Recently got to see the Avatar soundtrack live in concert. It was incredible, I wish Zuckerman stayed on to score this but I understand why he left, glad to see they are taking inspiration from his themes. He goes hard for what was a Nickelodeon children’s show
Bro, literally insane how good this score is; for a children's show! He put everything into this, even if it wasn't fully understood by the audience at the time. Follows along with the show in general lol
The old guy firebending in armor at the start that Agustin thought was Iroh is in fact Sozin, Zuko's great grandfather. He is fighting, I am not joking, Monk Gyatso in the initial strike of the 100 year's war. It's an epicly awesome idea and not one that I knew I needed! He's also one of the few reactors so far I've seen who has identified Hei Bai!
The best thing about this trailer is that it showed even the minor characters like June, Jet, Hei Bai, even Teo the paraplegic boy in the northern air nomad temple... seems like the show makers are going to be more faithful to the source than we think, to even include these seemingly inconsequential characters.
To be fair though, those characters had some participation in the future episodes so it's good that they were shown and it's like they're saying "No, we're not gonna leave them out in this season unlike the other one 🤭"
Jet and especially June are NOT minor. Jet´s betrayal of feelings of Katara IMO adds to her being so mad on Zuko when he wanted to join them. Without June the gang wouldn´t have discovered Iroh and ¨old people camp¨, giving Zuko the motivation to face Azula and become the new firelord. On another note i hope they show cabbage guy in a second trailer.
Oh please react to the original series! I find that rewatching this series again when I am older, I get to understand more of the lessons and virtue of bending and relate it to my daily life. It would definitely be a nice walk down memory lane with you guys!
I’m so glad it looks like they’re gonna stay loyal to the series and unlike the movie, Aang and all the other characters have their sense of humor. I hope it is as amazing as the trailer and hopefully we’ll see Toph at some point or even in the next season😁🙌🏻❤
I'm with Agustin, it looks stylized, but that isn't a bad thing. I don't need absolute realism, I just need it to look good! Honestly I'm generally of the opinion that not everything needs to be adapted, and I would count AtLA among that. But I'd be lying if I said this didn't get me hyped! It's giving me enough of the vibes of the original, but with a bit more serious tone that I think fits live action well.
Vibing with Agustin here! Definitely identifying a lot with Earth and Fire here, to the point friends always point out "Yep, you're the lavabender here without a doubt" XD
Yeah I can see Hector being water or air, Adam would probably be earth bending and I'd say Agustin would be fire bending but like, dragon dance style of fire bending. Not the over lord colonizing kind. (update: I made these predictions before I heard the guys full answers and I was wrong hahaha) Also, I'll suffer through that hot garbage of a movie just to see Adam's reaction haha
Homies!! Love your work as always. I have never seen anything related to TLAB. Please recommend a watching plan, is all I need to watch the animated series?
I've been following the project since it was announced in 2018 and I have so much faith in it! It really seems like the team behind it handled it with such great care and intent. I also genuinely think Dallas Liu is going to be that triple threat you mentioned! I really loved his performance as an angsty funny teen in Pen15, he sounds just like Zuko, and he was an international competing marital artist from ages 5-13!
Love the reaction guys! I been a fan of the original show since it first aired back on TV in 05’. I’m keeping up with this new live action remake of the show and from what I heard they are changing the tone a bit and adding new material which is cool as is not a total copy from original. Can’t wait to see you guys react to this and also I’m on board with you guys reacting to the original animated series. It will be dope to see you guys interact and give prospective on each episode, we got a glimpse of Hector when he did Braving The Elements podcast! Can’t wait for you guys to react to this.
I get what you guys mean by the bending feeling smaller. Still withholding judgment until we see the actual show. But with the medium of animation, it suits the huge, exaggerated movements of benders and the elements they bend so well so it feels so impactful. Hope it's done justice!
thank you for pointing how some things feel ... smaller? there's a lot of this that feels weirdly zoomed in to me, like some of the camera shots dearly need to go wider; especially the stuff on appa, you need that feeling of space in the flying shots! but for the most part the camera seems settled in a mid-distance, and, well, i think it's because they're over relying on reproducing the cartoon, if that makes sense? but some things will look good in animation and less so in live action, naturally, so maybe they need to find that balance still. and hopefully they'll take any critiques of this season and use them to improve the next ones
I've been watching the cartoon for decades, I'm a hardcore fan. I watched this trailer, and I gotta say I went from skeptical to hyped in about 0.2 seconds lol. We'll see if they stay faithful with the overall story, but so far I'm liking what I'm seeing
The old man firebending at the beginning wasn't General Iroh - that's Firelord Sozin. The one who started the 100 years war by attacking the air nomads and wiping them out. He is the father of Firelord Azulon so that make him the grandfather of Iroh and Ozai. It is to believed he was the most skilled and powerful firebender at the time. (Well second only to the Avatar at the time - Avatar Roku.) Both shared a history together. It's quite tragic how it turned out in the end
I did see that Netflix stated that the live action show will not be a 1:1 comparison to the show that they won't have the goofy filler episodes but they're trying their best to honor the show. Theyre also expanding on what happened to the air nomads and that azula will have a presence in the forest season so her coming in later feels more organic.
