Out of all the things in this absolutely perfect episode, one little detail I love is that Thors was being dragged down by corpses, too, while wearing his Jomsviking armor with his hand on his sword. We barely got to see it, but he was a lot like Thorfinn in his youth, and despite the symbol he became, Thors didn't become a true warrior in the end. In his final fight, he relied on his sword, even though he always preached that a true warrior doesn't need one. And he knew it, he said to Askeladd that he's not yet a master. And we get to see that visually here. It gives even more weight to Askeladd's dying words, "Don't stay in a damn boring place like this forever. Go further than Thors did, that's your true fight." And Thorfinn didn't understand that until now. Thorfinn has to climb and carry the souls of his victims to paradise. He has to climb like his father did and reach the summit like Thors was never able to. From here on, Thorfinn's on the path to becoming a true warrior. And Thors walking away at the end of the episode in pride for his son. He doesn't need to watch over his son anymore; he has nothing left to tell him. Thorfinn is finally joining him on his walk to paradise. It was just a perfect final coda to this masterpiece of storytelling.
I love this detail too! I'm not sure if this is wishful thinking, but I also want to believe that the last scene when Thors walks away after Thorfin rejects violence means he can finally rest in peace, now that his son has learned the lesson he tried to teach him
I still consider Thors a true warrior. Thorfinn is more dedicated to avoiding violence, but even he words it like he'll still do something if people he's in charge of are put in enough danger. Knowing Askeladd at this point, I can't see any other way they could've survived. Even then, Thors distinctly avoided serious wounds, ending the fight without a single life lost, save for his own. As monumental his death is for Thors, the way he died was an incredibly brave sacrifice, trading his own life for not only the lives of his son and fellow villagers, but the lives of his enemies as well. Even though he punched people, I still consider him a true warrior.
he's finally heeding Askeladd's dying words, and following after his Father.. the pacing for season 2 really made this moment as impactful as it deserved to be.. thank you Mappa, Wit Studio and Makoto Yukimura for this blessing.
I would even say that he did exactly what Askeladd asked him to do, go beyond Thors. Even Thors relied on his sword in the end, against Askeladd, he wasn't as much as a pacifist as his son became in this episode. Thorfinn is no longer walking in the foosteps of Thors, his are now larger than they were. I think it is also a bit of the metaphor of Thors walking away in the end, meaning how he can now rest peacefully knowing his son finally understood his path and went beyond him, beyond his guit, beyond his fathers limits...
I remember 1x18 Lola said it was a cathartic experience to see Canute go through his transformation. This was that for me ten times over, such a powerful episode
This episode reminded me a lot of 1x18 and it totally makes sense that both characters go through this type of development, literally in the opposite direction
Both this episode and 1x18 are the same type of development, in 1x18 Canute is empty after the loss of Ragnar and he has a similar dream to Thorfinn. Both Thorfinn and Canute embody that same thing that Sverkel says, "if you are empty you can fit anything inside of you". Difference is Thorfinn had Einar and Sverkel along with Thors and Askeladds lessons, Canute had the priest who essentially filled him with his own beliefs about love and death. But really the world just doesn't care but it's not my enemy either
This "Red Hell Pit" scene is so deep with a strong message which can be applied to real life. We all have that pit we are afraid to fall back into. Something bad or awful we did to someone, it always comes back to haunt us. It stays in one place (the pit) where other sins we commited by our own hands pile on top of each other like dead bodies. That feeling of helplessness along with depression is be one of the worst feelings in the world which the pit brings upon us. But despite all this, you CAN escape that pit. It will be painful and leave behind scars for life for you to remember but all scars eventually heal no matter how deep they are. You have to push yourself to escape from that dark pit. Crying won't help you, no one else can lift you out of the pit but what they if even if it's one person can do is motivate you to do better, only you can save yourself from the death awaiting in that pit. Truly a beautiful and deep episode and Thorfinn's VA did a fantastic job of giving us such a powerful motivating scream.
