Fun fact: The director actually wanted this whole movie done in live action. The problem was that they didn't want to make the cat seem to uncanny when it comes to CG or giving it a lip sync effect. So they opted to go with the stop motion route.

In the old writing of English, one loop in the O letter meant you were telling the truth, and two loops meant it was a lie. There was one loop in the word "welcome" and two in the word "home". I was traumatized by this movie when I was little, I thought for like a year that my mum wasn't my mum😂 I was convinced she would turn into a weird spider-like woman any second.
This movie came out when I was 2, and I didn't watch it until I was probably about 6 or 7,and I loved the entire thing up until the Other Mother turned into the spider thing. I wouldn't watch it for years and eventually forgot about it. I rewatched it a few years ago and now it's one of my favorite movies that I'll never get tired of
I am obsessed but when I say I got severe anxiety from that scene when Other Spider Mother jumps down the web and almost catches Coraline I mean SEVERE ANXIETY

I'm the only guy I know who does, but I love it. :) As for the cat bringing Wybie "dead things", I think actual cat owners can correct me, but a lot of cats have the habit of bringing dead or dying things to their owners with the idea that they expect the owner to "finish them off". I think it's what a cat would normally do with their kittens to teach them to hunt. Toadstool rings normally grow in nature, but the old myth is that you were supposed to avoid them because they represented pathways into the world of fae.

I listen to the commentary last month and I never thought of it but Dakota fanning filmed this over 3 years. So she had to match her 10-year-old voice to her 7-year-old voice. That's a lot to ask of anybody let alone a young kid plus ask them to play this complicated character

You have to watch this a second time, there are so many interesting plots and signs of what´s going to happen that you cannot see the first time. For example how the lightning in the beginning is the shape of the other mothers creepy hand. I’m grown and I still flip seeing the Other Mother. This one girl did makeup of the Other Mother, button eyes, hair and everything, and I literally screamed.
I was really scared at the scene when her parents wanted to sew her eyes out into buttons. This movie really scared me as a child.

As for the cat bringing Wybie "dead things", I think actual cat owners can correct me, but a lot of cats have the habit of bringing dead or dying things to their owners with the idea that they expect the owner to "finish them off". I think it's what a cat would normally do with their kittens to teach them to hunt.
Toadstool rings normally grow in nature, but the old myth is that you were supposed to avoid them because they represented pathways into the world of fae.

It is my favorite movie. Such a piece of art! Flowers made of dog toys, cherry trees made of popcorn! I mean, how creative!
I don’t think I would’ve hated it as a child but I watched Coraline as a teenager so I immediately loved it, it was scary and amazing and just all around a wonderful scary kids movie! Lol
I love this film. There's a lot to be said for stop motion. It's come a long way since those Sinbad films from the 1970s (and I loved those, too).

I listen to the commentary last month and I never thought of it but Dakota fanning filmed this over 3 years. So she had to match her 10-year-old voice to her 7-year-old voice. That's a lot to ask of anybody let alone a young kid plus ask them to play this complicated character
Fun fact: According to a few theories the other mother is actually a fairy's child, in other words, she is a " changeling" , not a demon.

I loved watching Coraline.
You have to watch this a second time, there are so many interesting plots and signs of what´s going to happen that you cannot see the first time. For example how the lightning in the beginning is the shape of the other mothers creepy hand. This movie is so well planned out it´s a real masterpiece and I´m so happy you reacted to it:) sending love to our precious Sean
The dad is good he tried to warn coraline with the piano song.
And also Coraline might not have escaped because the other mother can create worlds and the cat can only disappear when he is in the other mothers world.
