We saved a buck entangled with a dead buck's antlers

- A friend and I were skiing and came across a weakened buck, entangled with a dead buck's antlers. So we jumped to its rescue. Video was taken in Beaudry Provincial Park in Manitoba on December 21, 2019. It was picked up by local media. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manito...

And he was next .
Or even worse a likely candidate for some hungry predator that came along.

It was most likely a predator it is eaten from the rear, animals like to start eating from open cavities, that buck was for sure next.
Side note: that buck propped that dead buck on top of him as a Shield, smart fella.

Two things are pretty remarkable:
1. the deer which was not really moving after standing up - whether he was too weak or because he recognized about your help...
...and also on the first place: YOU guys, who were more interested in helping the poor thing than getting the best shot.

P.S. It was good luck that the exhausted buck fell under the other one so that you could approach the last few feet. It gave him time to realize you weren't hurting him, so he didn't instinctively keep struggling to escape.

Vielleicht hat der andere Bock verzweifelt versucht loszukommen, hat es weggeschleppt und gezerrt und die Eingeweide hängen zerrupft an irgendwelchen Baumstämmen oder Ästen. Es muss extrem gewesen sein für beide Böcke.

I’m so happy you guys saved him, I saw two that were alive and stuck together in a river and were drowning one another trying to get free. But a man used an electric saw to free them. He sawed one of the horns off
I just saw that video, which is likely why I'm getting this one in my feed. That man had great precision, given how those buck were panicking. I love it when people go out of their way to help those in need and I love to see how resourceful they become in order to do it.

I just watched another video of the same situation except the dead buck was half gone. I wonder just how common bucks getting caught together is. I think really its awesome you were able to help this one. Did a great job!!

A lot more than most realize - and they generally never unlock once locked and both deer die most of the time, eventually.
Thanks for helping. I once was with my wife's family where some are hunters and they do eat the deer. They talked me into going hunting once and I went and was in a field alone waiting to see if one would come out to the field at dusk. But about 5-6 doe came out first and a while later a big buck came out that a bigger rack than my future brother in-laws had on their walls. Lol.
The buck came right to the last tree or brush but could see it clearly. I could not shoot it and began talking to him. The weird thing he sat there and listened to me rattle about how pretty it was here in the valley where his domain was. I finally said you need to go and had to say it a few times and raised my voice thinking he was not hearing me. He then jumped once or twice and up the hill he went at such a speed it amazed me. The doe then disappeared right after. Never went hunting again. I don't fault people who do hunt and keep deer population down because their ate less hunters and few predators for deer now.
