ASIMO, an acronym for Advanced Step in Innovative Mobility, is a humanoid robot designed and developed by Honda. Introduced on 21 October 2000, ASIMO was designed to be a multi-functional mobile assistant. With aspirations of helping those who lack full mobility, ASIMO is frequently used in demonstrations across the world to encourage the study of science and mathematics.[3] At 130 cm (4 ft 3 in) tall and 48 kg (106 lb), ASIMO was designed to operate in real-world environments, with the ability to walk or run on two feet at speeds of up to 6 kilometres per hour (3.7 mph). It kind of blows my mind how this appears to be able to do more advanced and realistic movements than Tesla a decade later.
Japan is far more advanced than USA, The main issue is birth rate is too low and English, so no immigration. and population is 3 times less than USA and 4 times less than young population, Still they are more advanced and controls 80% of the entire world's robot industry. Boston Dynamics also owned by Japan!
All of that a decade ago, yet no one called Honda a robotics company.

Asimo is amazing really. I am trying to build a full size like this. Obviously not as advanced, but certainly a lot cheaper!!

もはや、ホンダはアシモのためにやってるって感じだよね。昭和60年からの自立歩行研究の集大成、初期は遅かったが、約一年で克服してる。

I wonder how much of its movements are preprogramming. What it matters most is the ability of self decision.

+Yucel Inanogullari What they're really showcasing here is the joint movements (which are amazingly fluid compared to other robots), and not its AI. Developing AI is a much more complex and tedious process that will take much longer to develop fully, and Asimo needs very little autonomy as its main purpose is serving people in their homes, which it is very capable of doing in its current state. For clarification, everything this robot does is pre-programmed. You can basically program a robot in one of four ways; you start by giving it a task, and program it to do that task at a random time, a set time, after a planned stimulus, or after an unplanned stimulus. So you can make its ability to respond to stimuli very advanced, but for it to have true self-decision is way out of our understanding as of right now.
+Yucel Inanogullari This is a top down robot (Human "teaches" machine). Like a car or a computer (no own intelligence).
"Of course it can percept and correct" but thats no real AI which will probably be developed and is a bit scary in my opinion.

Honda officially announced that they completely stop developing Asimo. The technology in Asimo cannot be developed anymore that's the reason
