Thanks very much for that mate. I'm 64 and just found out my PSA is at 25, getting up at night to urinate, some back ache at night as well; should get my scan in a couple of weeks. Hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. I've been exercising and eating better for a little while anyway, just going for a walk myself now as it happens; will be sending out positive thoughts, all the best to you.

I was fortunate enough to have a friend who schooled me on the perils of prostrate cancer. My friends father died from it which caused my friend to be very aggressive about getting PSA's and seeing a urologist. I have recently had a prostrate biopsy after having several PSA's come back high. My biopsy came back positive for early stage prostate cancer. I believe you are doing a wonderful thing by coming forward and putting the word out about how important it is for men to be aware of prostrate issues.

My father was diagnosed with PC, I went to the GP to request screening, I was refused, to young they said. A few months later my older brother gets diagnosed with PC. Again the GP refused to screen me as I was 'to young'.
I get increasingly aggravated and revisit the GP, (a locum was covering). He acted straight away and appointments were made, and yes, I was diagnosed with PC as well. I have a younger brother and within weeks he was diagnosed as well. All 4 of us bloomed within a short period of time.
Sadly my older brother didn'tmake it. I'm nearly 57yo and had my surgery 6 years ago.
PC is a massive thing for men and kills as many men as breast and cervical cancer kills women. It needs a bigger profile and a better understanding of post treatment complications.
6 years and I still get anxiety every time I get my PSA taken and am wait for the results.
Good luck to this guy, and good luck to anyone going through this. And for those not on this path yet(and I hope you never are), if you have even the smallest concern about aches, pains, urine problems, erection issues, anything at all, get checked. The earlier you find it the more options you have.

Andrew im sorry to read your famies experience of prostate cancer. I dont understand how doctors dont want to give psa tests out to men who have potential pc. Looking back i had every symptom going and yet it took montbs for me to get an actual blood test, by that time it was well advanced. If i knew then what i now know i would have just paid for a psa blood test online, i will of course never know if it would have changed anything for the better, some say pc grows inside us for years witb no detectable symptoms. For me i was refered an osteopath who unknown to them was twisting me into all kinds of positions whilst my cancer was destroying my vertibrae no wonder i left each session in absolute agony.
I will now do my best to raise awareness of this disease while i can. Good luck to you Andrew. By the way my monthly psa result can back yesterday 0.01 it still doesnt get any easier waiting for that news each month.

9:43 Thank you. I hope your luck is holding. My back & leg pain echoed your experience. I'd been in the care of Urologists for 10 years (BPH) but it was my Primary Care Physician who ordered the PSA as part of a 65 years old workup. It was nearly 4000 (not a typo) with widespread bone & lymph metastases! It's been a wild ride but I'll be 71 in July!

It’s just unfathomable to me that a urologist had a patient starting at 55 years of age and NEVER ordered a PSA test. It is the single most important medical test a man can have. It’s simple, it’s cheap and it’s painless. Anyone reading this who is waiting for your doctor to tell you that you need a PSA test - stop waiting! Whether or not you have symptoms- if you’re over 45 you NEED a psa test.

2021 I had a PSA of 5.9. The doc scheduled an MRI and the results were two small suspicious spots on left and right sides. Prostrate was intact with no leakage. Doc wanted to jump right in and do a transrectal biopsy. Refused and spent many hours on TH-cam looking at procedures. To many possible complications with that way. Found a new urologist and he does a MRI Fusion Transperineal. In the hospital and out cold. They did another PSA test and it showed 5.13. Had the biopsy done this past June without any complications and long term side effects. They took 14 samples which turned a 50% cancer. Gleason was a 6 which is slow growing. They gave me 4 options. First was to monitor it as the score is low. Second, radiation. This can kill a lot of healthy cells and if not done correctly can fuse to the rectal wall. Catheter was involved afterwards. Third radioactive beads inserted in the prostrate. Not happening. Fourth was removing the prostrate all together. This carries a lot of well this might happen a d a few maybes. I do have a friend that had it removed and except for having a catheter in for several weeks, the only problem is he leaks a bit and has a “man pad”. If the surgeon is really good this would be the worst scenario. My Dr. uses a DaVinci Robotics machine. TH-cam has a full video of the entire operation. I have another PSA in January which will be followed by an MRI. Not sure how I will decide which road to take. Good luck to everyone out there going through this. I went through 4 Urologists before I found one that I was comfortable with. I am located on the South Shore of Massachusetts, just south of Boston