Einar played such an important role in Thorfinn's redemption... Einar unlocked the empathy in Thorfinn, made Thorfinn think deeper about all the people he killed, "Were the people I murdered kind and good like Einar"
The great thing about Makoto Yukimura's work is that I think it's not just the drawing ability, but the ability to persuasively depict how people's minds move and how they change. No matter how many times I watch this episode, I still cry(;_;) I also like your honest reactions^^
This is one of the greatest modern masterpiece of anime and manga that have been done greatly with great human persona and humanity displayed in every inch of the show
When I was reading the manga I was wondering how they could possibly do the panels justice in the anime. THEY DID SO GOOD. I cried while watching it 😭 This is the point where the anime separates the children from the adults. Who drops a show because the main character decides to become a better person??
One thing that got me excited when I read this is that people said this arc is phenomenal, and these first nine episodes are only a THIRD of what people talk about when praising Farmland Saga. The rest of this season is going to be amazing...
Girls, I just wanted to tell you that i have been following you since 2018. You are my favorite reactors. The way you fall in love with characters, the way you understand the show, especially Vinland Saga which is one on my favorite, make me feel a real pleasure watching you in your journey, and i even can follow back some series i already watch, again with you. Thank you and much love to you 2❤❤❤❤
I think people are entitled to their opinions regarding this show, although I've seen some talking about how the change from S1 to S2 is very drastic and "out of the blue". I wholeheartedly disagree with this sentiment, go back to the first four episodes of S1 after watching S2 Ep 9. The entirety of S1 was building us towards this episode, this show like other shows builds upon what came before.
I believe that the best thing any story can be, is to be GREAT at what it is and that's exactly what Vinland Saga is. I feel like those who dropped the show or are complaining never understood the show to begin with.
Theres a few L takes in the comments about this show. Literally episode 4 and 9 are two of the best episodes of the season so far because it’s so human. To say that its cheap and generic is blasphemous. 10/10 episodes. Think of the grander ideas to living a life without violence during this time. Is it possible? It’s already established that those that don’t fight are viewed as weak. The term “true warrior” is thrown about many times, but never explicitly defined. There’s so much to think about critically if you let yourself open up to it. Media is a form to evoke emotion from its viewer/listener/reader. Games, music, movies, shows, etc. On god these comments got me heated bro “so predictable” like go read a mystery novel if that’s your only criteria. Or “doesn’t challenge me intellectually” bro get out of here go read the stranger or something. If you can’t find beauty in this episode you’re actually a walking L person. You don’t have to give it a 10/10 but have better reasons frfr.
Vinland is such a great show probably my top 5 of all time and gives a great message that it's never too late to Change . And Thorfinn is such a great character and this season especially ,we will see him become a true warrior.
Someone I work with dropped it because he said this season was slow and boring. I'm guessing he binge watched the first season so yeah, it's probably a LOT slower. But if you got attached to Thorfinn? It's FANTASTIC. It's character growth. Askeladd really took over the first season. It really became HIS story. When he died, Thorfinn's reason for living stopped. Now he has something new to live for.
I love how you guys in the discussion are trying to understand and see it from peoples point of view that think this seasons boring and dropped it 😂😂that’s nice and all for you guys to do but we all know there objectively so wrong there not even close to being right there’s nothing bad you could say about this show the story and character development is literally as good as it gets 🤷♂️my friend put me on to this show a couple months ago and this show is a hidden gem I didn’t know I needed❤️
I think the reason this season divides a lot of people is because some watch anime to be entertained constantly as if it was a fairground ride. They don't want to get emotionally invested, they just want constant shock, drama and action which is totally fine. This season has so much emotional depth to it and really takes a deep dive into the characters thoughts and feelings that it won't be for everyone. I personally love these kind of scenes and as much as I like a good action based anime to me it doesn't compare at all to what we get with the Vinland Saga. I think its an absolute masterpiece.
