add more to their future and help the tank this year and likely next. Although I like RJ I'd do the same with him. IQ has a poison pill contract so wouldn't net enough. Unfortunately these the guys have fundamental flaws (defense, spacing), that won't help to in the team development into anything more than a middling team.

Who do you got raptors taking if we get pick 2-5 not expecting raptors to get first pick if we do get pick 1 it’s a no brainer Cooper Flagg

    • @giovanni-ed7zq
      @giovanni-ed7zq 8 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

its likely harper, cuz he is a 3 level scorer who can ball handle well enough to create his own shot. no one on the raptors currently can ball handle well enough to take guys off the dribble or handle double teams to get a bucket. that means raptors dont have a legit number 1 or 2 scoring option on the team even. harper also plays defence.
ace bailey has the higher upside but is a zero defender.

Harper would fit darko’s system perfectly and the offense. He reminds me a lot of James harden and the raptors need a number 1 scorer he would make Scottie Barnes’s better right away

RJ is 24 and growing…2 seasons away from his prime. Right now he’s been an absolute hub on offense. He’s a decent on ball defender, and has been playing pretty good defense recently. People have to recognize it though. I watch OG die on screens every night in NY, and Mikal get cooked on ball. But, their reputations proceed them. There are VERY FEW players who brings what RJ does offensively and is a stud defender. It isn’t hard to bring Dick off the bench and start a guy like Walters or upgrade THAT position. I think you guys in Toronto need to appreciate what you have in RJ. Knicks were a Julius Randle playing GM 1 vs Mia from the ECF, where they had a shot at beating Bos that year, with RJ as their 2nd best player that postseason at 22yrs old. These narratives surrounding him are unfounded IMO. He plays the wings of Boston as well, or better, than any wing in the league. He’s only getting better as he matures as well. Toronto people need to look more at what he brings to the game.

@samsonfolk and es you need to stop including bucks or any 2nd apron team in a trade where raptors are 3rd team. the reality is no team that is in 2nd apron can aggregate salaries so if bucks do a trade they have to move 1 player for 1 player and match dollar for dollar. so there is no portis coming to raptors in a 3 team trade with bucks. and if its suns, i doubt beal is gonna waive his no trade clause to come to raptors, and its not like raptors would want his salary being in a rebuild. suns and bucks simply dont have the draft picks like the nuggets.

I mentioned in the podcast that they’ve had to make additional moves to get out of the 2nd apron. That’s why Connaughton was mentioned.

@samson folk in terms of tradeable players, the raptors have boucher and jakob poeltl basically. kelly olynyk was over paid and is making 12.5 million playing like a vet min player. no team is gonna trade for him. brown is over paid as well and masai made a mistake taking up his option. bruce brown has little value other than an expiring at this point and making 23 million, its unlikely the raptors will find a taker for him unless they want to shed salary. davion mitchell has no value in a trade other than filler.
so you looking at a 2nd or two 2nds for boucher. and a 10-15 first round pick for jakob poeltl.
yes masai screwed up trading for jakob poeltl giving up a top 8 pick and two 2nds for him. no team is gonna fix masai's screw up. they need to trade jakob and just draft a center cuz the spacing is horrible and jakob playing doesnt win games. they get blown out with jakob so may as well clean the slate and draft a young center to develop while rebuilding for 2-3 years.
in case you didnt notice, all teams have to do is plug the paint with jakob to beat the raptors.
and paying jakob 34-38 million a year for 4 years in an early extension will be an exercise in stupidity for masai being in a rebuild. if he doesnt extend jakob to his asking price because masai has no leverage, then jakob is two 2nds as an expiring in 2026 or you lose him for nothing as he said publicly he wants to be competing for championships and didnt leave the spurs to come to another rebuild.
yes there is two prices, the price for jakob to stay where raptors have to overpay, or jakob accepting less to play in a warm city in the us with less taxes on a contending team.