Went to the Urologist Surgeon today. September 28th 2022. They took my PSA blood test. It's been 6 weeks since The Prostatectomy surgery. Was concerned that a high number would still be there. Nope! The number was 0.04. The Doctor said. Shawn your cancer free as of today. My wife cried and I cheered. Thank God Almighty! My prayers were answered. Got to look at MRI. The tumor was really close to getting outside. Very aggressive tumor too. Catching the Prostate Cancer early was key! Men, Please get your PSA blood tested. It will save your life! It did mine. I went to a health fair and had a prostate check. The doc said he felt a hard ridge on my prostate and that I should get it checked. My PSA was 6.1. Went to a family physician who checked me again, said he thought it was just a wrinkle in my prostate and nothing to worry about. I don’t recall him saying anything about the elevated PSA. I thought he knew what he was talking about, so I went my way. Five years later I started having urinary problems and went to see a physician’s assistant. She did a digital exam and said she wanted to run a PSA test. Came back 26.1. Went to a urologist, had a biopsy which showed cancer in all 12 cores, Gleason 9, and I already had metastases to the bone in my pelvic area and lower spine. I probably would have stood a good chance of a cure if the family physician had sent me to a urologist five years earlier, but my cancer is incurable now.

There is a lot of people that I believe could of been prevented from becoming late stage PC sufferers. My only advice is don't harbour too much resentment it will do you know good put your energy into warning others and hopefully save someone else from going through what you are. Try to keep yourself positive there are some great drugs now that can help you to live a reasonablly healthy life compared to a few years ago and more being tested as we speak. Good luck my friend.

This makes me so angry, I had to pay for my on PSA out of pocket. My doctor, wait excuse me, PA said I didn't need it, I'm in relatively good health. It came back 10.1. Took it to my PA, order his own PSA, came back 10.4. In a nut shell I have 3 cores with cancer, two with Gleason score of 3+4, 30% , I guess 30% of the sample core was cancerous, one core 4+3 60% cancerous (yikes) grade 2, again not sure what that means, but at least it not a grade 5. For now, I'm focus on my options, once it has been dealt with, I will then turn my attention to how come I had to find out this way, especially being an African American, male over 50. Smh. God Speed my brother.

The terrible thing is 1 in 4 black men will get prostate cancer I guess its something to do with the genes, it's terrible that they would not give you a PSA test. Spread the word this cancer is very dangerous but if caught early it can be managed well tell people you know if they are in their early 50s to get a PSA test especially if the waterworks have changed or they are having sudden pain in the lower back. Well done for posting this. I have regularly checked for PSA and the levels went up. Fortunately for me after tests I found I didn't have cancer. I informed my younger brother and he followed up for himself, but not very assertively. Then he experienced a lot of pain and recently has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer, early stages so he has said. I try to tell my male peers to get sorted with PSA tests. But it's amazing how people so often rebuff the advice, thinking it's too personal an issue to discuss. Of course it's not s nice topic or issue, but if you want to stay well, or as well as possible, it's a discussion that you have to have and not leave it too late.

