I saw this episode of the Beat on LWT at the time (14 years old), but I regret that I never saw this Pulp live. The first time I finally got to see them was the next year, headlining at Glastonbury (to everyone's surprise), at which point they spontaneously jumped up a league. This Pulp retains the rough edges of a club band, and I like it a lot, today and then. Most britpop was shit, but Pulp were doing it before it had a name, and before major labels started snapping up any twat in a Fred Perry. This lot and Suede and Modern Life is Rubbish and that's not a bad snapshot for Brtipop before it was Britpop.
RIP Steve Mackey 11/10/1966 - 03/02/2023 We lost one of the best! :(
jarvis’ outfits always mesmerise me, he is an enchantingly attractive individual
Hottest human to ever live
90s britpop was the pinnacle.

This is pure magic thank you for posting!! ❤
Cheers for this - I had it on VHS back in the day. If I remember it was broadcast with Sultans of Ping FC effectively in support.
Yes, he was rather rough on himself with that harmonica/Iggy impression

Steve, is there any chance you have The Poppies on the Beat at the Astoria?!
No, sorry.
Would love to see this: I remember they had some live Phoenix footage on there but probably from later, 1993/4
