Loved Dying Machine, his voice has gotten stronger with each subsequent release so looking forward to this new one. A Dying Machine had a few radio friendly tracks with 'The First The Last' & 'Take You With Me' Mark is a tremendous shredder but i like how he can pull back to best serve the song & not just his impulse.
Great album along with the rest of the Tremonti albums. I never have understood the hate Creed got which keeps some from checking out Alter Bridge and Tremonti. Mark is such a great talent and he keeps proving it over and over again.
I think I saw an interview with Mark where he said he formed Tremonti so he could play some of the more metal/ shredding stuff that he loves, but didn't fit in the Creed/AB type of music.
Solid album along with all of the other Tremonti albums. Mark is such a great talent. I never have understood the hate for Creed which keeps some people from checking out Alter Bridge and Tremonti.
Mark Tremonti inspired me to pick up the guitar around the time Alter Bridge released Blackbird. His voice, his lyrics and his guitar playing have improved by lightyears since the Creed days. Marching In Time is right up there with Mastodon for my Album Of The Year pick!
Hey Pete you should do a ranking of the albums of Great White! I just watched the Cinderella ranking and saw you mentioned them but I see you don't have a ranking of their albums (or top 10 songs) yet.
Another SoT Wednesday, another band unknown to me. The review piqued my interest so listened to a track or two [no time to listen the entire album of all being reviewed today]. So this is modern metal? May need more time to understand all these genres - even the basic ones - but the excerpts played just not before commenting seem more like hard rock rather than metal but would welcome comments from anyone helping me understand that difference or how it applies here. But whatever it is, enjoyed it. Yes, the start of Thrown Further sounds a bit of what I think of as metal but the song itself comes across as hard rock. Also enjoyed the opener and closer of this album. This should be a good listen for the next yard work day which is coming soon. Once again, Pete, thanks for all these reviews today. Really looking forward to the Jethro Tull roundtable discussion of the Benefit anniversary. Just showed up in the mailbox here.
i would describe it as more hard rock leaning alternative metal. it's like how the Deftones get labeled an alternative metal band even though they don't sound like "metal"
@@rocioiribe5841 Thanks for your input. Some of this various genre/bucket-type approach is not particularly clear to me so appreciate learning more. Again, thanks.
The thing is this. Though Mark Tremonti is one of the best guitarists out there now, he doesn't try to be metal or heavy just because to make a heavy album. He himself says that he writes songwriting a lot and melody is the most important thing in a song. And he keeps aside all the crazy advanced techniques when writing songs. Because he loves to write beautiful melodies and make great songs not just 12 plain heavy metal songs. The best example is the title track of his album Dust. It's nowhere near metal but those melodies, the emotion and the atmosphere he creates is just amazing. If you want to listen some thrashier/metal songs try listening Wish You Well, So You're Afraid, Radical Change, My Last Mistake, Once Dead, Throw Them to the Lions, The Day When Legions burned and Would You Kill from his latest album.
Sorry, but Tremonti's vocals are nothing like Myles Kennedy. Are you deaf? They have totally different voices. Can you imagine Tremonti singing Calm The Fire, or Myles Kennedy singing I Wish You Well.........
I'm not saying I don't like the band but I would like to see Mark do something with musicians he has not worked with before. More established people like Jeff Scott Soto, Sammy Hagar, Dave Lombardo etc.
I've always considered Tremonti to be Mark's dumping ground for tunes that don't click with AB. The new album is probably my least favorite of his solo albums, but given how he's kinda one of the primary writers for AB's stuff, that's by no means a slight against him.
I was put off when you said Tremonti’s voice is similar to Myles Kennedy. I don’t like Alterbridge because of that voice. It’s like a whiney Axl Rose. I will give this a try though because I like Tremonti’s guitar work.
I don't feel that Mark's voice sounds anything like Myles Kennedy's voice... not at all, with regard to pitch, tone, etc. I agree that Myles voice can be a little whiny at times, although it has grown on me over the years. I wouldn't call Mark's voice as being whiny. What I will say that seems similar to me is the overall vocal presentation... such as tempo, melody lines, etc. That may have been what he was thinking about. This new album is Mark's strongest vocal performance for sure. With earlier releases, I felt his voice needed to mature a little bit. It was still good, far better than most of us could hope to be, but lacked a little power and presence... not anymore though.
Tremonti was named as the guitarist of the decade in 2019 and as the 5th greatest heavy metal guitarists of all time by Guitar World magazine. His solos and riffs are just amazing. And he's a great songwriter too.
Mark and Myles do not sound the same, Mark does lead vocals in AB as well so your lack of knowledge leads to your credibility being lost right off the bat.
I was never a fan of Creed. Didnt give Alterbridge a chance either, but I always respected Tremonti. I remember in the Creed days, i read an interview with Mark and he talked about being disappointed because the record labels didnt want him playing many guitar solos, and he is an old school metal guy and wanted to showcase his skills. So like 20 years ago I wanted to impress a girl, and I took her to see Creed because she wanted to go. Needless to say, it sucked, but Mark was playing tons of super shredding solos, because he said that he was allowed to do that live, even if they werent allowed on the records.
Try listening Alter Bridge. They are far better than Creed. Only their first album sounds like Creed but still it's an amazing album. Trust me you won't be disappointed. And Myles Kennedy also plays lead guitar in Alter Bridge. He's also a phenomenal guitarist. I'd suggest some songs: Blackbird, Broken Wings, Slip to the void, Metalingus, Cry of Achilles, Fortress, The Last Hero :)
@@darkhymnsfromthecoldnorth I know. MF4's Summergirl is awesome. And yeah I agree. IMO, Myles is the greatest rock singer currently and one of the GOATs.
A ranking of Tremonti?
Thanks for the review on Tremonti, I really enjoy this album and all the albums he’s put out to date

Nice review of the album. I haven’t heard this album yet. Past Tromonti albums have been full of killer songs. Definitely going to check it out!
This album rocks!!!
Nice I'm checking this out tonight. Mark is a great player

I don’t own anything by them.
Tremonti can never do wrong (so far).
Good album the songs are listenable there's not one song that I didn't like just good songs

Bought and listened to this today, first album I've heard from them. Pretty good stuff, heavier than AB but not as good overall IMO.
Mark Tremonti is the American John Sykes !!
Check out Ancient Days!