Thank you for your message to help others. I was also diagnosed with PC and elected to have my prostate removed. 4yrs later I needed radiotherapy and currently am on two medications to hopefully keep it at bay. As matter of interest any male aged 50yrs or over who requests their GP for a PSA test cannot legally be refused. Any problems speak to McMillan Cancer or Prostate Project, see their websites for contact details. Unfortunately NHS doesn’t routinely screen men for Prostate Cancer. It’s recommended though that if you’re male and 50 or over you ask your GP for a PSA blood test (simple small sample of blood from the arm) annually (make a note in your diary) or if you’re black from the age of 40yrs. The reason for the annual check apart from the obvious, is to record the trend. Some men with enlarged prostates will have a higher base level. An upward trend may indicate the need for further testing. Prostate cancer caught early has approx. 95% success rate so it’s imperative to catch it early if you can. Also if your mother had breast cancer, or your father or brothers have had Prostate Cancer there is the possibility that PC will be passed on to genetically so get tested asap.

From finding out to surgery. I have been back to work 3.5 months. The first 3 weeks back was extremely hard do to working in Printing Packaging. A lot of bending, stooping and laying on your side in the Printing Presses. Walking was a chore for 12 hrs. Men please take a least 10 weeks off to heal. Your surgery area's may be healed but the insides have a ways to go! Trust me! 10 weeks. I have a little bit of pee coming out. Lifting or under job stress. I wear a small under wear pad. As not to show wetness. But I am getting better every day. If you find out you have Prostate cancer. It's o.k. to be concerned. I was! Take that concern and put it into research on Prostate cancer. Then pick what route to go with. Good luck men! It's a tough road but you can survive Prostate cancer. God bless you all! Shawn.

I have just gone through a prostate concern, I don’t have cancer but it was a very stressful experience.
A few months ago I went to the doctor as my lower back was giving me grief. She sent me off to get a CT scan and asked when was the last time I had a blood test, years ago I’m 47. So I get a pathology referral for about 10 things they are testing, no idea what they were all acronyms.
Week later I go back to the doctor get my CT results, I have a worn facet joint in my lower spine. Solution physio, core exercises and loose some weight and I should be much better.
Then she said we have your blood test, one of the tests is out of range my PSA was 5. She said it should be about 1 for my age, she then sent me off to a urologist and another PSA test. See the urologist a few weeks later and my PSA is now 6. He said the way to get a better idea is to do an MRI scan. Week later I’m back doctor said they found two areas of concern, they rate them on a scale of 1-5 in terms of severity, 5 being very concerned. I was scored 3 & 4 for my two anomalies. I now started to get very stressed.
Next week I was sent to hospital for a ultrasound/mri overlay guided biopsy. A very surreal experience after got to the doctor with a sore back.
10 days later I got the results, all clear!
It was inflammation from a possible infection.
I was in a state of shock as I was expecting the worst as my dad and grandfather had prostate cancer.
I am telling everyone to get a PSA test, know your baseline! Mine will be different to the norm but now I will be tested every 6 months, there are normally no symptoms so it’s a silent killer.
Im one of the lucky ones, get tested but if you do get a high PSA it does not always mean the worst.
    Good luck!

The more people that understand the basic need for the blood test the better in my opinion.

I'm always thought it was just sciatica also since I sit all day for my job. I don't have any problems passing urine and I don't go any more times than normal, however, I've had some other symptoms for awhile now that have me kind of concerned. I have a slight burning sensation when ejaculating and I always just thought it was a side effect of medication, but the anxiety medicine I'm on (Bupropion) isn't supposed to cause any sexual side effects. A most commendable brave contribution on this subject. I have been subject to ongoing prostate "supervision"
since being referred to urology with a PSA reading of around 7 nearly a decade ago, with a sequence of
digital rectal examination (diagnosing an enlarged prostate) 12 pin biopsy, MRI scans and fluctuating PSA levels across the years since. If a PSA test is taken, then it can be a guide but a general awareness of possible
problems in the area is as useful as it is also reported that cancer can be present without a higher than
expected PSA level. We are all individuals with life-styles and our unique bodily conformation to consider.
I note this contributor mentions diet as he closes his contribution and this has to be a valuable reference.
In simple terms it can be said that,we are what we eat and the old wisdom "Let your medicine be your
food and your food be your medicine" has much to recommend it. Also, there are health supplements
that can prove useful, containing recommended sources of anti-oxidant/cancer agents. Prevention is
always better than cure and cancer can regress. Good luck to all dealing with this situation.

else available medical treatm, ents offer but offer "help" to the body in doing the same job.