ATLA is such a beloved IP and the movie really left a bad taste. So I'm just hoping that this does the characters and story justice! Can't wait to watch this along with you guys :)
I personally cannot wait for this series! I love the animated series, so this is going to be day one for me! Seems like some of my tastes align with Agustin: love LOTR, Avatar, and also identify with the Earthbenders, with Toph being my favorite character in the series. Mae Whitman was superb as Katara and so was Dante Basco as Zuko in the animated series, but really every one was incredible. I was surprised at the awesome voice gets they pulled off, even for secondary characters: Mark Hamill, Mako, Jason Isaacs, George Takei etc. 😯
Amazing trailer but I feel some of your same hesitations Hector. In regards to TH-cam compression and such that Adam brings up, the thing im worried about is that lately Netflix compression has been pretty awful. I thought One Piece looked great so hopefully they give the same treatment to this, but so many other new Netflix releases don’t look great in my opinion. I have an irl friend who agrees with me, I’m curious if anyone here has had compression issues with Netflix as well lately?
I have hope that they found a cast that can do all those 3 things. Going by what they accomplished with One Piece, Im extremely hopeful. All the crew of the Straw Hats were pretty spot on in capturing the essence of the anime and manga but bringing a new life to it.
This looks so insanely good that I really wonder why the original creators bailed. Since it looks like they’re nailing the plot and characters the only thing I can think is that they had thematic difference. I hope they don’t lean hard into the “chosen one” stuff or western dominance nonsense that tends to end up in Hollywood movies instead of the very eastern kindness-based themes of the series. We’ll see, I suppose, but this does look fantastic.
Some words on the street have been that the creators wanted to change some stuff and add some new things but that Netflix wanted to hew more closer to the cartoon. I have also heard the split was over wanting to age up Katara and Zuko so that they could be a couple or something. It’s hard to tell at this point what is really true or not.
I cannot wait for this. I love Avatar: The Last Airbender. The music is on point. I love it. The trailer brings tears to my eyes. I hope this show sticks the landing. Adam so glad you watched the animated series because it’s fantastic. P.s Adam do not watch The Last Airbender movie. We don’t talk about that film lol.
The old man with thr long beard at the air temple was Fire Lord Sozin. They confirmed they will he showing the battle between thr Fire Nation and the Air Nomads
My cautious optimism remains intact. Visually, it looks pretty good, the actors and actresses appear to be doing a good job as well, and the tone also feels right. But I'll need to see more before I fully decide. I really want this to succeed, so fingers crossed.
Idk what nation I would be. I feel like I could fit into water or earth, but also if we take firebending as it is meant to be... fire is life. So I would love to be fire nation, too. Idk. So hard to choose. 😅 I'm not a nomad, tho. I do know that.
PLEASE everyone FOR THE LOVE OF TOPH give this first season a chance so we get a second season. Remember that Season 2 of the cartoon was way better than season 1, and give the live action room to grow as well. And GIVE THE CAST time to build the chemistry as well!
Am I expecting the show to be on the same level as the original animated series? No. Am I holding that against this adaptation? Also no. The original series holds a special place in my heart that I don't think could be matched, and I'm not looking for this to match that - incredibly high - standard. I want this adaptation to have it's own identity, maybe try to bring something new or different to the table, and stand on its own merits.
I loved the trailer, as most have. But we all know a trailer can be better than the actual movie or show. But the most harrowing bit of behind the scenes that has constantly bothered me has been that Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino left the project over creative differences. It defo was that, they said it in that announcement they made back then. They wanted to do things one way and Netflix wanted to go another direction. And for me, when adapting animation to live-action, you must have the creators (if possible) as consultants on set or at least being part of the writer's room. The reason that the One Piece adaptation worked so well was that they had the creator there looking over scripts and saying that oh that character wouldn't say that and the change would be made. The characters on that show feel the same as the anime because the creator of the characters helped adapt them. The tone of that show was just perfectly done. And I have been constantly worried about this ATLA adaptation. I've loved the casting, the music, the costumes, and other things, but the disconnect from the creators has been just overshadowing every bit of good news. That, and they one bit of behind the scenes where Netflix said that they liked the tone of the animated show in the latter two seasons and they wanted that tone throughout. For me, that just seems like sipping over the light-heartedness and getting to the more mature tone without having earned it. But, having seen this trailer, there does seem to be some lighter-toned moments, so we'll see. So I continue to be cautious.
I never like direct adaptations because it doesn’t work. If they can’t get close to the heart and the field to the original, that would be great because as far as I’m concerned, the animated show is beautiful and should exist as it is live action adaptation I hope they do it well can exist as its own
In terms of some o the visuals/CGI: I think that from fans, it'll probably get the same reaction as the Luke Skywalker scene/reveal from The Mandalorian. I feel like everyone thought that the deep fake was a little rough but they didn't care because everything else was great and really memorable. Sure they'll probably be some scenes where the CGI/visuals don't work or could have been polished more but we won't care because everything else will make up for it. Also.....June. Yeah.