I love it too, not just the episode, but the season as a whole so far. I can understand though how some wouldn't. It feels very personal to me and I'd imagine it wouldn't resonate as much with some. At the moment though at least it feels like it's going in a direction that's going to make it one of my favorite anime's of all time. I'm really trying to hold myself back from reading ahead to see if it keeps that up or not, but the adaptation's been so good I kind of don't want to spoil it in it's animated form. Besides, that one soundtrack theme that kicks in every time something emotional is happening nearly always makes me want to cry. As good as the manga may be it won't have that.
38:03 the anime is basically beat for beat as the manga, that being said I still think the manga has some very small moments that didn't make the anime adaptation that add to almost every aspect of the narrative.
I'd like to believe that Askeladd was on that pillar because he was never really a plain warrior. He might have made it out if he tried, but he decided to jump down into the pit to let Thorfin climb.
Honestly they would love the story of rurouni kenshin (anime) and the movie samurai x with it. It’s a bit older tho but similar type of message in the story and I loved it
I really like M's comments. I like both L and M's banter, but M surprises me with her understanding of visual allegories and symbolism. It's almost natural to her
girls were shaking their head in disbelief. yup, its that good. its that good. this episode, was truly powerful. although i have never seen you reply a lot on these comments, i know you have seen vikings(a live action series). id like to ask a question to you or anyone who has both seen vikings and vinland saga. how does that compare to this? or is it like comparing apples and pork(haha not orange) on how different they are?
When you two said people say “it’s so boring” because it’s not all action is what made me subscribe. People just want to see fights and don’t care for anything else which misses the point so entirely.
I'm seeing a pattern in the things you love watching: transformation, redemption, healing and characters becoming better people. You should read the Gospels. Pater is Latin for father. Pater the good father who Thorfinn needs, and symbolising God the Father.
Ngl Demon Slayer is kinda mid compared to other shows they are watching, but I won't deny that I would love to see them react to it. Demon Slayer doesn't do anything spectacular but it does the basics well. A show doesn't have to be spectacular to deserve a reaction. I would like it if they reacted
33° attempt recomending them to please watch Re:Zero, the insight they will give about the story and to Subaru will be amazing, please watch it, you are not gonna regret it!!
49:42 The reason why I don't rate it as highly is because it is so character-focused. If you think about why you love the show, it's because you already agree with a lot of the things that are being said. The show is pandering to your emotions, it doesn't challenge you intellectually, like, let's say, Attack on Titan does. The closest thing we've had in Vinland to what I'm looking for in a show was priests "traditional love is discrimination, true love is death itself", but it was an exception rather than the rule. Unless it's something truly unique, personal journeys is not the thing I look for in the shows, to be honest I find it cheap and generic. I'm watching shows so that I can mentally explore challenging situations I wouldn't encounter in real life, and Vinland Saga just doesn't present many of them.
Its not 10/10, because I already knew the answer, like keep pushing forward, don't give up, climb . It was a good episode but not 10/10, it was predictible
@@mmor7380 you say predictable then name the hero episode of aot where it was obvious armin was gonna sacrifice himself so they can win, something you can see coming doesn't make it bad same as this episode of Thorfinn finally confronting himself and learning what he must do from what Thors and Askeladd told him before, it's catharsis of all that development

Solid 7.5/10 show
@@randomguy9471 solid 10/10
*Farmland Saga
Einar played such an important role in Thorfinn's redemption...
Einar unlocked the empathy in Thorfinn, made Thorfinn think deeper about all the people he killed,
"Were the people I murdered kind and good like Einar"
I read that people kept sending the author images of goats and the author was so confused as to what it meant lol
this got me laughing so hard
As a person who loves watch fighting genres. I do love this 2nd season so much. This is no different than fighting for your life and soul
The great thing about Makoto Yukimura's work is that
I think it's not just the drawing ability, but the ability to
persuasively depict how people's minds move and how they change.
