Yeah, it's a beautiful thing, and clearly the feeling was mutual. Romita was so proud of JR. Also if you watch Comics Historians' interview with Joe Kubert, it's the same thing. He is absolutely bursting with pride over Adam and Andy.
Marvel, not Stan, "pocketed" the lion's share of Spider-Man profits. MJ was created by Stan and Ditko. Romita just drew the most iconic and beautiful version of her (and all the Spidey cast).
@GodLovesComics it still breaks my heart that Stan had so much power over artists and constantly over stated his contribution. You look like you have a pretty interesting channel btw. I've just subscribed.
@@anti-duhringbattalion4801 Thanks so much. Actually, sadly I will probably have to delete content like this because YT won't monetize me as others have abused viral content they steal from TikTok. I post a lot of original material, but also videos like this for historical purposes. As regards Stan, I think the narrative has spun wildly out of control largely because of the Kirby cultists who believe the only way to further glorify The King is by diminishing and attacking Stan's contributions and Stan himself. I could go on at length (and have) about the whole issue and so many facts that debunk the narrative. I'll just say that Stan was still an employee just like Jack. His supposed power over the artists was the result of having the responsibilities of an Editor-in-Chief over a line that was exploding in popularity largely because of Stan's decisions and tireless promotion. Of course Marvel couldn't happen without Kirby and Ditko. But no one else ever utilized their talents or promoted them the way Stan did. DC had all the money but they never elevated Kirby to the status of comics greatest artist. I've said it a million times but the truth of the matter is that nothing Kirby ever did solo at DC or any other publisher approached his work with Stan. I don' think a single 4th World book lasted a full year. When Kirby begged to come back to Marvel and write/edit/draw his books--Eternals, Black Panther, Machine Man, Devil Dinosaur--all of those titles failed as well. Much like the 4th World they could have spectacular art, incredible concepts, but aloof, humorless characters, dull old-fashioned dialogue, and typically wonky stories. But the Kirby cult will forever insist that Stan had little or nothing to do with the massive success of the Marvel Age.
Rest in peace, John. You were one of the best.
He was so proud of JRJR it was beautiful to see.
imagine loving your dad this much

Wow what a treasure this video is. Sheer joy!
A shame that Stan is the man who pocketed most of the financial rewards that these guys created.

These men were true comic book artists.