Good advice about periodically having a PSA test done once you reach a certain age. It's a simple blood test and the report comes back very quickly. Also, a doctor who is giving you a general checkup should do a digital rectal exam (DRE) to see if he/she can detect any lumps in the prostate that might be cancer. A DRE is uncomfortable but only takes the doctor a few seconds to perform.
Even if your PSA is elevated, that does not automatically mean that you have prostate cancer. It suggests that you have a prostate problem of some kind that is allowing an abnormal amount of this antigen to get into your blood stream. It could, for example, just mean that you have an enlarged (but not cancerous) prostate. However, a higher than normal PSA level is an indication that additional tests for cancer should be done. This could be a prostate biopsy, for example, and I believe that MRI imaging is now able to identify prostate cancer. Ideally, you want to catch prostate cancer before it has spread beyond the prostate and there is a very high probability of cure.
When I was in my late 50s my PSA was in the 5-7 range (a bit above normal). I didn't immediately rush to have a biopsy done because my prostate was enlarged and I thought that might be the cause of the high PSA. But a year or two later my PSA almost doubled to around 10 within a period of about six months. So I had a biopsy done and it indicated that I had prostate cancer. I chose to have my prostate removed (radical prostatectomy) rather than undergo radiation treatment. It was a good choice because the results from the surgery suggested (with a 95% probability) that my cancer was confined to the prostate. It is 20 years later and my annual PSA test always comes back negative. I don't know what I will die of, but it will not be prostate cancer.

      @blvany ปีที่แล้ว

@@dappa311 That is currently the case, but I'm 20 years older now. I use Viagra in conjunction with a constriction ring around the base of the penis, which works to keep the blood in the penis after Viagra has worked to increase that blood flow. It is a satisfactory arrangement for achieving and maintaining an erection, but of course not as good as when I was younger.
I used to use Cialis instead of Viagra for a longer lasting effect, but switched back to Viagra after experiencing some side effects from Cialis. Other approaches to post-surgery erections have been unsatisfactory. The vacuum pump technique was a failure. Penile injections (and Muse as well) definitely produced erections but they did not feel natural and were in fact painful. An erection resulting from Viagra or a similar drug feels very natural.

Well it is what it is , it's just very depressing to know that this is the outcome for many men who have had their prostate removed ; and for you it has been 20 years.
Thats a long time to be dealing with such a thing , the normalcy of just being able to have an erection at will , now becomes an exercise in preparation for sex I guess.
But I guess you have to be logical about the situation when it's a situation of life and death.
      Having your prostate removed due to cancer and a side effect is not having your manhood work as god intended ;
it's two evils that I find very hard to come to grips with .
It's just sad to hear that men go through that, but at least you'r able to have sex, it could be worse and I know thats cliche but not being able to have an erection at all might be more traumatizing I would think.

Prostate cancer treatment is progressing at a rapid rate. New Radiotherapy techniques for accurately targeting the cancer, new chemo drugs and quite recently the PSMA/PET scan which very accurately locates tiny spots of cancer which can then be eradicated by highly focussed radiation. At this time the PSMA/PET scans appear only to be in Birmingham. Combined with hormone therapy, prognosis for stage 4 is very good. Remeber that even when the cancer spreads (e.g. to lymph nodes, lungs liver etc) its Still prostate cancer (not lung or liver etc). with all the powerful treaments to hold it back.

