I retired 3 years ago from full time work at age 53. I thought people would be happy for me or would want to know how I did it but it was the total opposite. I do work 2 days a week to keep myself busy but I don't tell people that, so they just assume my job is full time. I sold my car so people think I don't have money. I live downtown is a walkable neighbourhood so a car is not needed. I don't dress like I'm homeless but I don't overdress either. I want to be rich but not famous.
Hey just subscribed, great video yesterday with you and Mike. I'm retiring in Dumaguete in February, moving from Orlando Florida. Just retired from the medical field 45yrs and I'm ready to relax.
They are smart - they don't want anyone bugging them wanting to borrow money from them. They also know the kind of unwanted attention they will get in the Philippines as well.
Those who focus on 'image' and/or status do so at the detriment of actual wealth. They are also indicating they are wealthy and wonder why people are coming to them for loans, business ideas and other unwanted attention they'd rather not deal with. If you think you're wealthy or actually are wealthy, it's always best to not show it off or comment on it and It could be perceived as envy. "Perception is reality.". Maybe they are attention seekers with inner insecurities. Image is nothing more than a facade. A facade is like putting lipstick on a pig.
Nothing here to disagree with. Your observations are spot-on. As an expat in Thailand, I get some ridiculous assumptions about my income, both high and low. Best to keep them guessing.
To be successful, you have to hone and sharpen an edge, but if everybody knows what that edge is, it's easily countered. I used to post trades on reddit, but then realized some of them were trades for low volume contracts. I wouldn't be surprised if a troll wrecked a few of those trades. That said with facial recognition and a cell phone, it's basically tough to stay underground, especially with a social credit system like in China. Good video, brother.
Just being a foreigner with a young lady tells the locals you have money, or should I say they automatically think you do. Buying property and building a home puts a bigger target on your back. Having a TH-cam channel is a red flag because they know the vloggers make a good monthly income It's just a well-known fact the locals think all foreigners are rich. This is why I traveled with many friends and locals on my visit until I learn the ropes, its much safer
Just watched your new apartment video. That's the only thing that I'm not looking forward to is the apartment hunt. Going to Airbnb it and go from there.
Hey Alex! I've got the musical great idea of the millennium! Since "Robchella" appears so much in the background, we can start a music festival in Dumaguete based on Coachella and make billions overnight🤣 If that were actually a great idea, I'm sure the Kpop industry wo: uld be focusing on hosting concerts in Dumaguete rather than the SM Mall of Asia. Regarding the friend who drove a Honda Accord: he indirectly was providing jobs to people in Ohio. My only question today is this: how do you impress Filipinas if you are constantly dressing down? Keep up the great work, Alex!
Thanks so much Chris! Great question, I think dressing sharp but not over the top is the way to go when dating. It's possible to opt for low to mid-range shirts that still look nice as opposed to the highest of the high end.
Rich and unknown is an ideal situation. If you are not relying on fame to create income (investments), public scandal has no effect on your financials. If your a nobody, you dont have a name to protect .😊
"If you are not relying on fame to create income (investments), public scandal has no effect on your financials." - partially wrong. If you understand that you have to use the money gained through fame to diversify and become less fragile to special events (like the end of your fame, for whatever reason), you'll be fine.
@ForgottenKnight1 any source of income is not immune to all events. If fame is where a portion of your income comes from, any bad/good publicity can make it go a certain direction. Bad pub can sometimes be good 2 . I think you will agree that there are a lot of famous and rich individuals who have NO skills. Once they lose fame....
@@breyrey7612 plenty of wealthy people have LLC’s to keep their investments private, such as the ownership of rental properties. Most people won’t move simply because the owner isn’t a perfect person, many renters have never even met the owner of their rental home.
It is so true.....when i had money i never wanted to spend money, i always bought a used vehicle. Now that i am poor and broke i want to buy the new car, i want the nice clothes etc.
If you want to feel super rich, just be in the Philippines. If locals or casual acquaintance foreigners pry about my finances I honestly reply that I do whatever I want to do and go wherever I want to go. One of the best home improvements I have seen was with a short term rental in the general population side of Puerto Morelos the Yucatan peninsula Mexico. After outside the front door was about a 3 meter patio, after that was a tall lockable wrought iron fence and gate, it discouraged vendors selling things you did not want and people with phony wore out pharmacy scrips wanting people to finance it, same as the Philippines.
Good points Alex, also if someone makes $30,000. U.S. yearly, that puts them in the top five percent of earners in the world, just to add to your comparisons and perspective if you don't mind.

Congrats! I imagine your success was earned through a lot of hard work. It must have been difficult to get a cold reception.

Being anonymous is by far the best course to take in life, regardless of one's wealth or lack of wealth. It simply eliminates many potential issues.
Agreed :)
nice to have a Philippines-based vlogger whos able to talk about more than the same-o girls, rentals, etc
I appreciate that.

Welcome! You'll love Dumaguete.

The "Grey Man strategy" is the best "Life strategy".....it gives you time freedom
Definitely!

Johnny Carson used to vacation in France where he was just another American man.
I never knew that! That makes perfect sense. Thank you for sharing Mike.
They just want To live their life.
Very true!

Thank you fazbell, I'm happy to add nuance to this discussion. Your money is your business, not ours as the general public.
Because there's nothing to be said. Success is it's own reward and doesn't need affirmation.
Very true
I subscribe to your channel yesterday while you were " Live" with Mike
Thanks so much Richard :)

Good luck with the apartment search!
If ignorance is bliss, then we'd all be blissed out.

I wear the same clothes every day, but I am not wealthy. I just figured I am the guy with no fashion sense. 8)
Hahaha thank you Anthony
In other words, only the empty cans in the Philippines have been making a lot of noise.
Haha

Wow, that makes sense

Many stay quiet because many are not egotistical. 😂They are also not attention whores.
Great points!
Why can’t we just let people do them? If you don’t do it, that’s great! Why is that everyone wants people to be like them?
That's a great question!=

Vast majority makes how much ? ( 'on the planet' ) Not sure "how much" that actually is ? Seems unlikely an accurate amount can be determined ?
