    Popocatipetle is a scary volcano, hopefully small to moderate sized eruptions stay the norm for Mexico city's sake. Great rundown on current global activity , thanks

    I have recently read some VolcanoCafe articles regarding Popocatepetl. It appears to have increased in eruption rate in the last 30,000 years, as implied via the increasingly small and frequent plinian eruptions during the start of that time period.
    As I have said, Submarine volcanoes always interest me.
    Mount Bulusan is quite interesting. It is within a large caldera.

    Sir, what is the difference between an earth quake Vs a harmonic tremor ? Fascinating channel - keep up the great work Sir.

    • @AlkautsarPA
      @AlkautsarPA ปีที่แล้ว +9

      A harmonic tremor is basically an earthquake too (earthquake = anything that shakes the ground). A harmonic tremor is a series of rapid sequencing of earthquakes in the same frequencies (about several quakes per second), primarily volcanic in origin. In volcanoes, harmonic tremors indicate a fast movement of fluids that breaks the rocks along its way, mostly it is about magma that ascended rapidly. Harmonic tremors, if it is confirmed to be magmatic, mean an eruption is likely to happen, and it can keep happening even after the eruption happened.

    • @Paddy007
      @Paddy007 ปีที่แล้ว

      Harmonic tremors are when Magma is moving. An Earthquake happens usually when the pressure of two continental plates release. Thats the short explanation ;)

    I had planned a trip to Oaxaca, Puebla, and Mexico City, for my [40th!] birthday. My flights were supposed to be on May 20th (2023). My flight to Mexico City was cancelled. Should I ever try planning a trip to Mexico City-Puebla again? What should I do to protect myself from the volcano and from inhaling volcanic ash, if I travel to Mexico City/Puebla and then the mount Popocatepetl erupts some more and/or is emitting volcanic ash? Like for example, which kind of masks should I pack? Would my cotton reusable masks and sunhat be good enough? My cotton masks don't seem to seal good around my nose.

    • @ffffff52
      @ffffff52 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Im a local! (source of the ash comparison photo lol) and I can tell you there is minimal ash around, I really doubt activity its going to spike again and if the weather patterns persist we will be getting minimal ash if there is any low-mid intensity emissions. We mostly moved on to our "normal" life... if you consider living with an active volcano as neighbour and in a seismic area at permanent risk of danger a "normal" setting.
      Regular smog in México City right now represent a bigger danger to your health than ash, and in Puebla we don't wear anything since rain washed away most of the ash days ago.

    I don't believe you have done a video on the Mt. St. Helena volcano that straddles the borders of Sonoma and Napa Counties in Northern California. This volcano is part of the Clear Lake volcanic field to the north that you have covered before. I would like to know if Mt. St. Helena is regarded as extinct since I don't believe it has produced an eruption in about 2 million years. But this volcano created what is called California's Petrified Forest since large pyroclastic flows buried a forest on the volcano slopes to produce large fossilized logs. I think this is worth covering by Geology Hub. The mountain was named Mt. St. Helena by Russian soldiers and fur traders who built nearby Fort Ross in Sonoma County during the early 19th century. To earlier Spanish colonizers the volcano was part of the Mayacamas mountain range.

    I like your videos and I am following you for a while, but I have a question: Should we worry about all these erupting volcanoes around the planet ?? With all the gases they shoot making a lot of pollution ?? I wonder if they use these pollutions to make us believe their lies about climate change ??? Besides this raises one more potent question: are we standing on the verge of climate change because of our fossil gas c consumption(and other human-made related pollutions) or are we insignificant in all this shit they throw dawn our brains using fossil-fueled pollution??????????? Is it mother nature's ultra-slow cycle going on and we have nothing to do with it ?? I believe volcanoes are cyclical and do have a word to say about ice ages. I also believe ice ages are the equivalent of earth-like winter cycles, much like our seasons but on the scale of planetary 10000y time for each season instead for us a 3 months periods, for earth seasons lasts more than 10000y each.

      @omegastar19 ปีที่แล้ว

      Climate scientists take emissions from volcanic eruptions into account in their research. Emissions from volcanic eruption have a small but neglible effect on the climate. A major eruption will occasionally lead to a temporary disruption of the climate, but in most cases this disruption only lasts for a few years.
      Human-caused emissions on the other hand are continuous and continuously growing in size. The effects of these emissions is already becoming visible - which is extremely concerning because there is a time-delay between these emissions entering our atmosphere, and the climate actually changing because of it. The current issues with the climate (rapidly disappearing gleysers, shrinking polar ice, droughts and mega-droughts all over the place) are the result of our emissions from 30-40 years ago. So its going to become a lot worse in the next decades and humanity needs to get its shit together to act. We shouldve acted decades ago.