Sorry to hear of your experience Andrew, I hate to be negative about GPs but sometimes I don't think they are making good judgement calls when it comes to prostate cancer and doing the PSA test as is the case in mine and yours. I hope your journey is successful.🙏

@@fightingcancerwithpositivity Thanks so much for answering my question. I am happy to hear the good news. A friend of mine was recently diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, and I am searching for videos I can share with him. Your video was the most impressive. Yeah I found out I had PC after I got unbelievable pain in my ribs I couldn't sleep from the pain had a PSA test came back 630 and should be 2.5 so went for scans and then got told I had prostate, bone ,spine and lung cancer it normally always goes to your bones first so stage 4 Gleason 9 the Gleason score only goes to 10 ,so had chemotherapy and was put on hormone injections to stop the pain and now also on 4 hormone tablets a day I handed the chemotherapy fine but when I looked into it the hormone therapy is basically chemical castration they try to remove all your testosterone because it make it grow I'm only 53 and been with my wife for 30 years and it's the hormone therapy that is doing my head in 100% ,but I'm also taking Fenbendazole it's a dog dewormer also taking berberine ,queretin ,tumeric and CBD oil if any one has or knows anyone with cancer tell them to look up the Joe tippins protocol, the doctor beck cure and good luck to all

PSA is a great indicator for most patients, but I strongly advise insisting on a digital rectal exam (DRE) as part of prostate cancer screening.
Not all prostate cancers cause a large rise in PSA. I’m recently diagnosed advanced prostate cancer with metastases in the prostate, spine, and lymph nodes. My PSA never went over 1.1 until the cancer was found two months ago, and even then it was only at 9.7.
I am positive an annual DRE would have caught my monster long before it got out of control.
Catching prostate cancer early, while it’s still only in the prostate, is the difference between a simple surgical or radiological treatment, and being “cured“, or having an advanced prostate cancer that will never be cured and will always leave you wondering when treatments will stop and how long you have to live.
    Keep fighting Woody.
    Edited a couple of typos.

The PSA test, while a good baseline test, isn’t a very accurate test. Lots of men with a high PSA don’t have prostate cancer and some men with a low PSA do have prostate cancer. PSA can be affected by a lot of things such as how large your prostate is. My PSA has gone as high as 7.5 and I’ve had two MRIs and a biopsy. Thankfully all have been clean. This gentleman’s advice is correct, however. Get your PSA checked and get the digital exam at least annually. If you do have something, you want to catch it as early as possible because prostate cancer is usually very curable in its early stage. Best wishes to you, sir, for many more years of health.

The way I see it jack is it can't harm men to have a blood test especially if they have any symptoms. Mine was discovered when it was at 288 who knows if I could have caught it earlier if I had had the test when I first had the symptoms, I guess I'll never know.

My boyfriend has prostrate cancer. It is grade 2. His Gleason score is 7. (3+4). He is starting radiation next week. The doctor told him in the beginning when he was in the early stages that prostate cancer grows very slowly would probably go into his 90s and die before the cancer ever grew. Well, let me tell you now he’s in the intermediate stage and the cancer grew some. Don’t listen to what the doctor says when they probably think it’s not going to get bigger. Get a second second opinion.

I had a mammogram with ultrasound, two months ago and the doctor said well, it’s probably a cyst. I didn’t like the word probably. I’m going to get an MRI and biopsy.

WOW ! Doesn't say much for the medical fraternity in the U.K. at all. That NONE of the people who you saw, had the back bone to tell you it may be your prostate. After an MRI, I can tell you THEY KNEW. I'm in a similar position myself, that's how I know, except my Dr's tell me what they discover. B.T.W. did they ever offer you a blood test to check your PSI levels ???? Any competant Dr would have done that right from the get go. Also, did they take a biopsy from your prostate to indentify the type of cancer you have ? For what it's worth, IMHO, the medical fraternity that have been treating you need to shot.

You are right unfortunately, I don't like saying too much negative stuff about the NHS but I was treated very poorly at the beginning, untill they found out I have cancer. Today I try not to dwell on that and just look for the positives in my life of which there are many. The reason I make these videos is to try to prevent my own experience happening to other men. Good luck to you in your own journey with this illness.
