For me this is far and away the best ever performance of this jazz standard ... Andrea's sweet but sad vocals, Joan's lyrical sax, and the sextet and orchestra backing them up with a complex but perfect arrangement. That closing chord sequence and the hold of the final note for a last gentle solo is just sublime. Absolutely top class as always - thank you Joan for giving joy to so many across the world through music.

I just noticed that her singing reminds me of Billie Holiday. I think it’s the time. No big huge voice or anything, but something that just makes it exactly right. I love it. It would be interesting to know if she listened to Billie Holiday a lot.

I'm a 63 year old beginner to intermediate student of jazz piano, with not zero talent, but nothing like the kids he uncovers. By the way, do you know how to pronounce his first name? Is it like the Juan that one hears in Mexican Spanish? In English I'd write that as Hwan.

All the kids in the SAJB know the history of jazz and listen to what went before, it's all part of their culture.