No matter how many times I watch this episode, I still cry(;_;)
I also like your honest reactions^^
This is one of the greatest modern masterpiece of anime and manga that have been done greatly with great human persona and humanity displayed in every inch of the show
When I was reading the manga I was wondering how they could possibly do the panels justice in the anime. THEY DID SO GOOD. I cried while watching it 😭
This is the point where the anime separates the children from the adults.
Thank you and much love to you 2❤❤❤❤
Been waiting for this episode. This episode made me tear up so bad🥲
me too
I weep like a goddamn baby first time I watch it. I wish I could experience that feeling again.
10/10 masterpiece of an episode
Vinland Saga is peak fiction!
They need that fairy tail shonen juice in their veins 🤣🤣
This is peak character development and growth.
Masterpiece of a fucking episode 🔥🔥 this season has been unreal
Vinland saga hits hard when you're dealing with an addiction
Been waiting for y’all to react to this one…A masterpiece episode
For me, this is so far the best chapter in the series
Chapter 191?
@@Robert_H. Should've said anime episode. Chapter 191 is a strong contender for best chapter of the manga for me
Someone I work with dropped it because he said this season was slow and boring.
Let's just admit it once and for all, every episode is the best and better than the last one.🤣
This episode is definitely top tier in a series that is literally top tier overall too.
I miss Askeladd so much :(
38:03 the anime is basically beat for beat as the manga, that being said I still think the manga has some very small moments that didn't make the anime adaptation that add to almost every aspect of the narrative.
Dreams are much more than “dreams” in the two original Vinland sagas… and those same rules apply here.
Thors show a path, where no one is the enemy and askeladd show another path ,where everyone is the enemy,
I'd like to believe that Askeladd was on that pillar because he was never really a plain warrior. He might have made it out if he tried, but he decided to jump down into the pit to let Thorfin climb.
Honestly they would love the story of rurouni kenshin (anime) and the movie samurai x with it. It’s a bit older tho but similar type of message in the story and I loved it
Thorfinn hated Askeladd for more time than he was ever afforded being raised by his own father Thors
Shonen manga like chainsaw man and attack on titan really change a lot of casuals brain.
@@denglong7180 Attack On Titan is anything but just action. That's possibly the worst example to use.
Strong feelings towards Askeladd(people, most women who cry every time they see Askeladd)=daddy issues , I mean the guy is in ‘’hell’’
Someone tell me from partron.. Which new tv shows winning in Poll in their patron?
The Story of the Great Warrior Thorfinn💛
Masterpiece...Perfect episode...And perfect react s2
Ranking of Kings may be a fun watch :)
Crying my fucking eyes out holy shit this entire episode . What a depiction . This is why Anime is great.
Einar's wrath is shown only when it is justified.
his punches are controlled
I don't kill people.
To me the dream was the actual afterlife and it was Askeladds spirit talking to Thorfinn and Thor’s spirit too at least that’s the way I see it.
Masterpiece episode......Main Character development to the max.....chills..... gr8 reaction
I'm seeing a pattern in the things you love watching: transformation, redemption, healing and characters becoming better people. You should read the Gospels.
Pater is Latin for father. Pater the good father who Thorfinn needs, and symbolising God the Father.
finally, this episode is peeeerrrrfect
I loved this ep, this season is peak!
ah yes, smooth sailing from now on
That's what i've been waiting for!!!

Demon Slayer soon?
Ngl Demon Slayer is kinda mid compared to other shows they are watching, but I won't deny that I would love to see them react to it.
Demon Slayer doesn't do anything spectacular but it does the basics well. A show doesn't have to be spectacular to deserve a reaction.
I would like it if they reacted

The reason why I don't rate it as highly is because it is so character-focused.
Attack on titan shits the bed in the final arc tbh, eren is literally an idiot
Its not 10/10, because I already knew the answer, like keep pushing forward, don't give up, climb . It was a good episode but not 10/10, it was predictible
10/10 means perfect episode. This was a perfect episode
What's a 10 then
@@Gerolinger no it wasn't, very predictible
@@RaffDGoat traitor episode of aot, lagertha funeral in vikings, hero episode of aot
