That I remember from another video of urs. Open up the china cabinet to let the heat out once a month. Since I’ve learned that I have done what u said. Don’t know if I have anything of any value but I do as I’m told ♥️😊👍

Nice video. Online the prices are much, much, much lower than the snapshot given on this video. Maybe the prices have declined?

My values are based on where I have seen similar pieces actually sell. Many people use the wrong sources when looking online, the sources have mis-identified their piece, etc. For example, online auctions like eBay should not be used as price guides. You may read my article with examples at www.drloriv.com/Blog/ID/4099/Dont-Use-eBay-as-a-Price-Guide or watch another video where I use a real story of a glass bottle at www.drloriv.com/Videos/ID/4772/Bottle-Resells-for-60000. Thanks for your comments.

You are right. Price is set between a willing buyer and a willing seller. All sellers have different time frames to sell and that affects price. Appraised value price is by an expert gathered from sold comps for insurance or possible sale. eBay comps are good if a seller chooses that platform for selling. I have seen glass values vary widely from liquidators, auction houses, estate firms, & established firms as well as platforms such as eBay, esty, or even thrift shops. (Where the seller value was zilch). I'm learning a lot watching your videos. Question, when you use a sold comp to establish value do you consider other circumstances such as seller motivation, if known, or scarcity or abundance of other similar pieces for sale when that comp was sold? It seems that market conditions of other available pieces could greatly change an appraised value. Thank you very much for the informative videos, they are work to do and it's appreciated.

Sunny, glad you appreciate the videos. Thanks for the feedback. My appraisal values are based on what a piece actually sells for. That appraised value considers all market conditions. I can offer my article about the differences between asking prices, purchase offers, and appraised values at www.drloriv.com/Blog/ID/4190/Three-Antiques-Values-you-Must-Know. It might help make my reply here clearer.

Dr Lori, are rainbow refractions inside the cuts another sign of American brilliant?

    • @DrLoriV

Put your finger in the cuts. Does it feel sharp? Learn that to identify cut glass by quality. I'm not a scientist, but doesn't water also create rainbows with the refraction of light? What if you can't get the light to refract with any piece of glass just because the lighting isn't right in the thrift shop? Then what do you do? Stick with and learn the finger in the cuts trick :)

@@DrLoriV I’ve noticed, in examining the pieces I have in the same lighting, the pieces with the sharper edges tend to be more prismatic if that makes sense. Perhaps that’s what is meant by clarity and brilliance?

@@suzannedawson4120 Ok, but you might not always have or catch the light and again many things can refract light! Your fingers are always with you :)
