- In this woodturning project I transform a firewood burl into a beautiful woodturning bowl, and filling the voids by resin casting.
Using the precision and skill of a wood turning lathe, I have created a stunning bowl infused with epoxy resin and pre-cured red, blue and orange pigments to create a stunning effect.

Thanks very much 😊
Loved it will 👍👍 would be handy though if you don’t mind me saying if you put captions up as you go to say what your sealing wood with etc. and measurements also ! Just a thought mate ! And did you put a makers mark in the bottom after drilling? But have to say love it !😉
Cheers pal, appreciate the comment. As for the measurements, you mean resin? Just checking. Good idea for the captions, appreciate the feedback mate and thanks for watching. 👍
@@tendring_woodturning yeah the resin measurements! And out of interest what did you use to seal the wood with before you did the pour?
@@stevejeremiah8044 yeah ok, got ya! I alsways seal with thinned down (50%) cellulose thinners pal. 😊👍
Stunning 😍
Thanks very much and thanks for watching. 😊
Confused, hoping someone can explain.
I thought the first step after sanding was abrasive paste.
BEFORE all other finishes, not after??
Trying to learn here.... so any ideas would be great
Need to watch it back to remember pal, normally straight after sanding I’d shove a coat of sanding sealer on, and then sand a bit more once it’s dried. Let me know in the video where you got confused and I’ll explain more if the above doesn’t work 😊👍
@@tendring_woodturning I have no experience with abrasive paste and woodworking but when I have read up on it, it always says to apply the paste after sanding and before finishes....
Then I watch you use it as a final buffing step....
Obviously, there is more to abrasive paste than I am aware of.
Is it like a rubbing compound similar to jeweler's rouge?
Oh ok now I understand your confusion so let me explain. Abrasive paste is woodturning gold, and you’re right, normally you would apply it after sanding and before putting a finish on like wax. It has a ton of thermal uses though. I decided to clear lacquer and you can’t do that on top of abrasive paste because of the oil content. So in this project I sanded to 800, put several coats of lacquer on it. Then I used abrasive paste, as it evens out the lacquer. Hope that helps pal 👍
Beautiful resin work, how do you get the colors to separate so well?
Thanks very much. I pre cured the resin so it remains separated. Difficult to give you an exact time as it depends on ambient temperature, time, resin type and manufacturer. If I was guessing though I’d say about 40 minutes all in all. Thanks for the comment 😊
@@tendring_woodturning makes sense thanks very much.
@@marwill329 anytime. 😊
It’s more of a feel thing. After about 40 minutes the resin will start to firm up and you’ll feel resistance when stirring, that’s the time to pour it and get it into the pressure pot. 😊
My drunk ass saw this on Thanksgiving and wondered how this guy is going to lathe a turkey.
Hehehehe brilliant. Thanks for the comment, a pint of water and 2 pain killers before you go to bed pal. Have a great thanksgiving 😊👍