Hard disagree that some of the bending looks like they pulled back from what the scene called for and hard disagree that any of the sets look too low quality. Doesn’t mean we won’t see that in the show but this trailer in my opinion has neither of those.
The original creators left because of creative differences, they said it in a press release or interview. Pretty much said that whatever Netflix makes, wether it's good or bad, isn't ATLA or anything they imagined. They wanted to bring on Indigenous consultants for the Water Tribe and Netflix said no, so... yeah, we'll see how this is lol.
More recently, it's been said they wanted to do that and make dramatic changes to.the characters and adjust their world building to be more Korra-esque. We'll see
hector watched one piece LA and didnt react on the channel? That would have been a huge boost for the channel if you reacted when it came out. Though tbf even reactors need shows that they can just enjoy without the camera on. cough cough watch 'tiger and bunny' cough.
If you are looking for this show to top the animated version, (one of the best TV shows of all time) then you are already rooting for it to fail, and are going to nitpick this show to death in your reactions. If this show is HALF as good as the original it's going to be a damn good show.
I'm 50 now and saw Avatar when I was 48. There were many childish aspects to the show I didn't like. From dialogue to Aang himself. The fire nation wasn't dark enough. Don't get me wrong I still really liked the show but I think there is a chance that this show can be even better. I've often wondered. If I was 20 or 30 years younger. Would I have lived the animated show even more? My thought is yes. Return of the Jedi is a good example. I was still young enough to love the Ewoks at the time and they didn't bother me. But now I look at that movie and think how much more badass it would have been had they used Wookies instead.
I'm with Hector, some of the bending still looked pretty bad. I'm just not convinced a live action Avatar can ever be good, but I'm definitely going to give it a chance.
I’d recommend you keep noticing that hyperactive need to pick things apart and critique and maybe recognize that’s a bad thing… and work on it. That’s not a great way to be.
@@hectorminator I don’t think you usually are I’m just referring to the instinct you referenced in the video. You’re usually quite fair but all these adaptations these days we all seem to share a kernel of this instinct to compare and contrast and I think that does a disservice to the creators and ourselves. Perhaps I just yearn for the childlike lens of wonder media use to feel like. Things feel like they come with much more baggage these days. Anyways it’s all love no disrespect intended per se
I'm hyped as fck. This look like it has the pathos that the animated series sometime need (especialy season 1). (Btw complaining about the fcking prononciation of Aang is just....another level of fanboyism....duh)
Honestly, I didn't get any of the issues Hector referenced. I guess I don't go into a CGI heavy show like this expecting it to be movie-quality for every episode and every moment...that's impractical. As Adam said, the show is capturing the heart of the show essentially, which is the point. If we're nitpicking it on that level already then the show just won't be successful.

More recently, it's been said they wanted to do that and make dramatic changes to.the characters and adjust their world building to be more Korra-esque. We'll see
bro jet was the only sane guy among them
hector watched one piece LA and didnt react on the channel? That would have been a huge boost for the channel if you reacted when it came out. Though tbf even reactors need shows that they can just enjoy without the camera on.
cough cough watch 'tiger and bunny' cough.
After this trailer I'm thinking the og animated series will remain the best version, but I'm open to the show surprising me!
Easy to to say don't you think? The first episode isn't even out and already say this.. hm let's watch next month
You should watch dallas liu do martial arts he plays zuko
I wanna see you guys react to the venture brother’s
After watching One Piece live action and Yu Yu Hakusho live action and absolutely loving them. I have complete faith in Netflix to make this good.
exactly
Loooks good - I am excited
Earth nation gang!
If you are looking for this show to top the animated version, (one of the best TV shows of all time) then you are already rooting for it to fail, and are going to nitpick this show to death in your reactions. If this show is HALF as good as the original it's going to be a damn good show.
Avatar State Yip Yip
Parts of the trailer feels very Disney teeny bopper, but then again the earlier shows are child like before it matures.
What a twist!
BOLIN LOVE YES
There is no movie in Ba Sing Se.
Sooo no one identifies as a Blood Bender??? You wouldn’t want to manipulate someone’s else’s body against their will? 😂
Im scared. Lol. Heres hoping.
I'm with Hector, some of the bending still looked pretty bad. I'm just not convinced a live action Avatar can ever be good, but I'm definitely going to give it a chance.
I say any haters have to watch Shamalan's TLA before they say ANYTHING! hahaha
Well, the trailer looks way better than that horrible movie, so I have hope for this show. lol
Yes!!!! Do a reaction to the movie.😂😂😂😂😂
I’d recommend you keep noticing that hyperactive need to pick things apart and critique and maybe recognize that’s a bad thing… and work on it. That’s not a great way to be.
I think you gotta watch more of our stuff because we don’t do that at all. ❤
I've been saying on all these reactions. They said his name right so it's automatically better than the movie lol
Let's goooo YIP YIP
I still am super hesitant to watch this since the original creators walked away from this netflix project in the middle of it.
No cabbages were seen in this trailer.. yet. Maybe the second one; if any 😅
alguno de uds es latino ?
