      I mean everything worthwhile has already been invented by now. All niches are occupied. And i doubt that John could create something really interesting. Otherwise he would not waste his valuable time on TH-cam. But maybe he will take leave from TH-cam too. He is so young and soo naive... But in any case, I wish him good luck!

    I admire how wise and mature you are for your age.
    I spent the 18-23 y/o years learning a trade and discovering who I was - THEN I went back into education to study Economics. I'm 25 now and heading into my 2nd year.
    I feel that higher education is very important (ideally we could all pursue it once we know what interests us), but discovering who you are, what makes you happy, and where you want to be in the future are best learned from general life experience outside of education. One could say; If you have never worked a full time job with bills/rent to pay, can you really truly understand what will make you happy in the future?
    Hindsight is a wonderful thing: I can kick myself for the regrets I have about not pursuing a degree sooner, but ultimately, I would not change how things have played out for me, as I, like everybody, needed to explore my options and my identity before I chose a route to go down. It is precisely this experience that enables me to appreciate academia (especially economics) that much more. It is one thing to be armed with knowledge and skills, however, if you don't understand how you wish to apply them int he world, you may end up feeling unfulfilled - everybody realises this at some point.
    Well done fella, keep growing. Your 'rush' to an unknown end has afforded you the opportunity to enjoy the moment to it's fullest, which is where true happiness lies, from my experience. :)

    • @thejohnfish
      @thejohnfish  5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Thank you so much for this. I love hearing the stories of people who went through atypical paths in their educational experience and definitely agree with you that there's a lot to learn from the real world before entering college. There are definite downsides too (especially socially), but hey--no difficult decision is without tradeoffs. Best of luck in the rest of your degree, thanks again for your comment!

    It is taking leadership to be very dynamic for what the life needs and that way for example taking a year of from school-routine may allow totally different algorithm for how to compile life together. It is very awesome to be a master of ones life by seeing what different things is possible to build from ones life, and what kind of different life-building-blocks there are is deeply interesting to search and pursues. Keep up the energy, John!

    Hey John, just after watching a few minutes of the video I felt I had to pass on this wisdom (my personal experience) to you!!😁 so I just finished my first year of computer science at university in London (being from London it was the most viable option) and gradually throughout the year I discovered that there was so much more that I wanted to do- I have a background in chemistry, biology, geography and physics having studied it at A-LEVEL (exams you take to get into uni in the UK) so I had a keen interest in academic science before choosing compsci. As I already had this pre exposure I was really missing the more academic subjects as opposed to the vocational study of compsci, and as with UK Unis you usually have to focus solely on that one subject you chose for the degree. Anyway now on summer break I re-applied to start again as a freshman at a different uni to study Physical Geography. So, the whole point of this message was to say I completely think,if you have interests that lie in something you find interesting/inspiring etc FOLLOWWW ITTTTTT

My senior year, I started to realize that accounting wasn't for me and I started getting into web development / computer programming. Unlike you though, I was stupid and only realized all this three months prior into getting my BS in accounting lol. When someone that cares so much for worldly ambitions such as study hard go to a good school make money finally realizes it isn’t going to make you happy and those can be other people’s goals not your own the addiction of self improvement can lead to discontentment and later depression

    this video came at the PERFECT time. i’m about to go to university and i relate to the feeling of “the rush.” first it was rushing to go to graduate and go to college, and now that college is starting soon i want to rush and graduate from there so i can do what i want.
    but watching this has enforced the importance of pacing and taking breaks, and enjoying the moment and having patience. great content as always, john! i’m excited to see what you do in the future. :)

    From experience (not mine but from a lot of people i know): For a year = Forever
    EDIT: It's mostly because in that year you will realize that you don't actually need college at all, and possibly even find a job in that time.

    • @milly4543
      @milly4543 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience it's quite the opposite. More than half the people I know that went to uni did some sort of gap year or took a break. We're all old enough to know you don't need uni for A job but we also know that we need uni for the type of job we want. So yeah, I think a gap year is a great idea! It won't stop anyone that really wants to go to uni and for those that don't, well, it'll save them the time and money :)

    John, you have my upmost respect. The courage you have to do this for the pursuit of not just academic, but also self growth, has truly amplified my admiration of you.
    Because of you I have started to learn coding ; inevitably it is only the basic languages at this stage, but the knowledge compounds. I have also started my own channel, in part, because of you !
    I wish you the very best. What a great role model you are John ! Thanks for enhancing the productivity within my life.
