OMG love it! True it captures the low bass notes of a clarinet, but the upper register sounds more like sax & sounds quite versatile. It also helps if you can play it like Marcus :-)
Don't agree: Compare this to the sound of an old one, e.g. my Conn from the early 1940s, and you see that the common Selmer problem - extremely thin sound - applies also for their bass clarinet.
improv actually isn't too hard. it's mostly just about key signatures and taking motifs and using them wisely. it's really just another technique, and like any other, can be augmented through practice
nah, u dont have 4 octaves in sax, you dont, you really dont have those low beautiful tones, and you can go high notes as well, it is like having a tuba + sax in the same instrument... and, nah, actually, sax was made by a bass clarinet player (adolf sax), so, sax came from bass clarinet mostly, and nah, nah.
Heyy am a bass clarinet player that's just a normal sound for a bass clarinet in the upper register it's not our sound it's the sound from the instrument playing high notes so stop saying that you hate his sound
The first time I blew a bass clarinet, it belonged to an orchestral player. Before I blew a note, he said "Remember that this is a clarinet, not a saxophone. Don't play it as if it is a saxophone." Someone should tell Marcus that. It's not a tenor saxophone. This is a pleasant, but almost worthless video.
That would be like someone giving you a cello and say "remember that this is a violin, and not a hurdy-gurdy". The bass clarinet is neither, an instrument in its own right. If you want to sound like a clarinet, that's good and probably preferable in a symphony orchestra (to match the sound of the Bb/A clarinets), but if you don't play in a symphony orchestra, like Marcus Miller, you can make it sound like a saxophone if you like that, also fine. Depends on what you like.
"Remember that this is a clarinet, not a saxophone. Don't play it as if it is a saxophone." What an odd thing to have allegedly been said. Who does that? Too bad you've not posted, you could show us how a bass clarinet should truly be played.
Thank You for your beautiful playing. Yes Selmer make great horns. God bletyou Marcus. By. Uk

They ought to. It costs the same as a deposit on a house.
it isn't the instrument, it's the player.

I'm pretty sure if we wanted to be a sax player he would go buy one, if he doesn't have on already.
Sounds like a saxophone...
No it doesn't 😮😅
Guess what, Buffet.
thats a 9500 dollar instrument
Some flutes cost 4X.
This wouldn't by a decent bow for a cello or bass.
(You might get a violin bow that's ok).

look at your bass clarinet, now at mine, now back at yours. sadly, yours is not a selmer privilege.
just get a saxophone
Please respect us bass clarinet players
In my opinion, I don´t like his sound. It´s sounds like a saxophone! And it isn´t a saxophone, is a bass clarinet.

You don't like it so what are we supposed to do? lol You even don't know (didn't 8 years ago) how bass clarinet sounds...
